GEM - Graphics Enhancement Mod is a new shader collection (GEM) and a new injector (GEMFX) I implemented which also utilizes the SweetFX shader stack and is inspired by SweetFX/Enbseries to improve the look of TW-Games.

Before downloading these files, make sure to read the section License Agreements.

Stand-Alone, Installation
1: Download the file:
<::> GEMFXv1.0.9 <::> >> (also for Attila TW)
2: Start
the installer and point out the location to your Application folder (something like D:\STEAM\SteamApps\common\ApplicationName\).

Rome II Total War, Installation
(Only ToDo once)
1: Download the
file: (if link is "not working" do the following: right click on the link and use "save as", repeat that until it works -normally like 3 times-)
<::> View attachment GEMFXSteamInstaller.zip <::> >> (Steam version uses GEMFX)
2: Unzip
the installer file.
3: Start
the installer and point out the location to your Rome Total War II folder (something like D:\STEAM\SteamApps\common\Total War Rome II\).
4: Subscribe GEMFX on STEAM to download the latest GEMFX version (gem.pack).

(ToDo for each update on Steam)
5.1
: Run the R2 launcher to force the gem.pack download/update from Steam.
5.2
: Run GEMSteamInstaller in your Rome Total War II folder to install/update GEMFX from the new gem.pack.

Installation Notes::
- Delete all prior GEM files
- Update your .Net Framework and c++ vcredists
- Get the new GEMFXSteamInstaller in the OP
- Use in-game AA if UI-By-Pass enabled
- For typical injector problems, check here:http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/?page_id=112.
-- Try also to delete all files (but "save_games" and "replays") in
C:\Users\[My User]\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome2.

To Uninstall: Simply delete the dxgi.dll file from your Rome 2 folder

I use the default settings of GEM but due to the variation in taste I post a few personal settings of other users.
You should check the default settings first and if it is not what you like switch through the following user settings to find your favourit.

All user files will now be available via Steam (in /GEMFX/Presets/...)

UPDATE GEMFXv1.0
(since there have been many changes I decided to switch from GEMv6.1 to GEMFXv1.0 with this release)

GEMFX is finally released and provides you with plenty of new features. Note that this is the first official release so be patient and understanding if not everything works right away.

Features of GEMFX (new since GEMv6.1 are marked red)::
- SweetFX shader stack included
- New shaders such as Realistic/TrueColor, Blur, ClearVision, Davinci, HBO, Gaussian, (smart)FilmGrain, AmbienteLight, DirtLense, GodRays, AnamorphicFlares, LenseFlares(not finished)
- Windows 8.1 support
- 2xFXAA
- UI-By-Pass for Rome 2
- Configurator Tool
- In-game Menu(not finished) which so far provides features such as loading user presets
- Increased performance
- In-memory shaders(stable and secure experience)

Please enjoy GEMFX, give feedback to its features and report bugs.

Hmm, for some reason the 1.0 doesn't work for me. I can't get past the Mod Manager window. The Beta version worked great :)

Edit: ".Net Framework and c++ vcredists" seem to be up to date.

Allright, I'm giving it a try.

The AmbienteLight and God Rays are a bit over the top for me :) But it's easy to tone down.

Regarding the SweetFX part of the Configurator, nothing is activated at the moment, right? I can use the GEMFX part without thouching the SweetFX part?

First off thx for this release! Following your orders everything works good and fine!

Only question I have: In the configurator I can NOT activate 64-bit app. The small box is simply greayed out and I can't click it!

I am running on win7 (64-bit) and GTX680.

Not a big deal tough and still thx for all the effort you put in this project enhancing RTW2 graphics to the max!
I said it before but I won't get tierd of saying it again: This is the best graphical mod out and also the first mod for Rome2 I ever got! (even before DeI :))
So thx once again and of course +1 rep once again!

Edit: I can't give you rep since it hasn't been to long since I gave it to you (strange I think it has been months :)) Anybody who reads this pls give rep to LH! Thx in advance

Try verifying the Rome 2 cache. I did that after installing GEM and Steam downloaded something.

I think the rule is to spread +rep somewhere else first :P
The 64bit field I included so for the next release. You do not need it for Rome 2 but other games. I would have included it already, but I cannot test it myself so I need some information first (talked already with elveon about it) from someone that can run 64bit games on his system.

Yeah! Your right I need to spread some love somewhere else... But still my request to all who read this is up :)

About 64-bit... ok, I didn't know that... It doesn't really matter though since Rome 2 looks fantastic with this GEM!
(I am not that of a noob but I still thought "hey 64-bit should be better" so I ultimately wanted to click it :))

this cannot be the entire log. It also seems you are not using the correct version, since the SweetFX_settings.txt is not part of GEMFX.

sorry but this time i am out of any solutions

i strongly recommend a detailed step by step installation guide for all none programmers...it's really hard that even rome 2 vanilla cannot start after steam varified all files...how can this be ??? your new version demands sweetfx settings i had to delete as ya say, so how can this be, if i install GEM 6.1 too, i can run Rome 2, if a deinstall GEM 6.1 i cannot load Rome 2 vanilla...it is really frustating, i lost 3 hours for this and methinks i am not the only one getting these failures

Like before, not being able to start vanilla because of GEM can only be because you did not delete the dxgi.dll.
I would need the GEMFX.log file to evaluate. Also make sure to really use the new GEMSteamInstaller.

it was one :wub:** sweetfx injector file that prevents me from testing and launching, don't know where this injector file comes from, date was from 17. october 2013!!!! seems like this had tricked me so bad...now it is working and i am testing whole day...the only reason i wrote such a bad posting before is, GEM is the real heart of rome 2 pumping the blood in veins, ya know...thx for all your work and patience good sir...whenever ya visit germany, ya get a beer or two, ya have been invited for lifetime

Hi, guys.

I am sure I did everything right, all my drivers are up-to-date, but GEM stills forces Shader 3 here, and 'don't do the magic'. I used to take optional installer because I have Win 8 x64 (not 8.1, 8 Interprise), but there is only one installer now, it says that is Win 8.1 compactible, but just don't work here. There is not log.log file, and my gfx.log is below:

Any chance to get a standalone (.pack) file without the installer?

Running the game on my mac, so neither the steam nor the installer works.

I've tried every fckng thing u mentioned but it doesn't work for me too... But why??? Btw when I delete gem mod from mod manager, (checked data folder it's gone ok) then when i subscribe again it installs it in a sec how??? 590 mb mod and it downloads in a sec. What am i missing ?
(btw i'm an old gem user and ı know how to install this)

@to all who got problems:

i've had your same issue (SM forced to 3 and GEM not working, no .log file) and even if .NET Framework was the latest, i solved by uninstalling it manually in the Control Panel (you must look for the INSTALLED UPDATE CODE of the last .NET framework on microsoft website) and then i re-installed everything still manually (not via-Microsoft Update)!
Other users solved by installing Visual C++ for Visual Studio 2013 update off the Microsoft site manually.

So,first be sure every old GEM files (overall dxgi.dll) and/or anything like that (such as injector) are removed,
then be sure everything is up to date, and if they already are then try to manually unistall and re-install all .net framework and VC redist!

Hi there! I've been a gem user since a year ago. I've followed all aforementioned steps but my game wouldn't even start. My log like the guy's above :

I think that some freaking Sweetfx file remains that I cannot find :hammer:. Taking that into account I accidentally deleted a file d3d9.dll or something like that and now even GEM is activated it wont even start .Rome starts only with vanilla....Could someone tell me the names of the .dll files that have to be deleted that provoke this ?

P.S. I've downloaded both .NET and Vis c++ updates
