New Faction Ideas in Rome 2

New Faction Ideas in Rome 2

I don't really see a problem with the map extending to China, it would add some epic factions and increase diversity, you can just make it undiscovered to the Romans like the Americas in M2TW and have the ability to push all the way east. The game is after all designed to change history.

It could possibly be a 3rd map like its (Europe/Middle-East, Indian Subcontinent, and China.) Like in empire so there are more settlements europe and india

That many factions would be impossible for engine to handle. If they can make it though, this game will be crowned the Imperator of RTS and history games.

But if they do, be prepared for turn times that take 1 hour each turn. :whistling

There were tons of factions in shogun ;):thumbsup2

ETW had about 50 factions, I see no problem with engine limitations now, unless they throw in 80 Barbarian tribes I don't see CA getting far over that number. I'm also not a huge fan of loads of small, very similar factions ( like in Shogun 2) and I would have no big problems with one Gallic faction etc. Best would be a few but since most of the tribes didn't own more than a few oppida or like half a province in the game that would be difficult.

Well you are right. But I think CA should make a pair or 2-3 collection group of them. Not a large collection as in old RTW's Gauls, Germans and Britons, but if all those tribes are represented independently, then the game would become.....very slow.:hmm:

Oh, Empire had more than 50, and even more extra factions that popped up after rebelling.

Gaul: Averni, Aedui, Veniti
Thrace: Getai, Odysrians, Triballoi
And other 3 major tribes in other regions.

I like to see the maccabees as a revolting faction, It were jews who fought the seleucids. The mainly wanted to reduce the hellenism influence, they fought as guerilla warriors in the mountains. they even took some areas and were defeated by the Romans.

I think it would be cool to represent the Germanic tribes with three factions. During R2TW’s timeline the Germanic tribes spoke a common Germanic language (Proto Germanic) and later, after c.500AD, this language evolved into three sub-languages which were mutually intelligible but distinct, these included North, West and East Germanic. I think it would be cool to have three Germanic factions based on these later linguistic groups. The reason being the languages evolved because the certain tribes would focus on expanding into different areas, ei, the north Germanic tribes settled over Scandinavia, the west Germanic tribes settled over modern Germany and more (later including Britain), and the east Germanic tribes expanded eastward going as far as the black sea. There were hundreds of different tribes but the factions could be named after the most important or largest tribes of each respective group.

Since i dot know enough about the germanic, gaulic, iberian, or british tribes im goig to focus on the factions I do know of.

If CA has somethin like this that would be awesome.

Citystates
Tribes like Aedui, Arverni, Helvetii etc...
Emergent Jews
Emergent Spartacus/Smart Rebel Factions
100 factions

Caucasian Iberia, during the reign of Rome Caucasian iberia was independent Kingdom. ROmans always supported Iberians(Caucasian) in war against Parthia and Seleucids. Romand emperor Antonius Pius built a Statue of Iberian(Caucasian) King Pharsman I in Rome, former Mars square.

Adding Iberia(Caucasian) will make Game Historically correct.

Certainly the Picts / Caledonians.

I'd also love a Roman Rebel faction, such as the Liberators, that can overthrow the Imperial administration.

Necroposters first :wub:ing post is a necropost. LMFAO.

But it wouldnt be historical would it? The liberators assassinated Julius Caesar. Did they ever really exist after Augustus except in gossip? There were coups during the Emperors but by generals and would be emperors.

Given that the campaign is unlikely to go much beyond Augustus, the Liberators and Republicans would be a good late game challenge. After Julius Caesar's death there were several wars between liberators and Mark Anthony and Octavian, and then between Mark Anthony and his former ally.

I would like to see the first black african factions in a TW game:
The Kingdom of Kush south of Egypt and
the Axumites on the southern Red Sea coasts in modern Eritrea.

Then of course all the areas not well touched in Rome:TW and the various mods:
Arabia, eastern Europe, Central Asia and the steppe between these two should receive some unplayable (minor) factions.

New factions:

Magna Graeca: which would hold southern Italy and Sicily at the start of the game
Eutruscans
Sabines
Obviously these factions would limit Roman territory to just around Rome, but it would be nice to start from there.
Sparta
Athens
Rhodes
In the same way that Rome has a small territory at the start I'd have Carthage being similar, and having to conquer Libyan and Numidian territories before getting its mercs.
Definitely Judaea
Crete
Persia

I don't agree with so many barbarian tribes, because if you had 30 barbarian nations they'd all have small armies and, unless they could be bothered to help their allies, their forces would be tiny due to a small population. However, Gaul should be split into 3 nations and Germania and Britannia into 4 nations. Also, maybe a Hibernia faction?

Was never a faction... ever. Instead there were several city states like Syracuse, Croton and Tarentum.

Sabines

Persia didnt exist but Parthia will either be emergent or available from start.

Why?

Thats how it was in history. When Caesar invaded gaul some tribes even with their allies could only gather max 3000 men. Against Caesars much larger forces.

But when the Gauls and the Germans invaded Itally they gathered around 10-30,000 men in a hoard. But it wasnt one tribe it was several. Thats how it was and that is how it should be. I dont want one large gallic faction.

I want several hundred regions and each region in Gaul and Germany is a tribe. If you invade Gaul as a region you provoke all the tribes in the region, they begin to hate you and that gives them reason to declare war on you. They take your invasion into account when deciding their stance with you. CA can easily accomplish this.

GALATIA (barbarian/greek )
SABA (arabians/eastern)
JUDEA (greek/eastern infuence)
RHODOS (naval power)
ILLYRIA (barbarian/greek )

Galatia is very interesting, but if I remember correctly, it's long past it's zenith.

I want them to include the Seleucid empire again. I loved the whole silver thing their troops had going on in Rome 1.

I am pretty sure that the Seleucid Empire will be included, although I would be very disappointed if it isn't.

They have migrated (or should I better say have been invited to Anatolia) in the 270's BC. That is only few years before the starting date of Rome:TW and also the remake.

I guess it could be kind of like the Crusade/Warpath/Jihad feature, but instead of selecting a target city, it's against an invading nation.

The thing is, you have to have good relations with the other tribes that you want to form a confederation with (or they hate the faction you're going against enough :P). Kind of like vassals, but you don't have control over them. Agreements could be made, such as raising troops, defending a certain province, kill general x, etc.

This would be pretty cool, like a pagan crusade.

What do you hope will be in Rome 2 and do you think they'll be implemented

I really don't know what factions that I should hope for, but I really would love to see like some sort of nomadic African tribe (only if they extend the map way down to the middle of Africa or something like the :P)

Please share your ideas/opinions

Possibly african factions I'd like to see:
- Carthage (playable)
- Ptolemei Egypt (playable)
- Numidia
- Mauretania
- Kush
- Garamantes
- maybe Axum or something in ethiopian-eritrean style
