Serious question.
What exactly is the difference between these two mods? Why should I download one instead of the other, if they're both for RTW? Though I can't find any download links for Roma Surrectum II anyway

Roma Surrectum II is in development as far as I know , you can get more info here .

Here is the location. And its on the thread.
RS2 is a completely redo.
On everything. Read the posts they are clear.

Well that sort of answers my second question. Though if RSII is in development, why is there so much discussion on it, including "SUBMIT YOUR RSII PHOTOS HERE" kind of things?
Redo? As in... like... why? Why ditch a certain unit look just to re-make it again, with slight differences? What exactly is different in regards to "everything redone"? I've never played RS1, would I need to have played it first in order to appreciate the changes, or would it just seem like two different mods?
Always a good idea to read "Release Threads"
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=386559
And if there is a RELEASE Thread its pretty obvious that it is RELEASED, isnt it ?....
Yeah, no offense bro but "Release Thread" is kind of a dead giveaway...
I -have- read the release thread. What the does that all mean to me. "New campaign map! Bonus features! Fifty eight thousand new faction-specific scripts! Forty new units! Eight new factions!" I've never played RS1, I wouldn't appreciate or even notice any real changes, what does this all mean to me?

If you wont notice any changes why are you asking....DL and play it...
Really...no offense mate but if you did not even find the DL Links in the Release Thread...well..dont know what to say...
I did not play RSI either but that did not hinder me of dl it and give it a try...
Tone and many skinners have redone all factions to a more historical look.
Also shields, landscape, buildings, shields, models newly recreated.
New map work, city icons, and a launcher to decide what faction to play on 1 turn or 0 turn.
Through research, on books, tombs, reports from history, and artwork discovered.
Sparta was a what if faction. We found many archaeological findings on this on all factions.
If you read the previews you will know more. The mod is out.
and we have updates coming soon.

I just... don't understand. I feel as though if RS2 is so much better and such, why should I even bother with RS1?
...You do know downloading RS1 isn't required to play RS2 right? You really don't need to bother with RS1 to enjoy RS2.
I do know. That's the whole point. If RS2 required RS1, I could just easily play RS1, and replace it with RS2.
Why is this thread still open?
I fail to see the point in this discussion.
"By what right does the wolf judge the lion?"
Yeah... Starting to think this guys a troll. The concept of "RS2 is better than RS1" isn't a complex one, so yeah. Trullz.
This isn't an adventure game where you'll lose the back story by not playing RS1. They're two different things. Why did I feed the troll?
Apple close this down.
