Na, I thought it is long established Warhammer is somewhere in the Webway, in a similar situation as Commorragh. The better question is why Chaos Gods have not sent in Chaos Space Marines to power kill everything in Warhammer Fantasy; it seems Chaos seems having some sore of agreement not to, which is why I said Warhammer Fantasy is probably just your weekly Saturday afternoon game for Chaos.

Man I was rooting for Nagash to pimp slap everything and be a cool Chaos god.

Frikin Chaos man, why must they win?

Also Skaven decided they were actually Tyranids and Invaded EVERYWHERE AT ONCE. Jesus.. How did they even .. They pulled down the Dwarves, The Lizardmen, The Empire, The Bretts and all the random little humie kingdoms at the same time. And then they totally on purpose blew up the moon and almost killed everything.

Way to go Skaven. Hope you never return.

This pretty much confirms what I've always thought. The Warhammer world was way too hostile for the Good Factions to exist as they did. If the Imperium found the warhammer world it would have been labeled a Chaos-infected deathworld and Exsterminatus'd without much second thought.

It is either Hornrat or Nagash would win now, although it seems Hornrat is relating with Chaos, so victory of Hornrat = victory of Chaos?

So, Ulysses, would you please provide me with a summary of what the frakk is going on? I used to like WFB but then I discovered 40K and never looked back. My small High Elf army is collecting the dust somewhere...

Nagash is no more than dust now. And the big 4 Chaos Gods don't treat the horned rat with much respect now.

Here is a summary book by book (Over the next few posts):

    Book 1: Nagash

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Starts off with some apocalyptic events happening all over the world: Daemonic invasions in Ulthuan and Lustria. A Skaven invasion of Tilea and Estallia. The Ogre Kingdoms all but destroyed by volcanoes. Cathay under attack by the Hung. Naggaroth under attack by Valkia the Bloody and a giant chaos army. Kislev is overrun by Chaos. The Empire is beset by growing hordes of beastmen. Sylvannia and the undead are planning the resurrection of Nagash. Bretonnia is in the midst of civil war. Archaon, Lord of the End Times is mustering the largest army seen since the coming of Chaos.

Story starts with Arkhan the Black and Mannfred von Carstein gathering up artefacts (And divine people) to be used in a ritual to bring back Nagash. They sack a monastery in Bretonnia, destroy a Skaven stronghold (And steal the Fellblade) and ransack an Empire city.

While this is happening a High Elf army led by Eltharion the Grim makes its to Sylvannia to stop the ritual and rescue the daughter of the High Elf Everqueen and Prince Tyrion. The Everchild is one of three divine beings to be sacrificed in the ritual, the other two being the Grand Theologist Volkmar, and the Fay Enchantress. The battle at the ritual site is horrific, and the High Elves fail in their goal and are all killed. Nagash is resurrected and begins his plan to thwart the Chaos Gods. To do this he plans on becoming the embodiment of the Wind of Death magic. His first attempt to do this fails and he is weakened. To restore his power he plans to steal the power of the Nekkaharan god of the dead. He does this by invading the realm of the Tomb Kings. After a great battle that lasts many weeks, his giant undead army destroys or enslaves the Tomb King armies. Settra, the first King of Nekkahara is destroyed. (And then brought back) Nagash finally destroys the God of the Dead and steals the Wind of Death, binding it to himself. In doing so he has made himself a god. Sylvannia is turned into a realm of death that becomes his new stronghold.

While all this is happening the Empire is beset by a vast chaos horde. Kislev has been destroyed for all save one city. To counter this threat, the leader of the Colleges of Magic, Balthasar Gelt devises a plan to create a wall of magic and faith, that stretches all across the northern border of the Empire called the Auric Bastion. This wall holds firm for many months, with only minor incursions thanks to the legions of Priests and Wizards constantly keeping its power flowing. A new plague devastates the region behind the middle section of the Bastion and at the town of Alderfen a huge Nurgle army breaches the bastion. At this battle Valten almost single-handedly holds the line. The newly restored Vlad von Carstein arrives at the battle and raises the dead to fight on the Empires side. Together they turn back the horde and seal the breach. Vlad then escapes, but sets up himself around the eastern portion of the bastion to defend it (As Nagash had ordered him to stop the Empire from falling).

