Where do you think?
Dunno if anyone posted this before, but I thought it would be useful to have one thread instead of alot of small ones.

My wishes about NTW:
-a better AI
-less CTDs and bugs (of course)
-bigger map; from the vid from Moscow, the map didn't seem bigger and that's a pity.
-better diplomacy, with more features, such as trading resources, demanding an ally to stop a war, etc.
-unique units, not with same textures and icons:thumbsdow. This means no generic units (well, just for minors from some zones: ex: German minors with their generic units, etc.)
-more historical battles, including: Austerlitz, Waterloo, Borodino, Trafalgar, Leipzig, Salamanca, Pyramids.
-add the Romanian factions (Wallachia and Moldavia) and Montenegro in this game, plz
-release the modding tools soon after feb 2010 and give some more tips and tutorials about it.:)

If we can't make a lot of small threads for our wishes and suggestions, of what use is this forum then?:tongue:
It's not like there's a lot to discuss - apart from what we want - prior to release...

Fine. I wish ( and I know it will never come true) the following:

- Smart AI on the campaign map. Offering logical alliances, supporting your troops in land and naval warfare, using all existing armies to maximum ect.

- Better types of units ballance. More powerfull cavalryl, artillery with more crew, weaker infantry.

- Battles that would actually look like line tactics. Infantry mooving by step instead of running huge distances, soldiers more tight in formations,not that great casualties inflicted by musket fire, proper skirmish order instead of cattle heards. Slower cavalry,which would use blunt weapons rather then firearms. AI holding a line, using cavalry in masses, concentrating artillery fire and trying to gain key positions.

- Improvements in naval battles. No anchoring, taking measures to make boarding the same rate ship possible.Being able to use other infantry units instead of marines.

- Improvements in siege battles. I'd prefer having no sieges at all rather then see ninja-grenadiers, ninja-jaegers and ninja-dismounted dragoons ( at least there are no ninja-horses and ninja-guns. Thanks God!) making walls totally unnecesarry. Implementation of sea-to-land battles in case land sieges will look not that awfull.

- Correct units appearance. Correct uniformes - not those "regiment of Officers of grenadiers a pied"( whole unit having golden epaulettes) seen on early screenshots. More details - water bottles(dunno how to translate but you'll get what I mean),overcoats, cartridge boxes for every( EVERY) unit,carabines for cavalry ect. Units actually wearing overcoats and covered shakos during autumn and winter battles. Mud and blood on uniformes of units having taken part in battle not long ago.

- Additional flag bearers with randomly selected batallion flags for each unit. Flueters, more drummers, more officers per company ( on the flanks, at the rear). Drum and fluete melodies performend while infantry's marching.

- More smoke.

a good AI in battle and strategic map.
a good and complex diplomacy.
a good and complex tree tech,if the campaign is long,because a tree tech is necessary if the campaing have 50 years minimun,if the campaign have few years the tree tech is not necessary in the campaing,in my opinion i think that in napoleon totalwar the tree tech is not necessary and could be implemented other thing in the campaign.
30 faction minimun in the campaing map with many historical units and unique units for factions.
america and asia is not necessary in the campaing map.
1 week per turn.
atmospheric conditions affecting the missed atrition and the supply lines, cold,heat,etc.
europa,north africa and middle east is necessary only in the campaing map.
historical units types with correct historical uniforms and if is possible with his historical name of regiment with limits in contruction and city.
historical generals and prominent persons,for example,if in a campaign with france you have 7 armies with 7 historical general change general or if you create a new army,you have a stock of historical generals.
historical events and events in the campaing for a inmersive campaign.
scripts in the campaign for a inmersive campaing.
videos in the campaing for the events.
a correct strategic map for simulate better the line supplies and atrition with all historical provinces in every country.
a system of atrition and supply lines for simulate the bags armies and the cut of supplies lines as napoleon done in ulm.
correct and historical situation of cities,frontiers of countries,regions,provinces etc in the strategic map.
massive battles in the map battle.
historical kings and tree family.
historical formations and tactics.
To interact with other countries with diplomacy and politics with varied options.
more slots for armies and troops for unit.

I would like real trenches and field fortifications. That would really spice up the tactical side of things.

I'd also like the ability to build these trenches in real-time--having each soldier with a spade and a nice little animation to go into it.

Of course, that brings up a lot of pathfinding issues so this probably won't happen.

not sieges in napoleon totalwar,the sieges were very rare in the napoleonic epoch.
There is no historical battle of sieges in this epoch, they all were in classic battlefields.
waterloo,borodino,eylau,friendland,austerlitz,wagram etc not sieges.
in spain some sieges in cadiz or zaragoza only.

There where many sieges in the Napoleonic Wars, what about Toulon and Genoa, there was about 10 major sieges during the Napoleonic Wars.

Anyway, I wish for an arse kicking AI
Historical Accuracy
Sieges with trenches and redoubts and ladders.
And an awesome AI
awesome AI
awesome AI
awesome AI
and did I mention an awesome AI?

