Could you tell us how the recruitment system will work in Broken Crescent? -Is there anything innovative or can we expect the same old townguard up-grade after another, in order to unluck each and every unit.

I would love to see a system that allows the player/AI to recruit a wider variation of different units from early on. In vanilla you are stuck with a very slim selection of poor units, nearly till half in the game.

One more thing is that it's a big turn off that you in vanilla and in many mods also, basically can fight through the whole 11th and 12th century without being able to use units, which actually dominated those centuries, due the long (not always too logical) unlock recruitment system.

It would give the gameplay more depth and enjoyment, if a smarter system was developet, which would allow the recruitment of historical units (in it's actual "prime time") and a greater selection, so armys half in the game still wouldn't soley consist of only spearmilitia and mailed knights.

Cheers!

[I failed to find a thread which explains the recruitment system, so I apologize for making a second, if a similar thread already exist.]

Good question. Currently the system is similar to how vanilla works.

But there are some things to consider. Your starting castles will probably be quite well developed when you start off with any faction. Which means leveling up to elites or what not wont take too long. Secondly, you'll have a nice array of starting armies which will have many elite units. Like as KoJ you'll have an experienced set of templars and a few units of elites are jerusalem too (like the jerusalem guard).

Does the arab factions use more Camels than Horses?

what about the AOR ??? I havent rly understood how BC recruitment will work either.
Like i.e , will Byzantines be able to recruit armenian border spearmen if they conquer the Cilician territories?

No, but Mediterranean levies and/or anatolian levies(if they exist), see the levy thread.

No definitely not. Camels have always been and will be a minority.

Well the AOR is different. Each faction has a specified area which it can recruit from. Check the campaign thread.

We've also somewhat lowered the 'climb' of tiers, given the fact that your true levies are located mostly in the cities. What I mean is that it doesn't take as long as it did in Vanilla to get your stuff. We also don't represent such a dramatic change as warfare in 1070 to 1400.

Where it took three tiers to get to armored sergeants in Vanilla, it takes 2 for the Kingdom of Jerusalem. For most factions tier 2 is when you start getting in business, with Ghaznavid Regulars, Armored Sergeants, Jund Spearmen/Harafisha Warband/qaraghulams, and some other stuff I am forgetting.

Muslim Factions get unique recruitment with Slave markets, gaining access in limited locations (Very important cities) to Slave-warriors, as well.

hmm so you guys are saying that in BC it will be easier to develop?

Ok thx mirage ill check that out.

Yes, Ahiga said it perfectly. Castles really don't have any "crap" units in it. Everything out of castle is usually worth something. And many muslim factions will get access to strong cavalry pretty early from slave markets.

It's always good to hear that we won't start with peasant's, wemon and children as our strongest tower of defence!

Anyways please do consider a "smarter" recruitment system, and leave the main development to be religious, economically and educationally buildings. :thumbsup2

Cheers!

Ok well it actually makes sense, castles should provide more professional armies.
btw, Mirage ... i looked in the campaign thread, have you added Adana just beside sis and i saw u added some more settlements. Isnt that to much?

lol.....why should it be to much.....we should be happy for the armenian cities that are included.....also i think the map is well balanced.....

Hey why don't you make the recruiting system dependable on what Smith the Settlement or Castle has... for example if a castle has a leather tanner but no armourer , then they can only recruit units, with leather armour...

this would add a lot of realism to recruiting... maybe nobles could be recruited eitherway, because they could buy armour, but profesional commoners like sword-sergeants or so would be only available if you have a smith that can provide you with chainmails...

:thumbsup2 or :thumbsdow what do you think??

Many of these recruitment theories are nice, but when it comes time to try and implement them, they often begin to fall apart. With 250+ units it's very, very difficult to move over to any radically different system of recruitment. There's 3 or 4 months worth of work in the buildings file that would be excruciatingly painful to scrap.

Are there any female units? That would be cool:D
