Actions in the Forum

Archer, any mod, whoever, you may close this whenever you want, in fact it may be better if you do, I just want this read by anyone who cares. I was in the process of posting this in the Seleukos thread before it was closed. Now, I understand fully that this issue has been a problem in the past (spam, flaming, etc) and there is nothing you will tell us on the Sel issue that you haven't already. That's ok. I have neither the power nor the authority to see it, nor is it going to kill me if I don't. That said, I do read Curial threads, and this caught my eye and it did seem...funny. The relevant part of that post is displayed below.

-----

I do agree with one point made- the younger members of this forum are filling their part admirably (the young part I mean). There's flame wars going on in the Curia, where I've been taught by reading threads here is pretty much a "beyond reproach" area that's supposed to illustrate the best of the community. I honestly don't care how many posts I've had here or how long I've been here (if someone uses that against my credibility so be it) but I'm speaking from a platform of common sense and decency, which I've learned over twenty years. If you are going to be part of a community based on debate and discussion, and you are charged with keeping it ordered and respectful, it is your duty to be beyond reproach yourself and to try to see all sides. Moderators should not be flaming and popping off in the most important area of this site (aside from the "Alhambra" which I didn't even know existed until today).

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter. Those who call themselves adults and who speak from an adult platform need to learn how to act like it, and when I say this I say it to everyone. The best way to convey an idea is clearly and concisely presenting your arguments in a way you feel illustrates your point best, and the best way to do so is to try to understand all aspects. In my mind, you can't refute something if you don't even know what you're refuting.

In my mind, this statement applies to everyone, not just moderators, administrators, civs, whatever. I am not a civitate and I cannot post in the Curia, or my answer would have been in the relevant thread. I also believe this statement will help the forum, in which I've had several wonderful discussions and debates and which I hope remains strong.

With that, I am open to the idea of replies, as those in the forum will likely have an opinion on this. However, I now leave this to the administrators. If they feel it is in the best interest of the forum to close this, then by all means, cut it, and quickly. If admins believe a discussion would serve the forum well, then I will participate, elaborate on any part of my statements and answer any respectfully posed question. Thank you.

Re: Actions in the Forum

Good post, I agree completely. I also think that you will probably wind up a civ sooner rather than later.

That is if you stick around with the constant arguing by the 'higher ups' around here. :disgust

Do you get it now?

Re: What's going on here removed.

There were several threads along the same lines. Most of the threads with people who knew what was going on had answered the questions from that thread.

Re: What's going on here removed.

If I was you I'd just sit back and watch. Most staff would probably ignore what non-civs have to say at the moment, and you don't have much influence with them anyway. There is much more happening which you cannot see, some the Civitates do not even get to see. :disgust

Also, beware the :mpower

Re: What's going on here removed.

you guys seem to have your heads screwed on,but the whole site and what it contributes isn't just the psuedo politics of the civ's, there is a thriving community of modders here as well and that is under threat if a new stricter regime is implamented, about 70% of recent post in the work shop would have been deleated if the regime reverted to the old ways,

Re: Actions in the Forum

Well, not knowing who Crandar is, I have to reserve judgment until I see for myself. If he is doing what at first glance it appears he is doing (this is Curial), then I respectfully disagree with his methods, as he's going to get a lot of people angry. What he did in the past certainly seems very dishonest and wrong, but that was before my time and above my station.

That said, that is simply my view and a word of caution. This thread is not a Crandar-bashing thread, and I sincerely hope it does not become one because the paragraph above is not an attack, it is a warning that things are very charged in there and all sides would do well to think about things. The majority of people I've seen in the Curia are angry, the majority of people have their side firmly established and I understand that. If Crandar does what people say he has done or plans on doing, I will be against him, and against his holding of a responsible position. If Crandar does not abuse his power, then I will be content with the state of affairs.

My personal opinion is that this site should be well moderated, but also given a healthy amount of freedom of speech. I sometimes worry about my comments in this thread, hoping that they won't be taken in a context that suggests I'm trying to inflame things. Saying that though, everyone goes off topic, and everyone has vehement views about some things. My personal advice to Crandar, not knowing him, is to bear in mind that there will be disagreement with his policies, as with all policies, and to keep an open mind. Some of the members he called out this morning, I have had spirited debates and discussions with, and I can tell you they are good people who only want to see things go well.

My personal view is "better no government than a tyranny". This forum is not full of trash, these are good discussors and good debators, as well as good people I have talked to and posted with. I plead with all to recognize that, and that's all.

Re: What's going on here removed.

No surprise really Tostig given what's happened today. If anyone has just arrived they will be intrested to know that I have had 3 threads closed for being in the wrong place (EVER HEARD OF MOVING MODS)!!! I've also just discovered that Lusted justed resigned, this is getting serious....perhaps it's time for The Great Petition Of Power 2!

Re: What's going on here removed.

It's the end of TWC, we will all resign in the end.

The TW community will be largely unaffected by these changes - in so far as I can ensure.

Three people resigned over a mod called Crandar's return, you must not have liked Lusted and other mods that have gone today!

Re: What's going on here removed.

OMG the end is not here. one petty arguement and the whol TWC blows it outta proportian sure we don't know WTF is goin on. but i'm sure that the 2 main factions bumped heads and now 2 guys resigned. no worries mates. just sit back, grab a popcorn, and watch the new powers rise. :wicked

Yes Ummon...this might be the end. Perhaps we should call for the band to play some nice violin solos before the end... so that we can all go out in style... :innocent:

Good Riddance to bad rubbish.
Would have thought that people would have learned from the last hissy fitt within the Curia.
I just wonder when the Hacker attack is going to come this time?
The only thing I worry about is the Mods, Skins and Units that people have worked on and not about the pseudo-intellectual debates and the luaghable Elitist govt. system on this forum.
Maybe after this the owner will just have Moderators to Moderate and not a two class system that leads to power struggles and hurt feelings that lead to a hacking attack like the last time.

Re: What's going on here removed.

If the non-civs want to influence things, I would recommend the mod communities threatening to find new homes if this crap continues. The hosted mods have kept this site going, without them there isn't much to draw people here anymore.

Re: What's going on here removed.

I would like to stress that the problems we see with the site are not in the TW Community. The Workshop has nearly no spam, and the various General forums only small amounts. Hosted mod forums definitely will not be affected by this in the least.

Edit: Threads merged.

In The Name Of Rome Total War And All Non Mods Of This Forum!
I am posting a second version of the Petition closed earlier here in case the mods shut the offical thread down. The first petition and this one promotes the following...

-Free Speech
-An end to the war of words between management
-A committee is needed not a tribunal!
-Respect

Let your voice be heard if you are a non-mod as I and others call for an end to the rift between senior management at present. Three people have resigned today and many more could follow, maybe even a spilt in TWC! Post Now If You Support This Petition!