10 mayor sieges,where?.
in the napoleonic epoch the sieges were not usual,the big battles in opened field and he war of movements was the usual thing,the sieges were anachronistic.
and if CA does that,napoleon totalwar are will only a game based on the siege as all previous games of the serie totalwar.
in my opinion the current strategic map style of napoleon totalwar is not correct for the napoleonic epoch.
this has been demonstrated in the disaster of empire game.
the clumsy CA should note this and change the strategic map,to avoid excessive sieges

A Napoleon game is simply begging to have a 'family tree' in it, so that players can use the immortal phrase "Not tonight Josephine" :cool:

Sieges only in spain: Cadiz,Zaragoza,Gerona,Badajoz, Ciudad Rodrigo, San Sebastian, La Coruña and others that I don't remember.
In Germany Hamburgo. The first important battle of Napoleon was the siege of Toulon. Althought the most important battles weren't sieges there were lots of them in Napoleonics wars.

My only wish is:
- Better than Empire: Total War.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an E:TW hater - I do like it. It's just that I felt it wasn't as good as Rome or Medieval 2. I would absolutely love it if I get the same amount of enjoyment out of N:TW that I did with those two games.

well, the majority of the sieges were in spain and where there were only guerrilla warfares it was in spain, though in rusia used tactics of harassment they were not guerrilla warfares.
The sieges were given so much in spain by the from Numantia resistance of the spanish people while in other nations the population wacht impassive the events as in russia.
They used the tactics of burnt land it it does not want to say that these tactics were usual in all the nations as the sieges.
the sieges were very rare in the napoleonic epoch and alone I do not say it, it is said by the books of history and historians.
besides the siege ended in failure for the attacker, was not a good tactical and diverted many resources and soldiers, sieges were not fashionable and were once.
for every famous siege, the majority in spain there are 10 famous battles.
there was some siege in the campaign of russia,in the 100 days,in austerlitz etc?
waterloo,austerliz,eylau,friendland,borodino etc,all famousos battles.

Why so? TW is rewriting history. And a siege isn't neccersary one with fort walls.

My wishlist:

1. More realistic and historical based military tactic, use of weapons and troop units.
2. New basic squads strength (infantry battalions, cavalry squadrons, specialised companies, atrillery batteries) more complex tactical order and applicable units groups for regiments, brigades, divisions, army corpses and general commanders present on battlefields.
3. More places for battles and buildings, less useless elements on maps.
4. Playable France, Britain, Austria, Russia, Prussia and few nations wich can service for playable factions: Dutch (Holland), Dannes (Danmark and Norway), Italian states (Piedmont and Genoa, Kingdom of Italy, Etruria and Rome, Kingdom of Naples and Sicily, Kingdom of Sardinia), Poles (Legions, Duchy of Warsaw and few other units), Germans from Rhine Confereracy (Baden, Bavaria, Berg, Frankfourt, Hessen, Saxony, Wurttemberg, Westphalia etc.) and Hanover, Brunswick, Swiss, Portuguese.
5. Powers in decline: Spain, Turkey (Ottoman Empire), Sweden-Finland and six special sectors for small nations: Copenhagen (Denmark-Norway), Amsterdam (Holland), Lisbon (Portugal), Zurich (Switzerland), Dresden (Saxony), Hanover (North Germany).
6. All provinces with properly located border lines and correctly selected capitals or provincial main towns.
7. Generals, marshals and commander-in-chief as special units present on battlefields, and theirs short profiles with historical notes.
8. More troop units, include few of these from small nations which could optionally service as ally, auxiliary, legionary, mercenary troops units and defenders of special sectors e.g. Albanian, Egyptians, Danish, Dutch, German, Polish, Portuguese, Scots, Swiss and other multi national regiments in foreign service.
9. More specialised units: sappers, pioneers, pontoniers, military and supply trains, ammunition horse wagons, wooden and pontoon bridges carried on four wheels wagons and few field works, and fortifications e.g. redoubts, fleches, trenches for better sieges.
10. More realistic damage system, improvements in fire range, less accuracy for all fire arms. Correct types of firing for infantry and cavalry units. Cavalry should prefer charge with cold steel weapons than fire arms.
11. Correct units’ uniforms and theirs placement.
12. Grenadiers should not throw any hand grenade.
13. Better AI ;), more efficient economy and diplomacy.
PS
During Rewolutionary and Napoleonic Wars were many famous siges e.g.
* Tulon 1793,
* Mainz 1794,
* Mantua 1796-97,
* Acre, Mantua 1799,
* Magdeburg, Breslau, Glogau, Danzig, Graudenz, Kolberg, Kosel (Prussia and Poland) 1807,
* Zaragoza 1808-1809
* Gerona 1809
* Cadiz 1810, Cuidad Rodrigo 1810
* Badajoz 1811, 1812
* Danzig, Modlin, Zamosc (Poland), San Sebastian, Pampeluna (Spain), 1813
* Lerida 1810, 1813-1814
and many others too.

