Changing the dust into red just dosen't look right

there is no dust changed into red. I manually added the blood effect in the texts, which is a particle thus looks like dust or vapor. There is no
better alternative.

is the effect of burned corpses done with a texture ? if yes - where do I find that texture ?

C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\textures\charring.tga.dds

Whoow... Archer the screenshots you posted are very good... As Boudicca said , it's no problem if it's only for missiles, it will be more bloody anyway and that's all it matters. I was wondering if you will be able to compress the files in a mini-mod or something ??

Farewell,
Arbaces

UPDATE: I used "Search" on Downloads and found the old project everyone was talking about, which seems to be old. Now i'm content... though, if you'll make an update it would be even beter.

By the way, what I tried is to list all weapons as "projectiles" in the descr_projectile.txt and at the line of "display", I tried to give it a custom blood effect. It didn't work, since the game is looking for projectiles there, not meele weapons.
I also created a descr_blood.txt, but since the game isn't looking for it, it won't use it. This is what really sucks, because the game only uses the already pre-defined effects, and new ones could only be added if the source code would be modified to recognize it. Of course we do not have the source-code (alias the hard-coded material), and as you can see with BI - CA added custom light effects (modified the hard coded stuff) and re-released the game again, so adding new effects isn't impossible - but requires full access to the game-code.

If that's the case, can't you just creat a invisible projectile there?

would not work, since then the game would be looking for the projectile description along with all the units would have to be edited, make them all missile units and they would start to skirmish with their swords
sounds kinda hilarious to me..

you could make them use a melee animation and give the projectile a range of 1

That would be good, but then, wouldn't the units just be standing next to each other and all attack at the same time? They would all attack as one, and the unit ranks would be the same because they just stand next to each other and one one dies, they just take there place.

I'm just trying to say that it would look wierd

Im guessing that the batle would look like this the whole time:

Albiet with the units closer together

hm... however, this could be quite good when using hoplites. they will have a face-to-face :)

p.s.: time ago months ago - i have downloaded a blood mod, that works when missiles hit people. i really like it, but when i've try to add it on a CLEAN bi, it was not working and acuses crashes. i'm talking of BI top 1.6, that i have seen have divverent files or so. in fact, once opened the blood mod, i've substituted the effects adding the "blood" to each projectile, so i was thinking, it will work. unfortunately, the only result is that at the end i have more dark corpses, as happens in the bloodmod too, but there were not blood. just the burning animation.
unfortunately, the files in which there were the settings for the burning animations in BI has been moved or so, because the files preent in the bloodmod are "new" for BI 1.6. there are not 2 files in BI, and i cannot find where the burning animations or so are coded. :(

Now why the hell isn't blood included in the game in the first place? I mean it is a friggin WAR game where masses of people storm each others with friggin spears,axes,swords....dogs!!

hello all! ive been looking at this thread even before i joined TWC. so is this mod dead or just inactive?

kinda dead. but there is a blood mod, which only lets you see blood by missile weapons. it's somewhere in the download section.

Hi archer. Is there any way this mod can be converted so it can work with RTW 1.5? I tried in 1.5 but instead of blood I get fire effect. If you can give me a hand I would appreciate. Thanks.

Good news LaceDaemonian. Thanks for answering. I will anxiousy be waiting 'cause it looks like a really cool mod. Can't wait.

i'm new to the modding, but i think i got how the actions tie together:
remember the blood mod for projectiles? the thing modded the burning man effect to include blood, so i guess we have to modifie the file which describes dead units on the ground, also the sound thing does not work, visual and audio never ties, i dont think we can get the blood to appear as the units clash, but maybe on the ground?

The Lacedaemonian said:
that would still be good, but if you wanna continue Archer's work, i guess you can pm him for the modded files.

...for which i have no idea what i did to them.

basically replace the fire arrow effect (burning man effect) with a particle effect (like dust) and change the RGB colors for it.

now edit the missile.txt so every weapon that has been thrown or shot is "fiery". you will loose the burning man effect, but instead you get some blood effect.

I know, easier said than done, but hey, experienced modders might know what i'm talking about.

The Lacedaemonian said:
hm... is it possible to make melee weapons have the fiery effect too?

nope. not without accessing the core files of RTW, which remains unaccessable to be edited. Only someone with a serious script skill and animating skill as well as
expert understanding of effects, models, textures and coding could do it.

two letters: CA.

but id like to look into this. id like to try it perhaps.

firstly which text file did you edit to replace the burning effect to a particle (aka dust)

maybe i can go on from there.

I thought the blood mod wasn't possible unless you sacrificed some other effect in the game? Fire was it?
