Default Halo TV Show (Paramount +)

I never thought I'd see the day but they're making a Halo TV series. The books and games actually do have some decent lore and storylines, so it'd be pretty exciting if they do a good job of it.

Guess we'll see how the Master Chef ends up doing. I get the feeling the TV show will be rated E for PC (Cortana looks a bit old?? for some reason) but I'm definitely going to give it a watch.

Episode 1 looks good, action packed with good visuals, but just a tiny midget of storyline. Eagerly waiting for next episode.

It was definitely pretty decent, not as good a plot as the books or games but I guess it's not easy to hop right into the story without some introduction.

    Hopefully it gets even better.

I have only a very basic knowledge of Halo as I am not a big fan of FPS games or have read the book - but I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode. Great visuals as JD says. Story line? Too early to tell, but the perfect soldier having a conscience (early memories?) all of sudden does have some promise.

Same as. Never played the game but the first episode had promise, strong Robocop vibes. Would benefit from being a bit more gritty though.

@Sir Halie/Gig: Not playing the game is probably a good thing for you guys.
I loved the 2nd episode. I have some gripes but I can understand the showmakers taking some liberties and moulding their own show. Being an FPS game, Master Chief is most mute type zero talk kinda guy but I love him in the TV show, how else it can be better portrayed? I asked myself. Plus a lot of things, like his height in lore is 6'10" and lot other things in other matters but meh, I was hooked for every second.

And dammit I want to binge it. But won't be possible.

Aye. EP-2 had a bit more grit, brutal executions and mild nudity.

Ish - ''Plus a lot of things, like his height in lore is 6'10"
Pablo Schreiber is 6.4.' Close enough no?. ..

He's a pretty decent actor, good in 'Den of Thieves/13 Hours/The Wire..

Couple of details I liked. They copied the sound effects for external shots of space craft from 'Battle Star Galactica.' Nice touch.
The music in the background (on the meteor city) is heavily 'influenced' by John Carpenter. I couldn't pin it down, maybe Escape from New York, or Assault on Precinct 13..

Yes. The height difference is also very noticeable between Master Chief and Soren.

The scenry of Asteroid belt and the whole environment was awesome.

This show is hard to rate. Some of the FX/what they're doing action-wise looks fantastic for a series while other parts look legitimately horrible. Also, I was never crazy into Halo story-wise or the expanded lore beyond a cursory knowledge but some of the writing decisions are weird. Like, really ing weird. To the point where you could tell the same story but just slightly adjust the visuals and change the names and it wouldn't really be remotely identifiable a being based on the Halo universe. I get it's a different timeline, etc. but going so hard on deconstructing the universe and leaning way too into the books' "the UNSC isn't exactly perfect either" angle to the point they feel like mustache twirling villains while the religious fanatic genocidal dictatorship looks better in comparison, doesn't sit entirely right with me so far.

Also, the *spoiler* human already serving the prophets makes things very muddled in terms of motivations and timeline.

Here's my one gripe with this show, so far:

    Why did Masterchief ...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
had to take off his helmet? Do we really need to see his face?
I thought the whole deal of the character was that he was mysterious.
You didn't know what was behind that visor of his.
    That was the whole appeal.

    So why reveal his face?

I wonder if the show was mostly made and planned before Mandalorian.

We know that Hollywood loves to never let Hero's wear helmets, (face must always be shown), at least until The Mandalorian.

Dredd - Karl Urban sticks to the origin and never takes off the helmet.

Did my eyes deceive me, or did the next 3 episodes go up yesterday?.
I have a feeling the show hasn't got as much attention as they would have hoped.

It being written before Mandalorian would also make sense given the pilot being about a helmeted warrior saving a child from a fascist regime. I feel that this plot hook, even if it isn’t a massive part of the show going forward, would have maybe been changed in response to Mandalorian unless the first season was already mostly written like 2 years ago. Just because that’s how Hollywood is.

@Lord of the Drunk Penguin: Love the actor but the face reveal could've waited for a little longer like Mando, I agree. But I suppose they wanted to show the effect of touching that artifact in the cave, how he felt, better expressed with facial confusion etc, I suppose.

@Sir Halie: Karl Urban Rocks. I love him since the DOOM movie he did with Rock. And I don't see any new episodes...maybe they're region restricted? And yeah that's the thing with expensive shows, like Wheel of Time, this is heavy budget show as well.
