I played the mod and I really liked it. The units are very cool. The music is awesome. Just a lil suggestion: an icon for the shortcut. I also noticed the mod is very demanding in terms of hardware. I downloaded the sprites pack posted in another thread and it improved performance. Now I can play normally with no lag.

Glad you guys like the mod - I'm trying to make it very special in terms of ambiental feeling and hope my building descriptions will bring that ambient to the player.

Three questions:
- I found a few AOR units in the export_descr_unit.txt that don't seem to be buildable. I used the create_unit cheat to check and they work. I'm talking about Latini, Volsci, Aurunci and Rutuli units. Is it supposed to be that way?
- In models_unit there are cas files for units that don't seem to exist - like the Hastati/Principes/Triarii Hernici and many others.
- Are any additional provinces for Corsica and Sardinia planned?

They are buildable! I suppose you were playing as Romani right?
Here is the sample of the code:

Romani controlling their area train them in the proper Roman military fashion which means they train proper Roman soldiers from them. ^ Thanks for that, yeah, I haven't got to the point of conquering those areas with any of the other factions. I had read a bit about how the Romani conquered or annihillated those people and suspected that they would train their troops in typically Roman fashion. But then I saw those units in the file, and wasn't sure what to make of them.

BTW, any idea why the Romans basically exterminated the Aequi and the Aurunci? I know they were a bit of a pain (especially the Aequi), but then so were so many other peoples of Italy, and the Romans were at least slightly kinder to most, if not all of them.

I must admit I lack a lot of the history (my humble opinion) of our mod's area and period - I haven't spotted anywhere that they were totally erased. I thought the continued to live on as their name lived on for a long time to. Where did you read they were exterminated? As the consuls were not there to direct the attack, there was no check upon the carnage which ensued, and the nation of the Ausonians (Aurunci) was exterminated, just as if they had been engaged in an internecine war, though there was no certain proof of their having revolted.

Within a fortnight they had stormed and captured thirty-one walled towns. Most of these were sacked and burnt, and the nation of the Aequi was almost exterminated.

The destruction of the Aurunci occurs in 314. A new Roman tribe, the Teretina is established on Aurunci territory in 299 (Livy 10.9.14).
The subjugation of the Aequi occurs in 304 and the following year a colonia Latina (Latin colony) is founded on Aequian territory at Alba Fucens (Livy 10.1.1). A new Roman tribe, the Aniensis is subsequently created in 299 (Livy 10.9.14) with a second colonia Latina founded at Carseoli in 298 (Livy 10.3.2).

In my view it is more likely that the regular harshness of Roman war-methods sprang from an unusually pronounced willingness to use violence on alien peoples...Later Roman sources naturally tended to soften the historical record (Livy can be shown to have done so on several occasions, and presumably did so on many others).

I'm not sure Livy's testimony is entirely reliable regarding the reasons for the extermination of the Aurunci. The absence of the consuls might explain the killing spree of the legionaires but there is a faint whiff of apologia about Livy's writing.
The reasons for the near extermination of the Aequi appear to come over as two fold. Firstly, the settling of old scores:
From that quarter the Roman arms were turned against their old enemies the Aequi. For many years this nation had remained quiet, disguising their real sentiments under a peaceable attitude

and secondly to serve as a terrifying example to other potential enemies:
A triumph was celebrated over them (i.e. the Aequi), and warned by their example the Marrucini, the Marsi, the Paeligni, and the Feretrani sent spokesmen to Rome to sue for peace and friendship

Oh great, thanx for that info - I have to find the time to read more of the resources! Bucellarii, you should have been historical adviser for PI. Are you generally very well familiarized with the history of the time our mod tries to depict?
I wouldn't claim to possess any specialist knowledge. However I do enjoy reading both primary and secondary source material for the period.

Oh I'm flattered to have you interested on our mod bucellarii! Ha, now you made me remember when I joined the PI team - I came home from a party, drunk as hell. I visited the PI page and saw no new posts so I was "ing" why there is no progress and that such a brilliant mod is not allowed to die out. When I woke up in the morning I didn't know what I was writing, visited the forum and saw what I wrote with the answer from SigniferOne or Luciano B (don't remember exactly) that I should join the team and help on the PI. I had absolutely no modding knlowledge, barely understood what mods were and was so excited and scarred at the same time... I managed to find the bug that was puzzling the team (Faction descriptions not showing in the game) and so my story begun as a PI team auxillary soldier at first. I was so happy, men those were times!

Dunno how much progress he made from the last time we heard eachother so I don't exactly know what faction remain to be done in edu. In worst case (Aper not made any progress) this are factions that need to be done:
- Lucani, Frentani, Samnites, Falisci, Etrusci, Syracusae, Italiotae, Graeci, Poeni, Veneti, Rhaeti, Galli.
I made a nice progress from my behald on the edu - each of us is progressing from other side of the edu. When we meet in the middle...CELEBRATION!!! He he
I will also include proper building descriptions in next patch with some fixes and I will add you as a contributor. Sorry in the first place for not doing so at the release!
