I'm a brand to player to this game and I absolutely love it. However, I'm just wondering how I go about converting other cities to my religion? Do I just position my cardinal/priest next to the city or within the region or is there an actual convert command? If someone could let me know that would be wonderful!:)

Within the region or settlement should be fine, they will convert automatically. Also having your religious building, (church, chapel, masjid), in the settlement will convert as well. Be aware though, that if a rival religious agent is in your lands, they will convert the populace away from your religion.

Once a Catholic priest has over 5 piety, he can be chosen as a Cardinal, which gives him the option to vote in papal elections, or even be elected as pope himself. Muslims imams and Orthodox priests do not get this however.

Since your new, I may as well explain the crusade/jihad function, since it ties in with religion. If you have high enough standing with the pope, you can request a crusade to a certain location, from a list. Muslim factions call jihads simply by having an imam over 4 piety, so its much easier to call them.
Once one your particular holy war, any army that joins doesnt pay upkeep, and gets access to special unique mercenaries, as well being able to move at double speed. Be aware though, that if you dont continually move towards the target, your soldiers will begin deserting.

I've written a lot there, but I hope it is of use to you. Welcome to the Total War Centre by the way. :)

nice one for the links, i've just started a new campaign this will help allot - :thumbsup4

Thanks for the help. I tried it out last night and I kinda figured it out finally on my own. Any of you know how many turns you have per game? I'm on 140 and I have 15 regions and the BLACK DEATH just finished demolishing all of my cities for 5 turns. Plus, will the Mongols really make it all the way to spain? I'm sure they will, but I am building my army currently to finish off France. The Moors are gone already and I took out Tunis on a Catholic Crusade. Just wondering if maybe I should go to the pope to get a crusade against the Mongols?? Any help would be wonderful.

You can view the number of turns remaining when you check out your faction window (by clicking on your coat-of-arms shield). It has the year, your faction leader's name, your best general and all that stuff. It also has turns remaining.

As far as the Mongols, I'm not really sure since I'm usually in the Holy Land by the time they come and I lay some serious hurt on them. They do have power in numbers and huge cavalry numbers (horse archers are a PAIN to deal with), so they can make pretty strong pushes across the world, but all the way to Spain. . . I doubt it. The historic Mongols made it toward Constantinople and that was about it: they spent their time dominating Muslim territory.

Obviously MTW is different, but for them to push all the way to Spain is unlikely, they don't have the manpower to make it that far, unless every other faction is just worthlessly pathetic in fighting them off.
