Yes, it was tried.
It was a attempt to make elephants useful, it didn't work.

CA says this Turks unite but only using Timurids and Gaznes (moslem Turk empire) so Seljuk and Ottoman Turks arent using elephant and Elephant mounted cannon zuhaha big mistake

i dont know about cannons but siege weapons like scorpians were mounted on elephants and they were pretty efective

its the incendiary pigs and wardogs all over again, if something novel was used but once in history you can be sure CA will plunk it in the game as a selling point (not complaining, just stating a fact). I'll play with it for a bit but when a mod comes along I'll take them out, I needs my historical realism.

You are the supreme ruler of the country. If you want an army full of elephants with cannons, then you should get one. I'm glad CA have add these rarer units so sometimes we can create a bit crazy armies.

We've seen this picture a while ago but hey, the unit looks that good why not discuss it.

I love the textures, the elephants look much more lifelike with the wrinkles.

EDIT - I'm all for having Cannon elephants in the game, I love the experimental units that were used in history whether they failed or not and I am glad they only put a small culverin type cannon on top of the elephant, a bombard would be pushing it even for me. I don't know about the missile elephants though, I'm not really for units that never existed. (Who knows, they might have been but it seems a little ridiculous to mount a cannon on an elephant let alone an entire rocket launcher :x)

I'm hoping the elephants go berserk after the first or at least second shot though, I can't see them running around with a cannon firing constantly.

i think it adds nice variety.

i mean, the whole deal with this game is to provide realism while still allowing the player to 'shape' history and have fun. this unit exemplifies both! :tooth:

Turks and Timurids for sure. Egyptians might have them too, not too sure about the Moors.

Apparently there is evidence at the Royal Armoury that this was indeed tried.