Over the next few months Balthasar Gelt begins to succumb to the lure of necromancy as he sees it as a way to spare the living from the horrors of the war around the bastion. At a ceremony where Karl Franz, the Emperor is to present Valten with the Hammer of Sigmar, the Changeling attempts to assassinate the Emperor. Gelt arrives and accuses Valten of being the daemon, but he is wrong. In his panic he accidentally summons a horde of skeletons and a battle ensues where many Empire nobles are slain. Gelt flees and begins to serve as Vlads apprentice. In his absence the Auric Bastion is abandoned, as it is seen by the Sigmarite church as the work of a heretic. As such only the wizards remain to keep it powered. They are not enough and the fall collapses in many places. Only the undead defenders led by Vlad hold the chaos hordes back.

Karl Franz leads a grand army to stop this invasion and a colossal battle is fought near the town of Heffengen. Chaos Lord Crom the Conqueror leads this Chaos Army. During the battle Valten slays Crom by crushing his skull with Ghal Maraz. Vlads undead army arrives to aid the Empire, and the vast majority of the chaos host is destroyed. However at the last moment the Vampire Blood Knights led by Walach Harkon arrives and reveal their allegiance to Khorne. They smash apart the remaining Empire forces and force them to retreat. Karl Franz duels Walach and is cut down and presumed dead. Vlad then saves what is left of the Empire army by defeating Walach and destroying him. Even so, the northern regions of the Empire is in shambles and many of its greatest warriors are dead.

In the north, three more fresh chaos legions advance on the Empire.

GW is doing the most idiotic thing they could do! They are cutting off their own testicles by themselves. They are destroying a wonderful Fantasy world and game to get ... nothing but an incredible amount of crap!

What's happening in Britain? Is it a matter related with climatic changes? Is it a just like what happened to the Romans during V century? Is it a form of collective mental illness? Why are they doing this?

Vampires and Empire fighting together? Wow that is just great, and definitely interesting. Hope they will do some artwork related to this, always loved them from White Dwarf or Army Books.

GW is in declined for past few years, so this may be an attempt to revive a less popular setting/an experiment to see whether it can apply to other settings.

If it success may be 40K would push on too.

    And the next bit:

    Book 2: Glottkin

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
As part of his plan to destroy the Empire, Archaon sends three Nurgle armies to weaken the Empire in preparation for his invasion. The first, led by the Glottkin, a trio of brothers (One a giant mutant, one a sorceror and one a chaos lord), attacks the port city of Marienburg. After a very short battle the city falls, despite the effort of the cities human defenders and a horde of undead led by a Vampire kingpin of the cities underworld. During the battle the Glottkin uses a jar of Nurgles most virulent plagues, which reduces the city to a bubbling mass is hours. Another Empire army from Reikland arrives and almost turns the tide of the battle, but the contagions inside the city undo the Empire's efforts and that army is all but wiped out.

While the Glottkin consolidates its victory, another Chaos Army led by the Chaos Lord Gutrot Spume, joins a large beastman horde and bushes through the Drakwald forest towards the Empire capital of Altdorf. While in the forest, his army is ambushed by a large tribe of forest goblins and savage orcs. A frenzied battle is fought, and Spume is almost killed by an arachnarok spider, but the skill of his heavily armoured warriors ensures a chaos victory.

In Altdorf, the Empire is falling apart. The city is riven by plague, and there are daily riots. The Reikmarshal Kurt Helborg is the de facto leader of the Empire following Karl Franz's disappearance and supposed death. He brutally suppresses the riots, but is blind to the true threat. The nurgle sorceror Festus is in the city and is planning to turn it into a new Garden of Nurgle and as such secure his ascension to daemonhood.

The third Nurgle "army" sent by Archaon is in fact only three warriors. The Daemonkin as they were known, are powerful chaos lords all riding a creature known as a Pox Maggoth. They journey to the Brass Keep in the Empires north. There they summon a vast daemon host and they march to the city of Talabheim. There, after an unsuccessful frontal attack, they use another of Nurgles plague jars to turn the city into a haven for disease. This forces the defenders of the city to face the Daemonkin outside the walls and a short and bloody battle is fought. The city falls and the survivors flee to Altdorf, where Kurt Helborg is preparing the city for an attack.

