Hi Candelarius!

Since I can't PM you, I'll post my question here^^

I'm currently working on a mod for Kingdoms and always when I'm adding a new unit the game crashes and I don't know why.

1st: I add the EDU-entry
2nd: I add the models in the modeldb
3rd: I increase the number 701 by one.

But whether I do it or not, the game has always an unexpected error at the start.

The modeldb syntax script didn't find anything and I just copy the entry from one of the Kingdoms Campaigns.

I use file_first= true and I'm working with it from a modfolder.

Hy I have a big problem :
Installed medieval 2 + kingdoms +patch 1.5
Installed retrofit 1.0 in e:\medieval2\mods
Installed GUAM in e:\medieval 2
Installed the permanent forts in e:\medieval 2
The game works , I fight a custom battle where I use polish guard cavalry , then I start a campaign with hre, then I quit campaign map and then I want to start a new custom battle but I don't find the polish guard. It is normal or I had only the sensation I used polish guard ?
Another thing :I knew there were clerics for denmark but when i want to play a custom battle i don't find them . It' s normal?

Seriously, though, I'm not sure what your issue is. I would love to take the time to walk you through it, but, problems like this are hard to track down and I honestly simply do not have the time to help you. Godspeed, my friend, I hope you figure it out.

True, and I would love to help...but, I made this mod a year and a half ago, and to be honest, I would need to relearn a lot of what I did to make this mod at this point....and I simply do not have the time to help people make their own mods. My best suggestion is post for help in the general modding forum.

I had a similar problem too when adding units to GUAM, and the reason was very simple: my game needed to be unpacked.

If that's not it, maybe you're not adding the correct #s to the modeldb; i.e., when you add a new unit plus it's upgrade, you have to add 2 to the modeldb, not one. But judging by your rep and how long you've been around, I doubt it's a n00bie mistake like that :thumbsup2

The only other thing I can think of is that in the steps you listed, you didn't mention adding new models or textures in their respective folders, which you would need to do if adding completely new units that didn't use pre-existing models. I'm assuming that the units you're adding use models already in the game, but if not, that would explain why you're getting an unspecified error. But that's a n00bie mistake too, and you look like an experienced modder, so I doubt it's that.

How very mysterious...
 
Please note:

1. Your game installation does not need to be unpacked for this mod to work.
2. You cannot add any additional units to this mod, it is already at the unit max.
3. If you are just in need of general modding help, please post all questions in the general modding forum, and not in this specific mod's thread.

I was just wondering if somebody could give me links to download the latest version of this mod and everthing needed to play it, oh and does this mod basically put all the frations into one game insted of them being in seperate launchers like kingdoms?

I want to ask u when i take a settlement with a hospitaliers guild in it and i already have a templar guild will i be able to upgrade the hospitaliers guild ?

Not sure (this would be a vanilla M2TW question, since I didn't change anything about those guilds), but, I think each guild tree is managed by the game engine seperately.
 
It doesnt work i played 30 turns and made everything that gives st john guild points and didnt get the major hospitalier guild :(
edit: is there a way to use both guilds in 1 faction, i made such a thread but no1 answers so i figured ill ask in here :D

I don't remember...I think each faction gets one crusader guild tree. So if you select Templars, you are stuck with Templars for the game. I could be wrong. But check out the official manual or the official forums. I didn't change anything to do with guilds in my mod. Good luck.

we've all had that urge to take Rome from the Pope ;)

it's kinda nice having it under your control and making the Papal States the weakest faction that is still alive

So far i've killed 3 popes, because mine my cardinal wasn't elected so destroyed his armies twice in Italy and now we have a french Pope, which i hope he doesn't bug me off or he dies too lol.

I am preparing to send an armoured cavalry against the mongols now and soon il be preparing an expedition to the New World.

One more thing how long does it take upgrade the general's bodyguard to the late version???

You can't, it's a vanilla bug that sadly cannot corrected.

Thank you, but, I didn't make the faction leader models, they are vanilla models from Kingdoms. I simply added them to the Grand Campaign. Regardless, this mod is complete, ie, no more updates or editions will ever be produced. I have the mod exactly where I wanted it to be. Your input is appreciated though. :)

That Vanilla bug is so silly and yet they still didn't fix even after those updates :(

Is there away to replace to early bodyguard with the late bodyguard in the main campaign, because i would like to fight later on with my modern army especially in the americas against the Aztecs??
 
You have to manually edit the game files to do so. It will take considerable time, energy, and know-how for you to make it happen. I don't have the time, unfortunately, to walk you through it. Maybe you could post for some help in the general modding forum. You could also just play the Americas Campaign...
 
will this mod work with vista?

