In this most noble chamber, only men of rank or privilege may speak.
Freedmen and commoners may only sit here by invitation of the King.
In any other case, freedmen must use the House of Commons.

Cardinal Kendall marched into the crowded house. Both the lords and commoners had assembled in the rather small chamber and they all nervously awaited the Cardinals decision. Tristan removed his red cloak and handed it over to one of his bodyguards before he began to speak.

' Lords, your graces, sirs. I am here to announce my support to England's new king, this king has been chosen by God through me and his people. The decision was an easy one, the heir of the late King Timothy is of course the rightful ruler of our nation, therefore, William Clinton, i support thy most rightful claim to the throne. '

The Cardinal paused for a moment, then shouted.

' God Save the King!'

Pendragon, from the back of the room, began walking down to the floor, joining the new King and Cardinal. He spoke loudly, his bellowing voice quieting all in the room.

"As you well know, I was one of King O'Hagan's greatest supporters! I am Duke of Ireland, and it's people respect me for I am a fair lord, and an Irishman. They realize that I will never treat them as an English lord would, and so their loyalty is to me. And my loyalty is to King William, as is the Irish people's!!! GOD SAVE THE KING!"

From the corridor Abigail entered the room in her finest clothes. Stepping into the center of the room, infront of the Cardinal, the Duke, and the Newly crowned King. She spoke in a calm if determined voice
'Greetings my lords and laidies. Before you throw me out I think I shall introuce myself. I am Abigail McDougal, daughter of King Gregory. Shortly before my father's death, for the good of this Kingdom he named Timothy O'Hagan to replace me as first in line to the throne. And with King O'Hagan's death and the fact that he never named a heir to the throne, the line now falls to me. So I politly request that that which is mine be given to me.'
She narrowed her eyes looking at the various nobles in the room looking for reactions.

William chuckled softly as he slowly stood.

Sorry, honey, but King Timothy named me his heir. During his brief regency, Bernard Rutherford also honoured that request.

The Cardinal has acknowledged the validity of my claim, as have many of the realm's nobility. With all due respect to your father, you're a bit late.

'A bit late? You have not even been crowned yet. And before now I could not have taken the throne for I was not old enough. Tis now I am of age I wish for my right. You may have your claim but no doubt all the nobles in this room have a claim, whther it is valid or not is not the question. For my claim is above that of yours, I am heir to the current line. You are naught more than a theif taking advantage of this turmoil to that which is not yours to take that which you do not deserve. To take the crown for your own. And any noble in here who placed true loyalty to my father should support his heir, for if not you insult his memory and show your true substance.'

William attempted to stifle his laughter, but was not entirely successful. He turned to the others.

Gentlemen of the English nobility... who would you rather have as your one true leader and absolute monarch? The woman who stands before you, or myself?

'Yes who? The man who laughs at the rightful ruler or the woman who by birth right deserves the throne, and would no doubt marry a strong individual to aid her in leading once she takes it? He fails to have any counter to my truths and so steeps to the lowly manner of insulting my sex. Do you want such a man on the throne? It takes more than just a strong arm to rule England, it requires a strong mind aswell...'
She gazed coldly at William, still waiting for a response from the nobles in the room

The Duke, standing beside William, was extremely surprised.

"William, I myself am not so sure anymore. I thought you were the only claimant of the throne. However, I do not wish this to be a conflict. Young lady, how old are you?"

"The whole world will laugh at us for having a female leader. If the pope would actually allow it. No offense Abigail, your father was a great man and important man for me. But I don't think you are strong enough to make England proud in the world, if you were even able to keep all nobles in England under your command."

Abigail now turned her eyes on Ciaran, the cold glint receding from her eyes a bit
'Sixteen, Lord Pendragon. You and my father were good friends were you not? Think of Gregor and his since of justice and duty. I am of the same blood, even if I am not a man who is to say a woman can not lead? What more I have already said I shall marry once on the throne so if for some reason you, any of you think that I would not have the strength of will for this honor, there shall be a strong man by my side to support me.'

But would he rule or would you? If you intend on becoming a queen regnant, as Edwardson has said, we will be the laughing stock of the world. Your father was a great leader, though he and I didn't quite see eye to eye at times. But I would think that he would want the best for England above the best of his own family. And it is my firm belief that I am the best option for England right now.

'Well of coarse you do. It would be stupid of you not to think your hte best for England. But I too think I am the best thing for England. It is best for England that someone of royal blood take the ruling position. You all act like I shall be ruling England singlehandedly, I know few in the world have respect for such a powerful woman, so ofcoarse I shall need a husband to rule beside me as King. You all will still have a King to look for leadership from and the royal blood shall remain on the throne. I am the best for England, not William here.'

Ciaran smiled, she had spirit.

"Indeed. In fact, your father and I lived together for a year. Now, I have a compromise."

Ciaran turned to Abigail.

"Young lady, you must face the fact that you have no army, no title, no rank of sort, and you area young girl. William, in turn, could simply make you disappear if he wished it. So, my proposal is this. I will give you a title, and fief in Ireland. William will name you his heir. By giving you a title, it ensures that he will indeed name you his heir, for fear of rebellion."

Ciaran, his hearing sharp as a tack, turned to the location of the snort, and saw Richard muttering.

"Have you something to share, Richard?"

Pendragon gave him a cold look.

"What say you both?"

'Hmm it seems acceptable, though, must it be in Ireland? I would much prefer my grandfather's old land of Warwickshire if that is possible.'
Abigail merely returned the stare with a bright smile
'And I suggest, William, that you turn you gaze elsewhere now if you wish to keep that expression on your face.'

Ciaran looked to William.

"I am willing to give you a fief in Ireland. I believe it is best, as you will be under my full protection. And I am not sure if William would be willing to give you Warwickshire."

William rubbed his chin for a moment.

Warwickshire, you say... it may be possible. Would you still want to be named my heir?
