For me all the other races seem to be facets of human psychology taken to extremes. So i prefer humans for the more balanced personalities that they tend to possess.

well every race has pros and cons.
based on the books (cuz the movie is beautiful but is wrong with the truth) the lord of the rings, the silmarion and the hobbit, i think every book says something else.
in the silmarion the elves are the true masters. they were the first, they were the strong and they provided the dark lord melkor and melkor kinda made sauron...
in the hobbit the dwarves are realy overpowered. when the battle of the 5 armies or whatever its called starts
the group of bilbo fight like possesed and killed a huge amount of goblins and other foul beasts.
and the last but not least its the humans, the basic kind. they show what they are made of in the lord of the rings.
of course isildur is a weak piece of , but the other humans were able to hold back the orcs in osgiliath, they wear in the last alliance together with the elves the only on that resisted against sauron. for the rest they have got good "technology".
they have the best catapults, they make the most great structures and have a great arsenal of weapons.
of course not so good as elves but humans got allot of different weapons and they imply that in their battle style.

and for the evil factions ... they suck.
the orcs are just depowered filthy deformed evles, which lost their power and skill.
the goblins are just a weaker kind of the orcs...
and the uruk-hai is just brute power from the orcs combined with the skill and apearence of the humans.
and all of them rely on brute strengt and numbers. and not on tactic and skill like the good factions.
btw they smell like hell and ik cant believe those orcs can survive in mordor.
i mean come on there are 200.000 orcs in mordor..
there grows nothing and animals arent grazy enough to go there. LOGIC HALLO????
but if i have to choose its the humans cuz we have something good of al of it, and all other factions just like skill more then technology. so if the humans in middle earth discover gunpowder, it would be fun as hell.
