Never read Terry Pratchet. Can you give me a brief synopsis/summary?

Terry Pratchett for the most part writes in a fictional world called the discworld. On the surface its fun basic humour but usually there is a satirical look at the real world underneath and some very very funny stories.

I started reading them when I was quite young, and I am still reading them now. He is quite possibly one of the greatest authors of the last couple of decades.

I am also enjoying Conn Igguldens Emporer series, the dramatisation of Julius Caesars life.

Moderatly enjoying the Wheel of Time series which is a fantasy star wars clone of sorts but without the lightsabers or technology. I say moderatly because the scale is epic and the story so involved and it would be one of the greatest fantasy stories ever written if it wasn't for the obscure writing style of Robert Jordan. His obsession with womens reactions and dresses are disturbing to say the least, and his reversal of stereotypical ideas as a concept for the story is crap and clumsy.

Can't stand Valerio Massimi Manfredi either.

Terry pratchet was funny as i was younger. MORT was my first book i read. I can tell of three very good series. I. Malazan book of fallen from Steven Erikson. - Great books, but very detailed. II. Black company series from Glen Cook. - Those are verry well, magic system is somehow poor when you readed thos from Erikson, but story is... what sould i say... Ancient-realistic. III. The Fionavar Tapestry trylogy from Guy Gavriel Kay. - This one gives you a feeling if this could happend to you. once my favorite. a miss it somehow this world.

I don't really read a lot of "series" I guess. I voted Harry Potter, because it's the only one of those choices I've read and like.

The most recent series that I read, and enjoyed, was the Dragonlance series I read as a child. It's been years since I've read them, so I can't recall if the writing was good at all or if the characters were developed very well.

All I can remember is that I liked them for what they were worth.

Let me put it like this; there is only one series I own every book in, and that is the Discworld series (I don't count the maps and so on as books). Pratchett is an evocative, funny, incisive, clever writer, who creates real characters with more humanity than some people in the world. Not only is it funny its also a good social commentary, at that!

The LOTR series is the best written on the list and I didn't feel like thinking of another series. Althogh the Timeline-191 books are good (Including Great War, American Empire and Settling Accounts series)

Honestly, I thought the first Lord of the Rings novel was a boring read. The Hobbit was pretty decent imo, and was the first fantasy book I read and liked that wasn't part of the Dragonlance series.

From what I remember Dragonlance is based on the DnD universe. I think the Ravenloft series is based on Forgotten Realms. It's been years since I've read them.

No, Ravenloft is based on Ravenloft... the Drizz't series is in the Realms.

Voted Lord of the Rings but really when i say that i mean any of the books Tolkien wrote about middle earth.

Also the Lion of Macedon an Stones of Power two books series by David Gemmell

Harry Turteldove is an okay writer. I just wish he would stay away from the sex scenes in his books. They are poorly written and pull down on the books 'coolness' effect.

But they are nothing compared to LotR.
I completely agree. Hell, Tom Clancy does better sex scenes.......ermm.

I voted for LotR. Lord of the rings was one of the first books I read and I found it very enjoyable, I have actually read it twice

The title "Lord Rahl" is that of the mighty D'Harans. You basically don't want to mess with any Lord Rahls whether it is Panis, Darken, Nathan, Richard, etc. You will get pwned.

It's about Lord Rahl :original: . A pretty decent series not great thought.

Voted the Wheel of Time pretty darn impressive work if you ask me, now if he would just finish it allready!

Blasphemy! That is it. Now I'm gonna have to send some miswrith after you or something.

Master Rahl guide us. Master Rahl teach us. Master Rahl protect us. In your light we thrive. In your mercy we are sheltered. In your wisdom we are humbled. We live only to serve. Our lives our yours.

Bernard Cornwell with the Sharpe series.
