Sports Arena

Do you think we could use a sports subforum?

It seems many people here like sports. Perhaps we could put a subforum like Ethos into the Thema Devia, named Sports Arena, to talk about different sports, or whatever it is, as long as it has to do with sports. Just a suggestion.

You know, personally, I preferred back in the day when the only subforum was the Mudpit. If it's General Discussion you should be able to talk about anything, right? It's not a bad idea, but is it completely necessary to make yet another subforum for a topic we can just as easily discuss in TM?

Besides, I hate sports!

It would be good to be centralised, but one more subforum cannot hurt. It sucks to have to dig up threads based on sports. If this one is introduced, then I think we can say we don't need any more subforums. Sports has always been a part of the world, can it should be represented as such.

Hmm, I'm not entirly convinced that there is enough intrest among us for this.

Apparently, members don't view this area much, so perhaps you might be able to gain permission from a moderator to set up a poll about the matter in the Thema Devia.

I'll add one here.

Where will it end? Within the new sports sub-forum, hockey fans will grow tired of wading through soccer, baseball, basketball, football, racing, etc. threads, and then will want the Sports sub-forum divided up into sub-forums for each individual sport.

We're approaching a point where the Thema Devia is going to be a sorting point for posts. Mods will find their time consumed by organizing which posts should be moved to which sub-forum.

It looks good from an organizational standpoint, but in practice, its another stone rolling which will cause an avalanche.

I vote bad idea.

same reply for similar kind of requests

and then someone suggest a movie section..
then one for music...

etc..
etc...
etc....

and...

etc.....

Thema Devia can cope with the amount of sports thread we have now. Same as with the movie topics and the music topics. Let Thema Devia bet whats it supposed to be, an off-topic area where you are allowed to talk about anything. Well almost anything.

Well I just thought it would be a nice addition. I understand a limit should be instated, but there should be a better system of finding and posting threads way different from each other.

We don't have the traffic. If we were somethingawful.com, we'd have enough people to have a busy sports forum as well as busy [insert 321 other topics] forums, but we don't. No point in making a board that will get three posts a day, so we lump them all into one.

It is perhaps revealing that all of the Staff who have voted, have voted nay...

Yes :

Aaron88, Achilles_47, Lord Rahl, Mack Daddy, MadBurgerMaker, plasticfigurine, rome ac

No:

Ardeur, Atheist Peace, Blaven, Fabolous, Farnan, General_Sun, Justinian, King of Atlantis, MareNostrum, MoROmeTe the Dacian, Seleukos, Squeakus Maximus, Sulla, The Bavarian Noble, therussian91

I personally would like a sports section if we had enough intrest(like people actually posting sports topics), but from the look of things we dont have nearly enough intrest in sports to require a forum.

King of Atlantis has it right here - the proportion of threads created does not warrant a new forum. I voted 'I don't care.'

Self-contradiction is a horrible thing.

I wondered if anybody would notice that.

However, as it happens, I think your wrong.

It is true that Sulla briefly refered to Cohortes Praetoria as staff, however; it is now apparent that Cohortes Praetoria cannot view staff forums, and thus perform the duties of the normal staff members, voting on civitates e.t.c. As such it seems that Sulla's reference to them as that was erroneous.

So there.

Ah well, we all wait eagerly for Sulla's ammendment.

It seems to me that there are actully quite a few people intrested in sports (few members visit this forum), however, I think that there are already ready spaces for sports conversation in the Thema Devia. I stand undecided.

we can actually view staff forums, atleast one of them. There is another where civates are voted on, which we cant see, but we do still see a staff forum. So the way I see it Cohortes can be considered staff, just the bottom of the food chain..

Technically we dont even exist anyways so.. :whistling

Just to clear things up (or not), the staff forum that you can't view is named "Staff Forum".

And on a side note, I'm the only person in the world who doesn't go to TD? . . .
