Collaborative Chaos Project

Hi, I had a hard disk meltdown recently. I thought I'd lost everything... And this was shortly after accepting a commission last week. (DW Gig, saved your sig) This meant that a majority of my files got corrupted. I later managed to save most of them. But I still have this commission. I thought, why not make a collage out of the wrecked files. Get something good out of the misery! Later I thought, why not a Collaborative college?

Then I thought this could be a great project for new aspiring artists and practised ones. Or a great way for someone to dip a toe into making and completing a project here on site that en't too big. Maybe this could lead to someone giving a hand on a mod or something else.

So please:



Once you've chosen a number, we can find some images for your collage.

If you want, you can talk with those that have the numbers adjacent to you.

I'll try to make sure each participant get a unique set of corrupted files.

There's room for eight, and we can adjust either way as needed.

Below, you can see examples of what we have to work with.


If we are eight, 6000 pixels tall and 7500 wide are the outer limits.

Given that the pics will have all different sizes is this going to be two dimensional tetris or can the measurements be adjusted to a certain degree in the collage?

It sounds like fun, Narf! And starting in about a week, I will suddenly have time on my hands again, and I'm planning on getting back into all sorts of arts projects. So I'd be happy to join! Put me in box 4, next to Akar. I want to make sure that the quality of my work makes his look childish by comparison, and that is best achieved by being neighbors

Hahaha, Greaaaat! Yeah, you can do whatever you want with the different sets of corrupted files you get. Cut them, overlay them, make them black and white or turn them around, ect ect ect. These are just the "material" you have to do so with. I'll update the board with your choices! I am busy, but I'll start passing around the corrupted sets of images this weekend.

Can that kind of a thing even happen because of a hard disk malfunction? The only time I have seen files getting messed up in a comparable manner was a virus in an organization's tabletop computer. As fun as the art project looks, I am not sure if that issue should be spread further instead of contained unless we know the root cause.

I was going to sit this one out, but Narf gave me an offer that I cannot refuse. Having become quite attached to my kneecaps, I pick number 1, as my simplistic sense of aesthetics probably does its best service in the outer rim of the artwork.

It's something that happened when I tried to backup my harddrives onto an extern, as I got new PC recently.

Before we leave, my type of game: base building and exploration. This being one without direct AI competition, still fairly challenging because of complexity, shades of ANNO in it.

It's something that happened when I tried to backup my harddrives onto an extern, as I got new PC recently.

Then the system hard drive drive must have been truly on it's way out (I\O errors) if it wasn't a video issue. Personally I use a daily\automatic mirroring of my working files\directories onto external drives together with a monthly system image creation once a month for system recovery purposes. Older versions of the mirrored files will be on the image so they are not totally lost - unless they weren't created yet at that point.
Certainly safes me oodles of time whenever I migrate my machine or when I did stuff that I really wasn't supposed to do. Corrupting hard\software issue are way less frequent than that

Heyo, Narf! Since I'm doing square 4, I'll take the files under link 4. That way my little ol' brain won't mix anything up Please don't kill the link quite yet though, as I need to download the things still, and will want to double (and triple) check that I have them alright before you take down the link. I'm excited to get started though, and since I'm handing in my thesis draft this coming week, I should be able to get started sometime very soon!

I confirm that I have received my package (number 1). Oh boy how corrupt they look. This is going to take some creative thinking; storytelling thinking even.

Are you serious that there are no size requirements or anything that might help you piece together the final product?

Each square can support a 6000 pixels tall and 7500 wide area, so youve got plenty space to work with. if filled its best if that aspect is kept.

Hej Gigantus, as I understood it you were rather new with graphics. If you want, you can remote control my pc to use my photoshop, so we both have control of mouse, this way I can guide and explain over discord and show you different icons live until your in "in the zone" have an idea, know how to execute it, and is confident you can get there.
