Thread: A passive Rome

    Default A passive Rome

Now I have already posted thread similar to this one before regarding my the issue with Rome being weak. People responded that it was simply random whether Rome would expand and become a powerful faction or just decline and die before reaching mid game in the campaign even though I already told them that I have played 7 campaigns before and all of them would end up with the same result. So in my 8th campaign as Parthia, Rome was also in decline! I tried supporting them with armies and money by becoming its military ally lol .. I even sent troops to weaken its enemies to sack their cities so Rome would capture them (Barely happens even when suggesting the target). So all of this was probably in late early to mid game. After Rome finally conquered some of the cites and provinces that I help with. it appeared to me that Rome was eventually stacking armies in Italy, barely expanding and extremely passive only to be dominated by the smaller factions conquering its provinces once more ...

This really makes the mod boring when playing as an Eastern faction, because you really want to challenge a powerful Rome in mid-late game. I hope the developers read this and maybe fix this issue. I have also posted a request to make a submod in order to fix this by giving Rome extra bonuses or anything but no one seemed interested.

Am I the only with a weak and passive Rome ?

There will be separate personalities for each faction with later versions of DeI which should solve any problems with factions being either too aggressive or passive.
Whether Rome atm is weak and passive or not I cannot say since it has been several months since I last played Rome.

That I cannot say for sure. Maybe you will. But since this change will be far out in the future Im certain that you will have finished your current campaign and be itching to start a new one.

AI Rome receives a large income bonus and also defense scripts for Italy that spawn armies. That may not help them expand properly, but it should help them survive at least. A submod could perhaps be made where Rome is given a huge income bonus and other effects to help them (when you aren't playing as them).

One of the main issues is that the AI doesn't handle water and multiple threats very well. This is one of the reasons that vanilla Carthage and Rome are stagnant.

As for water part, what if Rome starts with T1 military port in Neaples? I know it's not completely and utterly historical (since they had no clue about naval warfare till 1st Punic war) , But could that boost their interest to expand navy a bit?

I assume adding more navy to start with would little bit over the top.

Sometimes i have a feeling that AI can only function if it's able to spam limitless armies, otherwise it's in some sort of comatose state

I don't think having a navy is the issue, but that the AI doesn't know how to use its navies well. The AI likes to sit its fleets out in deep waters doing nothing for several turns sometimes...
