Only if you are concerned with the ethics.

The philossophers stone has nothing to do with philossophy, it doesnt exist in fact. It doenst present any more phillosophical challenge then greed and immortality usually do anyway .How can a sorcerer call his work philosophy? He isn't contemplating the complexities of life. He's reanimating corpses into zombies...
Other then killing off some countries not really. I find it depressing as well.Is there any way of reducing the load times in the late era? Seriously... It's downright depressing. And I have a powerful computer.
@ Kanaric, just dont give them open borders if it annoys you.
In Civ 4 the AI did the same thing, placing cities within my borders to snap up resources. Thats why i never gave them open borders until id placed all the cities id wanted.
not giving them open borders doesn't work since there are usually gaps in my borders in the game period when they typically do this.
You just need to bombard their positions with catapults/artillery/crossbowmen/archers/etc., if they have more advanced units. I beated the Germans by fighting in an area, where they had to spent two turns in my line of sight before being able to attack my troops. Also had some ships (simple caravels) next to a path they would have to approach from before reaching my land troops. It seems that this game went overboard with appeasing the "spearmen kill tanks" whiners. Now its like if they are one tech ahead of you nothing can be done to defend yourselves. Early game you can rely on turtling and archers to maybe protect you but if you just get gunpowder and they have riflemen through the AIs non stop infinite goldtery and research pacts (civ 4 and earlier research trading was superior to this, balanced everyone) you have mass conquests by one of two of the AIs and when they declare war on me its pretty much /quit regardless of my army size since i have to trade 3 units per every one of theirs at that point.
^Snuggans: Do you mean Pact of Cooperation? I don't recall a deal called trade agreements. The AI never seems interested in accepting any deals proposed by the player, so I always have to wait for them to make the offers.
Ah, that!not trade agreement, i fixed my post to say research agreement.
becomes available after researching philosophy, or if one of the other civs researches it and offers you one.
both of the civs pay an equal amount of gold (usually 600-900) and after 90 turns or so, both of you get a new technology, although they are usually not the same tech, it depends on what you have already researched.
Steam and its forced updating policy![]()
Yes, but that would affect all the games and make me unable to play MP in games like Warband. You can turn that off you know![]()

God dammit Montezuma and Napoleon, stop building cities in every unoccupied tile inside my territory. THERE'S NO POINT IN HAVING CITIES WITH 3 LAND TILES AND NO LUXURY RESOURCES SURROUNDED BY MY ALL POWERFUL EMPIRE!
As i've seen in my last game this is the opposite for me.They came by the sea. Since the latest patch, they actually know how to handle their navy now. And maybe I sold them open borders for 50 gold, I don't remember . It's funny to see the AI strategies to create more lebensraum: they start building settlements in weird places, try to attack city-states but god forbids that they start attacking each other.
I swear the game cheats at times.
In my last game as Russia, I had just reached the classical age, and was starting to train spearmen when China came knocking with riflemen.
%$@^$#% Riflemen. And I'm playing on Prince difficulty, and this is my fifth game, it's not like I don't know how to play.
this, this is stupid.
the hell? i'm having a hard time believing you.
It is a bug & perhaps it is already fixed. China was very lucky because it got its scout/warrior upgraded to riflemen with the help of ancient ruins which upgrade her units to an advanced one.I swear the game cheats at times.
