A Proper Empire, Darth Mod and Imperial Splendour seem to be the cream of the crop for "overhaul" mods. What are the good and bad points of each and what would you reccomend yourself?

I figured posting here I'd get more of a variety of opinions as posting in the forum for the respective mod would probably get me pretty biast asnwers lol.

Forget about APE, it's no fun.

I use Imperial Splendour (Highly reccomended) but I've heard good things about Darth mod too.

I use 'The Rights of Man' which I found was really good, though I've heard good things about Darthmod.

I was leaning towards Imperial Splendour, I guess I'll try that out first and if that is no good Darth mod.

I was planning on trying out American Revolution after I've played a few campaigns :)

Well looks like I'm trying Darth Mod anyway as the IS DL has an unexpected end to the file on all 3 attempted DLs.

Thats good mate because in the very near future TAR II will be released which will be even better !:thumbsup2

Excellent timing then, I'll try it out once the new version is out :)

each to their own, my personal three favourites
I have played IS and it is very good and was my first ETW MOD, TAR, and of course the DMUC (from Darth, and of course it is very underated;)) and without doubt the leading MOD for ETW (of course in my own opinion)

I'm playing IS right now (When I do play ETW which is not much right now due to general rl mehness) Its a good mod, want 2.2 to come out though. :P

I played Darth Mod and its alright, over-rated though and the devs kinda annoy me.

Especially when they make threads like that. That thread really turned me off to Darth Mod.

We appreciate the opinion of Statler, Waldorf, you and other similar guys speaking about DarthMod.

Sorry, but I don't understand the idea of combining Star Wars with the XVIII century historical game.
The whole "Star Wars thing" is because of:

A. - It's fun and most people at least like or know about Star Wars

B. - It helps set our mod apart from other mods

C. - And well he IS DARTH VADER ya know! ;)
But yeah, kind of like what hammered said, it's only got a few Star Wars themed things on the outside, inside however, it's all about the 18th century! :capn argh:
hip63 :P

each to their own, I started with IS and moved and stayed with Darth, dependant on when you played DM might be worth a go we are at 6.2 now and there have been a number of excellent changes and advancements, if not continue to enjoy IS

I play Darthmod and it is awesome with the changes it is a very good mod and AI doesnt make as many dumb mistakes.

So what have you done so far to enhance the game?
And if you not understand that someone who is doing hundred of hours for free to mod the game is sometimes exited that it is working as it is meant to be - I am really sorry for you.
Do you take everithing so serious in your daily task?

Anyway thanks for your opinion!

I played over a year the vanilla version of Empire.
This march I downloaded Darthmod Ultimate Commander (DMUC) and it was a complete new game for me.
The CAI (campaign AI) is now very better and does even naval landings in GB!! and India for example.
It is on hard/hard now a reall challenge to win a campaign
AND
the BAI (battlefield AI) is now also a challenge. I remember many times where I lost a battle because the enemy was outflanking me or bayonette-charging my flank combined with a cavalalry-charge.

If you want to play Empire as it was meant to be, or if you want to play Empire 2.0 than you have to play DarthMod (or DMUC) 6.2. (newest version).

I was going to try Darth Mod (Despite really not liking their menu) but I could not figure out how to properly install DMUC for the life of me, so I went with Imperial Splendour and I am happier for it.

If it was possible to try Darthmod and keep Imperial Splendour I would, but I do not think that is the case.

I'm not sure I quite understnd how you couldn't work out how to install DMUC, since it has an auto-installer, but if you're enjoying IS then thats perfectly fine.

It's kind of vague on what the pre-requisites are, after about two hours of so trying to find the right files I just said  it and downloaded Imperial Splendour.

Now I remember what the problem was, one of the files I had to unzip wouldn't let me unzip it. Maybe I'll try it again.

EDIT: Well I installed it and I must say that I was underwhelmed.

Things I liked:

-New flags
-Beautiful map
-Loading screens
-General portraits
-Unit sizes

Things I did not like:

-Only vanilla factions playable in GC
-No new units as far I could tell (I only looked at the Ottomans and The UP though)

Am I missing something here? I thought DMUC was supposed to add a whole load of new units.:hmm:

How large was the file you downloaded? If you did not get the extra units etc you may have downloaded the normal darthmod, which only deals with the AI. I can assure you there are plenty of new units.

DMUC has its own launcher which you have to start the game from-are you using that? If so, go to darthmod campaigns (as opposed to empire campaigns which are the vanilla campaigns that have been darthmodded), and choose from ultimate, ultimate late or custom campaigns, and each one has a slightly different list of playable factions (and some region owner differences.)

This is where I went wrong, I chose the Empire campaign.

Cool, I guess I'll install it again. Hopefully my favorite factions (Ottoman Empire, Sweden, UP) have cool rosters that will be worth the change.

EDIT: Nope, still not impressed, back to IS for me.

The extra units are available in every campaign of DMUC. So this not what it went wrong obviously for me.
