i think the spartan royal guard unit is great but i was a little dissaponited the that it could not use the phalanx formation. is there any where of changing the data files so it can use it because i am very confused :ermm: :ermm:

if you have BI than you could install BI XGM where the royal guard uses shield wall, representing the old fighting stile. other than that you have spartan phalangites that fight in phalanx formation

Does auxilia use overhand animation?
I think secondary weapon shouldn't be a problem, spartan royal guard got a sword too IIRC and you don't need a seconday weapon for phalanx since 1.3 IIRC, but if the game does not crash you could get weird stuff like very long overhand spears that would look very silly... If it happens I think you can just change the skeleton to the one used by spartan phalangites in the descr_models_battle file.
 
30 Turns=1 Unit!!??

one of the Spartan unit (forgot which one) requires 30 turns to recruit, i forgot how to change it so any help will be appreciated...

Spartan royal guard. you need to go to export_descr_units in xgm/ data directory. find the spartan hoplytes entry in the middle of the file and change 30 to whatever you need. having it 30 turns is much interesting though. you have spartan phalangites that take 2 turns to create.

The reason they are like that is so players are mostly restricted to just retraining them. I'm currently training a second unit of Spartan Royal Guard, but probably not any more after that unless I have a huge empire that requires it.

Spartan Royal Guards, retrained and armoured are almost impossible to kill off. I would change it to 20 if the wait time is too long for you. But for the sake of realism, don't change it down to 1 turn!:)

Mine have single handley taken the enemy walls with over 500 men on them, with a unit of 41 men :P. They're pretty vunerable to missle units though.
