Hahaha^^ I cannnot even open the game console, because of a Windows Vista/HP Keyboard bug, let alone cheat:laughter:

TM don't need to cheat - he's been playing a while now so he's used to XGM :thumbsup2

Some people when they first start think 'oh this is just like vanilla' and then get hammered in ten turns or less.

Heck, thats what happened the first time I tried Bactria and I had already been playing a little while.

I was much more prepared for the second attempt.

Yeah:) Bactria, then more then now I think, is really as-kicking iff you don't know how to play XGM.

Here's an update on my Seleucid campaign (XGM 5.6.4).

I'm slowly working on griding down the last few Scythian settlements. With any luck they will disappear as a faction completely in a few more turns. An amphibious assault on Sicily has gone well, and the island is now in my hands with the conquering army turning to march up the heel of Italy. The Romans are obviously fearful of my advance as they've already relocated their capital to Mediolanium ;)

I dream of getting that for with the Seleucids... One of my favourite rosters, but such a goddamn tough starting position. Once I get my computer back, that's my next campaign. :)

It would be a heck of a lot more manageable if you didn't start out with two units of doryphoroi in about half the cities.

For myself, I like building more so than maintaining. IOW, I like a standing army that I grow along with my empire. Not to try to build up infrastructure so I can support a proper army for the amount of territory that I own.

Good job Eyebrows! A very fine Seleucid campaign indeed. I hate how you start of surrounded by the Ptolemaic Empire, Baktria, Pontus, Parthia, Independant Greeks, and Armenia. It takes a very good player to win with the Seleucid Empire.

thrace3.jpg

This is my second update of my Thracian camapaign. Yes. Scythia is finally gone. But a new power takes its place the Seleucid Empire. I have a firm grip on the the Romans and have almost destroyed them. Germania is a small pest. I have also pushed the Independant Greeks from Asia Minor and now i'm throwing everything I have in the East at the Seleucids.

Brilliant. Looks like the West is pretty tame, time for the epic showdown in the east. :)

Try this:

Go to Data\Text\Descr_shortcuts.txt

Go down to show_console and change the key listed to whatever you like. If you delete where it says hidden, it will make the key selectable from within the game.

Start the game, go to controls, and press reset to defaults.

Now you can apply a key to show debug console

Finally!!!Ive won!! Im sorry but I have decided to quit it after I won. The Romans would have been destroyed quickly by me anyway. :)

I managed to take Rome quite easily after a lightning campaign through Italy. I'll probably keep going though, as there is much fighting still to be done. I've also never played a campaign through to the end date and am interested to see what happens.

I do have a question regarding (non-general) unit experience though. Can regular troops reach 9 experience? I have some Syrian archers who have participated in hundreds of battles, killing literally thousands of Romans but they've been marooned on eight experience for about the last 40 years.

It would be good too have an answer on this one, I have never seen a unit with 3 Gold chevrons either:hmm:

Me too. I've occasionally had a heavy cav unit get to a couple of gold chevron, but other than that, I've only really ever gotten generals bodyguards, and they've mostly been barbarian ones that have the Great Warrior of the Hall trait.

Hmmm....interesting to see that most of you have a similar experience to myself (ie only generals reaching 'level' 9).

I've noticed that when towns revolt and AI armies appear with experience and weapon/armour upgrades that these units also never exceed 8 chevrons. Perhaps 8 is a limit (hard-coded or otherwise) for regular troops. Would be good to have a definitive answer from anyone in the know!

Actually, Eyebrows, I have a screenshot that proves otherwise.

The screeny itself is from D:TW, but it still proves that 9
chevrons are possible with non-general units.

Also, lol@ the AWESOME Roman stack. :ohsnap:

My new campaign. This time I’m playing as Armenia, and believe me, it’s a very nice faction to play. Enemy’s all around you, a nice unit roster, positioned in one of the most interesting areas in the game.

Armenia. Very powerful enemy’s everywhere and only a small army available with your small treasury. So, I thought it was best to go blitzing.

