Just a small hint regarding autoresolve vs small armies, like just spawned rebells:
If you have horses in your force, try to avoid using the aggressive stance, as they will do most of the fighting then and will always have casualties. I suggest using defensive stance as this will result in your ranged troops (okay you had none, rule still applies) do most of the job and your cavalry will not rambo into the enemys melee forces. This will result in less casualties on your side or at least better spread. Remember that cavalry usually replenishes from 1st pop class.
I wouldn't suggest auto resolve at all. Too many things could go wrong.
Unless you fill your army with rorari, Legend of total war pointed out that just building plenty of stacks with cheap units will give you better results at the early game, compared to fewer more expensive armies. They would obv fare much worse in manual battles, so you can pretty much cheese the game with auto resolve in that case .
Although I am a huge fan of Legend of TW (being a fellow foul mouthed aussie and all) I don't intend to Auto Resolve my large battles, as Greek Strategos mentioned there is heaps that can go wrong. If it's nothing more then a small skirmish against an overwhelming force I'll auto resolve, mainly because I am running and older PC build at this point in time and the time it takes to load in & out of battles simply doesn't make small skirmishes worth it. But then I have watched enough of LOTW content to know we have very different play styles...
