Ive played total war games for awhile now, but iv never used any patches or mods. Where can i get these? And what really are they and what do they do?(told you i'm new to this) thanks

just type the patch name in on google, for example the new patch for medieval 2 total war is called 1.2 (correct me if im wrong i play more rtw) so in google type medieval 2 total war patches 1.2 and it will give you the link. A patch fixes the bug and problems with the games, a mod is a different thing, a mod is a moderfied verson of the game. There are loads of mods out there but, i really dont no much about them lol. Hope that helped.

After installing patch 1.2 (It takes a while to download because its so big and to install), I commend you download the mod called Stainless Steel. The new version (4.0) of this mod is expected to be released this weekend. I, and many others are awaiting the arrival of this new version and it should be very fun.

Patch 1.2 can be found here: http://downloads.gamezone.com/demosfiles/t23273.htm
Stainless Steel can be found here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=314

patches are usually made by original creators of the game, and vary in size and changes. Small patches usually simply change bugs, while larger ones change bugs, fixes balance, and sometimes offer new content. I recommend you get patch 1.2, as said above, as it is a huge patch and fixes a lot.

Mods are modifications of the game, and like in patches, they vary in size in changes. Small mods may simply change balance or give new AI or a few features, such as RealCombat, and the various Darthmods. While other mods, like Road to Jerusalem, feature a combination of small mods and may at the same time offer new things. Then there are modifications that can't really be seen as total conversions, but change many things on there own. Good ones include Stainless Steel, Lands To Conquer, and a few others. Than there are the large total conversions. None have really been released, but the soonest one to come out is probably Broken Crescent, which because I think is awesome, I am inclined to advertise and say that it has a huge amount of historical accuracy, INCREDIBLY AWESOME UNIT SKINS!, and a host of new units. The other highly reputable mod is Medieval Total Realism, made by the Rome Total Realism crew. However, this mod isn't very far in its stages, and since its a huge conversion, it shouldn't be. You can find most mods at the Hosted Modifications area or Released mods thread.