Vlad von Carstein became aware of this threat, and had sent formal offers of an alliance in order to save the city. Vlad knew that if the Empire fell, then Sylvannia may be next. He also held a strange respect for the Empire (As he did once try to conquer it). After refusing the summons several times Helborg finally accepts after hearing of the fall of Talabheim, and Vlad von Carstein is made an Elector Count of the Empire. Meanwhile in Bretonnia, the civil war that had been taking place had ended when the kings traitorous son was slain by the Green Knight, who is revealed to be the first king of Bretonnia Giles le Breton. Giles is re-crowned king and the former king Louen Leoncoeur, who is now the High Paladin of Bretonnia gathers the largest Errantry Crusade since the war with Arabay. He decrees that any Bretonnian noble who looks to their own fortunes while the Empire fell was not worthy of the title. Only the Grail Knights remain behind. After several weeks of travel the crusade arrives at Altdorf just as the hordes of chaos begin their attack.

The siege of Altdorf begins with the forces of the Empire marching out of the city to form defensive lines around key gates. The Bretonnian army assembles on a ridge overlooking the city. From there they see three great chaos armies emerging from the forest. One is a large formation of heavily armoured warriors supported by hordes of beastmen. Another is a great horde of fur clad warriors and marauders. The third is a daemonic host. The Bretonnians struck first, and a colossal cavalry charge crushes many chaos marauder tribes and beastmen warherds before loosing momentum, only a short distance from the Empire lines. Following this, the Empire Knights charge into the beastmen as they form up and scatter many thousands. Chaos Knights and Dragon Ogres assault the main Empire lines, and are held at bay only just. A squadron of Steam Tanks attack the daemon host, and manage to slow its advance.

Meanwhile, in the cities heart, Festus opens a portal to the warp. Nurgle daemons emerge and the city itself begins to turn into a warped forest. The eight colleges of magic fight back, but suffer great losses. Only the temple of Shallya remains untouched, and it falls to Vlad and his undead horde to defend it. Zombies fight Plaguebearers in the streets around, while Vlad engages the leader of the daemons, Kugath a Great Unclean one. He is joined by Louen Leoncoeur who flies in on his Hippogryph. After a savage duel Louen slays the greater daemon by melting him with his divine blood. Louen then duels Festus, but is beheaded, as the sorceror is too powerful. He is almost granted daemonhood, but Vlad intervenes. Festus seemingly destroys Vlad with his magic, leaving only a ring where the vampire stood. However shortly after Vlad comes back to life and stakes Festus in the heart, killing him. This act saves the city and the daemonic host is banished.

However, outside the walls of the city the Glottkin and its army is on the verge of victory. When it seems the Empire army will collapse Karl Franz is spotted and hope of victory is restored. The battle moves into the city streets and the Empire army tries to hold the chaos armies away from the Imperial Palace. Karl Franz duels the Glottkin in the palace square, and is almost killed. His arm is cut off, but his life is saved by the sacrifice of Kurt Helborg. When all seems lost, Karl Franz calls out to Sigmar for aid. And when he does, the Twin-tailed Comet slams into the city and its energy fills Karl Franz, transforming him into a being of light and lightning. Using this new power Franz slays the Glottkin, and following this the gods Ulric, Shallya and the Lady use their power to heal the god Taal. This in turn heals the Empire from Nurgles taint. The survivors of the chaos army retreat into the forest. Almost half the population of the Empire is already dead, and many of the Bretonnian Knights that rode to its aid have been killed. It is then that news arrives that another Chaos Fleet has been spotted, the largest ever seen and bearing the banner of Archaon.

How does chaos get those armies out of nowhere? And they are not even demons? How do they even repopulate in the freezing north if they die so much?

The Chaos Wastes are larger than the Old World and Cathay combined. They may be desolate, but the Norse, Kurgan and Hung are hardy people and thrive in these conditions. Even with the constant warfare in that region there are hundreds of thousands of tribes, ranging frim a few hundred warriors, to tens of thousands. Keep in mind, when these tribes invade the other realms of men it is usually only a raid, and as such any losses are minor. Only when a great invasion (Like the end times) occurs do the men of the north truly show their strength. Untolds millions of men (And women) from the chaos tribes are warriors unlike the small percentage of men in the Empire which actually join the army. Every man is a warrior in the northern tribes.

How do they even live there and if that was so easy to make armies why did they not succeed before? Chaos is ridiculous, it is not even funny.