I so dearly, dearly want to see...PLEASE!

some way to sort units within a stack. I hate the random assortment of crap I am presented with in empire. takes 5 minutes to figure out how many line infantry vs militia I have in a given army...feckin nightmare. FIX THIS!

An undo button. I cant count how many times i've gone to move an army from pt. A to Pt. B and the computer decided to go by way of point x, y, z. that move just cost me three moves to get to where I was trying to go in the first place and short of cheating, there's nothing I can do about it. Fix this!

As many people say, better campaign and battle AI. I realize that's always the goal, but battle AI in particular is rotten. It just doesn't act the way a human or general of the day would have done. This ruins the authenticity. And isn't that the point? fix this!

diplomacy. still. A nation on the verge of utter annihilation should accept terms, very nearly no matter what. certainly protectorate status...

Edit:

Sieges are the most painful thing ever. I avoid even trying to play them at all costs. but its sometimes tough to lure a country into an open field battle. So I give up and autoresolve the siege battles. Make these fun, or make these not a part of the game.

I know that just pressing Backspace or clicking the "stop" button should work in ETW.

No I'm not one who likes criticizing games efore they are released, or placing impossible demands on a game company that can never be fulfilled, but ideally, here's my list of things I'd like to see that have not been mentioned.

1. Possibly a system with more than 20 units. Ideally one would have a complete reworking of the mechanics to include divisions, brigades and corps, a complete army organization, not the nebulous forces we have with empire.

2. POWs. So many times there were massive surrenders like Ulm, rearguard at Leipzig, French at the end of Waterloo, etc. Also maybe a system of prisoner exchange, just a thought.

3. Fewer casualties. In battle, when an enemy army lost 40% casualties or more, that was a decisive defeat. In total war, armies lose 95% of their strength in almost every battle.

4. Not having enemy generals charge like a front-line unit. Losing commanders was a rare thing, but in ETW it happened more often than not.

5. Camps of some kind. I would like to be able to launch a surprise attack, and the battle begins with the enemy still in their tents. Then the player or AI has to form up all his units, which would be difficult. This happened in many battles in the Napoleonic wars, in the time of ETW (like Trenton) or after Napoleon (Chancellorsivlle and others). Also just having camps and field hospitals on field would be neat.

6. A fog of war system. Not the usual RTS one where you only can see where your troops actually are, but where you can only see what your troops can. This makes reconnaissance key. This also allows for maneuvers like:

A. Surprise attacks. I can never launch surprise attacks without the all knowing AI to send units to stop me. It's so fake.

B. Reverse slopes. This helped Wellington win at Waterloo, but currently in total war, it's impossible.

C. Ambushes. They can still be done with the hiding in the woods feature, but once they move, even if still under cover, the enemy from miles off will know.

That's about all I can think of that hasn't been said.

I'm not tooo fussy about many things, but when it comes to the final big campaign (and the others too, come to that...) I'd like to see historic generals and Marshals such as Ney, Davout, Victor, Soult; as they all held highly important roles within the French Empire.

I wonder if the Americas and India will be included again.... After all, India was the aim of the Egypt Campaign and was a great source of income for the British. They should at least be represented in some way.

Yes it will be fine if were great comanders will in this game. I would like few other comanders and units which serviced in foregin service e.g. Poles, Germans, Italians, Duchies, Swiss etc. and their comanders as like Poniatowski, Dabrowski, Kniaziewicz, Wrede, Lecchi, Bernadotte.

Yeah, that would be great.

Wide range of generals etc..

Oooh, The involvement of naval landings.... In the real time battle map.

Disembarking troops from ships and assaulting naval fortifications...

Or slightly more likely; Coastal battles where naval units can take some sort of action (Could be alike Napoléon's lifting the naval siege of Toulon) against land units and vice-versa.

My wishes for NTW:
Real/Major big city fights! (Paris, Vienna, London)
More individual Units!
More provinces!
Expantion to Asia! (Japan, China)
End Time 1900!

I doubt that the latter is going to happen...

My history might be a little hazy, but I'm fairly certain that Napoleon didn't live for over 100 years and never had plans of invading Japan or China....

*End sarcasm*

Real/Major big city fights! (Paris, Vienna, London)
I was just playing ETW the other day, as i was conquering London, on the campaign map, London in ETW is a medium star fort with 4 buildings in it, remember, its London we are talking about, I pretty sure London had more then 4 buildings in 1708. :P

Maybe they were still rebuilding after the Great Fire of London 1666?? Counts as realism!!

4 buildings in London though does sound shoddy stuff.

Yep the whole city thing in ETW is one of the worst aspects of the game IMO. On the battle map the buildings details and lay out are dire, hoping with NTW, CA have made an effort to improve things(quite alot).
