May i suggest somthing? I think that the early scutum (the one your Marian legions uses) is very small.. I know it's vanilla but have you consider to enlarge it?
From what i know republican or early scutum was the largest throught roman history. Here the early scutum is the smallest..

That's about the sorta size they are in-game, they're the same as in Rome II. Personally I think as long as the shield doesn't obscure the troops' vision then it's just fine.
Edit: Ah, it is shorter after all. Looks much nicer though imo