What I did was the following:
First I attacked and captured Mtskheta, after that Albana and as third city Kotais. I knew, now that I bordered with Scythia, that I would soon be in war with them. But I had to take Kotais, otherwise the Scythians would take it and then my entire kingdom would be open to them. I left a very small army there, maybe two Eastern Spearmen, and moved my entire army west towards the Kingdom of Pontus.
RomeTW-ALX2009-08-1219-38-10-81.jpg

The army invaded Pontus from the north, and lay siege to Amasia. I had an ¾ stack, Pontus more then 2. They attacked my army with their strongest stack. A really powerful one. Some Kartakes? (Anyway, those heavy spearman), some Eastern Spearmen, some Heavy Cavalry and Pontic Light Cavalry. My ¾ stack composed was almost the same, only I had some three Horse Archers with me instead of the Light Cavalry. I destroyed the Pontic army and took the city. The year was around 276 BC when I had conquered the entire Pontic Kingdom.
RomeTW-ALX2009-08-1219-38-20-52.jpg

Now TSE declared war on me around 275 BC. I had only a ½ stack in Armenia, but with that I drove back the invading ¾ TSE stack. I then moved to the river between Thospia and Amida. Near Amida were standing around 2 full stacks, with 1 more near Hatra. On the river between Satala and Amida I positioned a ½ stack to face another TSE ¾ stack. Then in the west, on the river near Mazaka I placed a ½ stack to face the full TSE stack there.

The stack near Thospia took out two entire stacks, a total of 3000 men, losing only 500. (In two different battle’s.) Those Phalangites and Thorakitai are tuff soldiers. TSE spams thorakitai, but they are fun to fight so I don’t mind

I moved the ½ stack from Satala and lay siege to Amida, where an TSE stack had flat. I assaulted the city and took it. In the west I moved towards Tarsus and took the city. Unfortunately I was unable to hold the city, due to culture problems, so I abandoned the city and marched with the army towards Hatra, not willing to lay siege to Antioch due to the garrison script. The army from Thospia was retrained and with the Pontus ½ stack I took Hatra.
RomeTW-ALX2009-08-1219-38-33-03.jpg

At the same time a ½ stack invaded eastern Armenia. I quickly to the ¼ stack from Amida and destroyed the invaders.

In the north I had already defeated one Scytian ½ stack in battle which was besieging Kotais.
RomeTW-ALX2009-08-1219-37-57-46.jpg

I moved on to Phraaspa and captured it. Then I invaded with a new built stack Ecbatana.
RomeTW-ALX2009-08-1219-38-48-68.jpg

Unfortunately I had to take 5 units out of the army to deal with the treat of an ½ stack near the TSE city of Arbela. I sent 3 units from Amida and then took destroyed the army and took the city.
RomeTW-ALX2009-08-1219-38-43-36.jpg

In the north, Scytia took Campus Legae. I will soon sent an ¼ stack to take the city and then I think I will give the city to either the Indi Gauls or the Indi Greeks, so that I have only 1 border city with Scytia.

I have had units that had 9 experience before on my Julii campaign in vanilla. I went through carthage, egypt, seleucid empire and finally asia minor but they were legions.

@ visiar:

Very nice campaign.I love those fallxmen and their romphaia--->ultimate chopping device!!!:):)

@ TM is Back:

Great progress with one of the most difficult factions!:thumbsup2
although I actually hate you for fighting against my beloved Seleucids...with you stinky hillmen and your pesky horse archers...

Here is my current Seleucid campaign(yeah I know I play with them too much but they are so difficult...and I simply love the catas/silvershield pikemen/syrian archers combo!)

In the East I march to recapture the newly lost Seleucia from the evil Bactrian usurpers...those false Buddhist worshippers...:disgust:The ONE and ONLY true religion is Seleukos aka the God aka Apollo:tongue:

In Antioch, I just returned from a pillaging campaign against those feminine Egyptians and I rest my army.Note my faction leader's name:Hippostratos Poliorketes...isn't it awesome?

In Asia Minor, after I finished off Pontus,I will move to capture Ancyra against my allies Gauls, because I have to secure the peninsula against a possible macedonian invasion.

I just hope the Macedonians will not invade untill Pergamon becomes a large city with the appropriate stone walls.:)
In the East there are 2 options: 1)solidify my position around Seleucia and Susa until they reach the large city-level
2)ignore Seleucia and rush into Armenian lands to take their capital and their monument

I suppose you will suggest me option number 1!:P:P:P
As for the Egypts as long as I hold Antioch I am ok,maybe with a hasty campaign i can capture Palestine and use Ierosolyma as a frontier.
But again if the Macedonians invade I am screwed.:(:(

You must retake Seleucia and Susa, whatever the cost. Then quickly take some city's in Armenia but DO NOT GET A BORDER WITH SCYTIA. That would kill you, for their stacks are very strong.
