Now, this is only a very very small adjustment so far, virtually anyone could do it. I am just putting these files out there to see if there is any interest at all, and they will be improved as time goes on, it's just that I do have little time.

I was tired of seeing the Mongols in late era never do anything, or simply be too weak to do anything. This of course, made them quite trivial and pointless, so I have tried to not only make them more historically accurate, but more powerful.

This is 100% compatible with both SSTC and RR, I'm not sure how it'd work without either, or with Byg, but so far there is few files to change, so it is easy to find out. This is only for late era, so far.

Unfortunately, this is hard to test as I do have little time, so feedback is nice if you do use it. It changes nothing for any other factions.


Things already done

- Added extra Mongol armies (However, they do not have historical names or their own personalities, yet)
- Adjusted Genghis Khans age to his actual age
- Raised the king's purse to represent the wealth the Mongols hold outside of the campaign map
- Added a decent description to the Mongols selection screen (It's not very good so far, but will be improved upon)

Things to do in the near future

- Change the Mongols from Islam to Pagan, which is more accurate
- Improve description
- Give new generals historic names and unique personalities
- Test and balance
- Tweak Mongol AI to make them more aggressive (although I have a feeling this may be beyond my ability, only one way to find out)
- Have new armies enter at certain events instead of all at once


To install, simply put the descr_strat file into stainless_steel_6/data/world/maps/campaign/custom/late_era_campaign, and campaign description into stainless_steel_6/data/text

I am also in the process of getting some other people to help with creating new units.

Working together would be great.
 
Awesome, well seeing as you already seem to have a better idea of what's going on, is their anything on my list that is already done or being done, or you really don't like the idea of?

I love the Pagan mongols mod, tried adding armies myself but I'm amateur at best.
I'm going to try this and report my opinion, I'm desperate for a proper representation of the Mongols as the Western reach of an almighty empire.

Seeing as gewehr36 has done a lot of it already, I'm going to start working on the actual armies themselves. I;m going to have a flick through traits and make the new general's I've put in more unique and make armies come in at different times throughout the game, those are my priorities.

While gehweher36 may not want to combine, it's up to him after all, I'm not going to do anything that he has already done, because that'd be kind of pointless.

Oh and one more thing, if anyone knows the file that handles campaign map AI and any tips about it, the help would be much appreciated.
 
Problem. I do not use RR, reduces my fun levels dramatically, and it seems your modified descr_strat file will not work.
I can get no further than the faction selection screen. Clicking start sends me back to te LE campaign splash. If I swap descr_strat for my SS back-up it works fine so its definately something in this file.
Any tips what I could change just to try mongols as you set them up.
I can't see any typos in the mongol secton.

I don't think RR should effect the descr_strat file.

But silly me! I realised I use Caesar Clivus' fabolous Novgorod roster mod, which changes the starting units of Novgorod to units that aren't normally in the game.

If you or someone else has an untouched SS 6.1 descr_strat file, could you please upload it so I can make the Mongol changes to it, then leave it for people to download who don't use the Novgorod roster mod.
 
I found this one in a backup folder. I think it is pure :-)

I removed all the battle models from this one and it should be pure again
 
Pretty I have pure SS6.1 LE
So noob I can't even attach a file properly
 
I have no problem with combining mods, but I would prefer to leave RR and SSTC out of it, or atleast have two versions. I think RR makes the early battles very boring seeing only spear militia fight the entire time and I don't like SSTC because I think SS was fine stock.
 
motom and barser: Thanks for the file, +rep, and I've put a non Novogorod file up, download that, get rid of the brackets and put it in the late campaign folder and it should work.

geweher36: That sounds good to me, I don't want to force people to play using RR and SSTC if they don't want, and as I make modifications, I'll be sure to make versions for both.

Edit: Now THAT is a Horde, works fine, though I may play around with the spawn position and army content.

Be sure to check for updates every now and then, right now I'm neck deep in school holiday homework, but once the first week rush is over with I can get some decent stuff done.
 
The non-Novgorod file has the low kings purse, no biggie, just a note

Here are some suggestions (some of them are my personal modifications)

i think that you should increase the unit pool fill up rate and maximum for nearly all the mongol's units to be alittle bit to match other factions.

Give another unit the free upkeep ability

Move Mongol Infantry down a tier and replace the top teir infantry with something like dismounted khan's guard

Remove the religion and "hidden resource" requirement for heavy lancers, dismounted heavy lancers, and heavy horse archers.

increase the upkeep of almost all mongol infantry

give them the ability to create bombards.

I was going to do that in my mod but I changed the requirement from 95% Muslim to 85% pagan to get Khan Guards and some other units. Since those units are elite, it should take you a while to get them, and the Mongols can handle themselves with their other units anyway.
 
In regards to obbob post.

I was going to have a look at the Mongol recruitment system as it is rather bizarre.

However I see no real reason to increase the upkeep for their infantry.
 
Damn, you have to bump things every day to keep them even near the top.
Looking forward to any updates. Pagan or improved personalities.
 
I'm going to mess with recruitment tonight a bit, and if time, going to fix the generals (it's just a pain getting the puzzle of traits right), so hopefully an update will be up by tonight (tomorrow for the rest of the world :P)

And that reminds me to ask you, what files exactly does your mod change? I'll have to ask Chim and PB about theirs too, because I want SSTC, RR and vanilla versions.
 
Ahh alright neato.

I think I may create more versions again, because your mod adds a lot of other things, so I'll try and seperate it into a mod that just changes the Mongols, and a larger one more based on what you've created, if that's cool.
 
I don't mind if you take out the correct adjectives part or the all factions horde part. Feel free to only use the Mongol stuff if you feel like it. Don't get to work yet though, I have an updated version that I need to put up.
