I played Syracuse Campaign for 10 hours ago at "Very Hard" Campaign difficulty and "Very Hard" Battle difficulty. I destroyed the Carthage and Rome, earned a sum of over 9000k $. But the Parthia is killing me, they left my allies Egyptian only 2 cities to hold and almost the same thing for the Macedonian. Every time when I played any kind of campaign, I was stop only by the horde people. Stacks and stacks of cataphract make me exhausted. Their nasty horse archers make me wanna kill myself. I thinks dimebagho should fix these unbalanced overpowered faction right away. Anyway to conquer the Hellenistic land back guy? M really pissed right now:disgust::disgust::disgust::disgust::disgust:

Now you know how Crassus felt. :laughter:

My advice is this: (1) Make some anti HA stacks. (2) Send them to capture and hold Nisa. Once you capture their founding monument the fight will get a lot easier. For some advice on how to make anti-HA stacks and more take a look here and here.

(1) Lots of heavy spearmen. Put them in a long line. Heard the enemy cavalry into a corner and kill them.

(2) Even better - lots of spearmen armed with javelins, like Thureophoroi and Thorakitai. Herd the enemy into a corner while throwing volleys of javelins at them and then kill them.

(3) Heavy spearmen plus slingers. Wear the enemy down with the slingers, and engage with the spearmen when they try to attack. You can also try archers but I've always found slingers more effective because their ammo lasts longer.

(4) Fight them in forests. Especially combined with (1) and (2) you will have a huge advantage.

(5) Fight them at bridges. Use phalangites (if you have them) or heavy spearmen to hold the bridge, and any sort of ranged units you like as support.

(6) Fight them in cities - preferably theirs.

P.S. Try playing on H/H rather than VH/VH. XGM is already pretty hard. Playing on VH would drive anyone crazy.

Make armies with either lots of archers and Thorakitai, or make arimes with archers and cavalry. Also, launch major invasions at many points on the map. (To divide and weaken their forces). If you manage to take the Median province, you can make Median cavalry which can tackle cataphracts and use arrows to defeat horse archers.

Thank Dime for yr advise, this is an updating image, the Parthian and nasty Spaniard are taking my beloved Italy, I just defeated another stack of cataphract but my arrow r useless against their amour. I win all of faction when playing as Hard difficulty so VH is a real challenge for me. Spearmen and archer only work when I do it on custom game. Look at 1 specific stack of Parthia. It scared the crap out of me :no::no:

Indeed, upload it. I will try it myself. I am playing on H/H and it's very tough. The battle are okay, I can manage easily, but I just hate the Campaign Map, the armies don't stop.

I will upload it on sunday morning, gonna be fun, m on iphone right now so cant do anything about it. Promise you guy will have it tommorrow

Can't wait to play it today

I bet you gonna give up really soon. Let me review the situation. My main force r attempting to take southern iberia, my force consist of syracurian hoplites phalax and slinger are holding northen italy. Got over 9000000 in the bank cause i use townwatch in every settlement to reduce cost:tongue:

Hmmm, it sounds like it's over, though, we will see. What settings are you playing on? I use the 1 HP system so I Ranged Units become move useful. That might help me. Though, my campaign skill suck. I can't manage an empire if there is a large war. Currently, I am playing new game with GCS at H/H and there is no luck pushing the Seleucid Empire back. So I most likely will lose, but I love a scenario where the opponent keeps attacking non-stop and I have to hold them out.

I play both very hard option for the battle n campaign and 1 hitpoint system. H/H level r no match for me, when i play at the bactrian, i even reached gaul and only carthage left, lol anyway I love the challenge of VH level. Dont worry about my campaign, the parthian will never attack carthage, just keep italy save

OH MY GOD!!! Not even Seleucid empire was that bad...

112 BC.... welll.... I'm sorry but even on VH/VH your empire is, according to my experience, to small right now. You should have a way larger empire.

It dosn't matter it depends on what you have installed.

I have two XGM installations. One is on BI, the other on ALX. But one is installed with 2hp, the other on 1hp. So I need to know before I try playing it.

Slightly, yes slightly OT. The title of this thread makes me think of this scene from South Park.

edit: bummer not working.

Back on topic, I've never, never ever seen Parthia that big, quite amazing.

I gave it a try and there is rampant corruption among my generals and I have no Military worth mentioning.I'm just about to launch a offensive on Iberia and I'm about to conduct a Purge of My Family Tree.:laughter:
I'm also using 0 turn and increased movement so i'ts pretty awesome.:thumbsup2
