I'm fine with changes to the book, I was also fine with 3 movies that used the appendices. My point is that PJ botched it, and that to me is a bigger sin than botching something like transformers or Teenage mutant ninja turtles, which were average cartoons geared at selling toys.

I'm in total agreement with Bercor about the action. It's bad, boring, silly, tensionless and belongs on an amusement park 3D ride. I know it's harsh but it's how I feel. The hobbit movies are not without their good points, but as a whole I feel they completely missed the mark.

Yes, the hole story is fine. It is once they get out of the Hobbit hole that things get ugly.

Anyway, it's not a (w)hole story, it's a story hole.

I wouldn't say Titanic had a huge influence on popular culture or cinema. It was a film which was popular at the time, made quite a lot of money and seems to have been forgotten about afterwards. I might have missed something, but I certainly haven't seen people going ecstatic over it to this day, or lauding it as a classic.

You could make a case for Avatar influencing the modern advent of 3d movies, but I suppose they would have become a thing sooner or later. Both of them however while competently directed, were very trite (unless you'd like to claim that Avatar's story was groundbreaking and revolutionary).

Well, Titanic was quite revolutionary with regards to the effort put into rebuilding a full-scale model. And it was so successful mostly because of those crazy chicks that were into DiCaprio.
Avatar got Academy Awards only for the 3D and CGI stuff, even Titanic didn't get that many 'imporant' awards (costume and best original song are kinda...)
