ATI Driver and General Help Thread

As far as I know the game (or at least the demo) currently cannot run the battles with 4800 cards: is this true, and if so, is there a fix available?

Uh. No.
I run the game with a 4870 x2 card just fine. Not sure about the earlier 4800 series though.

im running two 4890's everything on ultra. 8x and 16x, smoke and blood mod, darth commander mod with large unit size, and dont have any issues, getting 30 - 40 fps.
The drivers im using are the 8.5???. Tried to install 9.3 but they dont want to work with my 4890, hoping the 9.4 will tho. They out yet? must check.

I am running ETW with a 4850 and it is running fine with the 9.3 drivers.

4830 here, runs great.

Thats pretty dumb they created a thread for ALL ati posts. Good luck finding anything in the future, yikes.

Anyways, anyone have opinions on going from 9.2 to 9.3? Did it help at all with anything?

I did not notice a significant change in going from 9.2 to 9.3.

Use the search function - it's quite useful. There were multiple threads being created for the same topics over and over again (mainly nvidia ones).

At least with these stickied threads people that are willing to read or search may be able to find a solution sooner than the ones that post a new thread.

Everytime I try to enter a battle with a lot of units, the game just crashes... Sapphire HD 4870 512mb. I play on Ultra with no other issues... Catalyst 9.3

I have a 4870 and i can't run it on ultra. Should it? Iam running with the 9.3 drivers.

I have a 4870 and I'm running it on ultra. It originally had black flickering when i tried to play battles in ultra but i went into the catalyst control center and clicked on Use application settings in the Anti-Aliasing and it works fine now.

So, what is best? ATI Radeon or Nvidia?`:)

The top end ATI cards appear to offer more 'bang for your buck' than the Nvidia cards. I've read that for top end performance the Nvidia is better - but you have to pay more for it.

The problems with graphics cards is that next week or next month something will be released that is better (any maybe cheaper) than what you buy today.

I used ATI cards up to the time when they were bought out by AMD. They disappeared from sight for a while. When I bought my latest desktop (with a pair of GTX280s in SLI mode) someone I work with mentioned these latest ATI cards.

I just installed catalyst 9.4 and everything is the same as before.

Hmm maybe you could help me im running a 4870x2 2gb. But cant seem to play battles with AA enabled. I set the game up with AA at 4x, 8x or 16x and the battle loading screen hangs up at the end of loading. I set AA to none in game and then set CCC to game controled and the battles load up with no problems.
I have tried every driver set from 8.5 to the latest set. This make the battles ugly as sin with all the jaggys.

How do I know for sure that empires is utilizing my crossfire. I recently installed C.O.H. and it did a system check and told me I had 1gb of video memory, the thing is I have two HD4890's at 1 gb each so shouldn't it of showed 2gb of video memory? I have crossfire enabled in ccc. This led me to wonder if I have actualy 2gb reconised by empires. I do have a second monitor plugged into my top card next to my primary monitor, it is enabled as monitor 3, If I connect it to the second card so it displays as monitor 2 it will disable crossfire, also after seeing C.O.H. only reconise 1gb instead of 2gb, I disabled the second monitor and it still reconised only 1gb. How do I make sure I am using 2gb even tho crossfire is enabled in ccc.

You don't double amount of video RAM when using CF or SLI. You pretty much double video processing power but not RAM. These technologies create frame buffer which is duplicated on two GPUs'. Hopefully in the future they will come up with something smarter.

can I playing empire on radeon 9600?

Yes, but the question is "at what settings"? I'm afraid mid to low only. ETW is very resource hungry, especially for GPU.

Mid to low on a GeForce 9600 maybe. But with a Radeon, he won't be able to run it at all. It'a a very dated mid-range card. When Rome came out, I had a 9800pro and it could run the game on mid to high. As for the 9600, it's likely having only 128 MB of GRam, and maybe not even shader 2.0. Also, if the rest of his system is similar, I strongly recommend an upgrade.

There is a problem currently with setting aa and af in the control panel and playing etw with catalyst drivers, at least with some people. You're just going to have to set them in game for now and leave your drivers at use application settings. It runs fine if you do this.

ive had a display issue with ATI.. where random colored shapes are everywhere on the screen except the HUD during the campaign map and battles. ive read stuff about some older drivers working, but i have not gotten any of them to work
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics card
i have tried 6 drivers, including 8.11, 8.12, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, and 9.4, all of them have same problem

heres a picture of the problem

EDIT: oh, and the demo worked perfectly fine for me.. im not sure what messed it up

EDIT 2: fixed it by uninstalling drivers and reinstalling the display and audio drivers and not Catalyst Control center, then i went to options ingame and put it on pixel shader 2, and it worked.

The Game settings are all on low

My graphics card is a ATI Radeon 3650 512MB DDR2 - i think i have fully updated the drivers but im not sure, can anyone share any light on the situation and wether this is happened too you?

ATI Catalyst 9.5 has been released, if you are experiencing issues with Empire Total War and have an ATI graphics card, you should try to see if this newly released driver resolves your issues. These drivers support the HD2000 series and newer.

Catalyst 9.5 has been released for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The changes include performance improvements in Unigine and Battleforge, a WHQL-certified driver for Windows 7, ATI Stream improvements, and a number of bug fixes.