Well yes, of course it will. All M2TW mods should work fine with Vista as long as you install it correctly. Make sure you install into your Medieval Total War root folder, as Vista may change the path name from the default path the mod installer uses. Works fine for me, I have 64bit Vista.

Interesting, I haven't had a CTD report for this mod in over a year. I'm guessing you've installed something wrong or something, so, please answer the following questions honestly:

  • Do you have a retail (non crack) version of M2TW and Kingdoms installed?
  • Do you have the Kingdoms 1.5 patch installed?
  • Do you have the Retrofit Mod 1.0 installed?
  • Do you have any other mods installed?
  • Did you modify the game in any way?
  • Did you install the Retrofit Mod 1.0 over a fresh, clean installation of Kingdoms?
  • Have you ever had any other mods or tweaks installed in this same installation?
  • Have you ever removed any other mods or tweaks from this same installation?
  • Do you have Windows XP or Windows Vista?
  • If Vista, did you manually install the Retrofit Mod and this mod into the correct directory, since the default installer directory may not be valid for Vista folder structures?
  • Do you have the latest version of my mod installed?
  • Are you getting your CTD in custom battles or campaigns?
  • What units, if applicable, are you loading your custom battle with?
  • Please give details about the circumstances of your CTD: Faction, units, turn number, etc.
  • You mentioned any time you save or load a turn: What faction? Does this happen in a new game? Can you repeat the error? If so, how?

Also, from your log, this mount type "Mount_Adv_French_Barded_Horse" cannot be found. That's because that model does not exist in my mod. The model is associated with mount type "french heavy horse". That mount type is not used by any units in my mod. So, the game engine should never be trying to find that model. Because it is trying to find that model, I'm guessing you must have a descr_mount.txt or export_descr_unit.txt file in your Retrofit folder that does not belong to my mod. This leads me to think you have some other mod installed along with my mod. Could that be the case? :hmmm:

Since nobody else has ever reported this type of error before, and I've had nearly 20,000 downloads, and since I've never experienced a single CTD with my mod, I need you to be very clear and honest in your answers if I'm to diagnose your problem. And what I mean by "honest" is not that you would have any motivation to lie, but that sometimes people don't bother to actually go through all the reporting steps when reporting bugs because they think that "oh, that other mod I installed can't be causing the problem", and instead say "oh no, I don't have anything else installed, never have". After looking at their files sometimes I find they did...but they "forgot". That's why I always encourage total honestly from my fans when reporting bugs so I can better help them. ;)

Hmm, well first of all I think it may have something to do with me tinkering with those dastardly pope's excomm missions, that's probably my number one suspicion. :whistling However, reinstalling the original descr_missions.txt, did not have any effect. Keep in mind that I've played the game for a decent 54 turns, and I was beating France and Scotland senslessly, so the excomm mission would've have come up way before I've started to have that CTD. And I really hope that that was not the problem, since I could no way go back to playing Medieval II and have to deal with the pope.

And my other suspicion is my installation of SS6. Ever since I've instaled it on, retrofit has been acting kinda funny. (and I absolutely disliked, I know what you mean what you talked overly bloated mods) Like the banners of all the kingdoms, including the rebels have changed to the ones that are used in SS. And some other things, I forget exactly what they were.

A bit more detail about my save game: I'm playing as England, I've bribed off the pope to almost the max. I've just went on a crusade in this turn and I've tried canceling but the error's still there.
 
Sorry to say, but, if you have installed any other mods, or tinkered with the mod at all, I can't help you. Any number of things could have caused this CTD to crop up. The Stainless Steel Mod does indeed install files outside it's own sub-folder, and therefore it is entirely possible that some artifact from SS6 is interrupting my mod. If you really want to play my mod and have an entirely stable experience, you'll need to uninstall SS6, revert your M2TW:Kingdoms installation to vanilla (ie, remove any SS6 artifacts that my have been installed outside the SS6 mod folder), uninstall the Retrofit Mod, delete any non-vanilla sub-mod folders, reinstall the Retrofit Mod, and then re-install my own mod. After that, my mod will work perfectly. I have played just about every faction from start to finish without a single CTD, and have yet to locate a non-installation related bug with my mod nor has anyone else.

Candelarius - Just wanted to say excellent mod! I've always had an aversion to installing mods despite being an avid gamer...but I decided to make an exception (first time ever!) to help tide me over until Empire is released. I've been playing your mod with the Retrofit and absolutely love it. It adds a whole new dynamic to the Crusades portion of the Grand Campaign and really breathes fresh-life into the game. Your attention to detail graphically and in unit-descpritions is outstanding. Since I haven't ever installed one before, I also spent a lot of time reading the first 5 or 6 pages of this thread to put my fears at ease. It's really nice of you to spend so much time replying to people to help them with issues, correcting bugs, etc. ANYWAY...great job and thank you!!! :thumbsup2
