M2TW Cinematic Editor Video Tutorials, Info and Fan Videos!

It's normal, the camera always start under the ground. Can you at least move the camera (the * of the num pad) to get the camera go up?

that's a pic on how it looks on my PC. Check the cfg of Third age as well in case there is the windowed mode on in it.

Thanks for the pic (thanks to Naxzul for the quick videoclip too), so maybe now I can explain it better, because I was not sure what I should be exactly seeing. Yes, the Medieval2 battle view works fine just as you describe it and the keys let you scroll/pan around, no problem. Instead of the CinEd window at the lower half, however, I get instead a separate window with the same image as the Medieval2 battle window, which is crashed. I.e. in this second window nothing moves, there is no CinEd window, the white area with the buttons at the top, scrollbar on the right, etc.

I think this is the problem Phil of Loreauville was describing above, which he solved by removing the windowed code from his cfg file. My vanilla cfg has no such code.

Could you try to take a screen shot? (press print screen, open windows paint and paste (press Crtl+v), then post in photobucket or other website)

Sure, here they are two printscreens in Windows 7. First one the battle Medieval 2 window, which is fine as you can see.

The next view is the crashed window I can enter with Alt+Tab (compare the little selection window icons on the right). It _might_ have been explained by the windowed code but in my case there isn't a windowed code in my cfg file.

You have it in the [video] portion of your cfg.

EDIT: I also have it in mine, so it should be something else. Looks like you have 2 battles open at the same time.

a long shot, but try to put multirun = 1 in your [feature] of your m2pref.cfg, it could allow several instance of m2 to run at the same time, with some luck....

Sorry for being brain dead. I had been looking through and testing different cfg files and must have lost track. But that was the right one (for Kingdoms Crusades) and indeed had the windowed code. I added the multirun line in the medieval2.preferences and/or in the crusades_cine-ed_edit.cfg under [features] and also tried the line windowed = 0 in the crusades_cine-ed_edit.cfg. The problem annoyingly remains. Thanks for your time and thoughts anyway. +Rep

If the code looks ok, maybe the problem is not with my medieval2 code but a Windows 7 problem.

In the render edit folder there is a line where you presumably have to put something in place of [CAMERA_NAME].cam

camera = C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\cameras\[CAMERA_NAME].cam

What do people put in there? I could find no relevant info and I had left it therefore just like that. Maybe that's stopping the editor from launching itself.

Put in the name of your camera file that you have recorded in the edit mode.

I guess that is the case with high graphics settings.
The size of the footage is ONLY affected by the resolution, not by the graphic settings.

1. I cannot get into edit mode. I only see the battle screen (see my post of the 19th Feb). I also have not unpacked medieval 2 mainly to maximise free space, since I am not modding. However, the camera folder is therefore not editable and I cannot see the names of the cameras. Would the missing camera name in camera = C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\cameras\[CAMERA_NAME].cam in cine-ed_render.cfg stop the editor from being launched? Should I unpack Medieval 2?

I tried inserting John Doe's camera name in the code. The problem remained, just the same in vanilla as in kingdoms. Have all of you unpacked the files? Or rather is there anyone who has not and the cinematic editor works for him?

2. Isn't high resolution a high graphics setting? The code has 740x480 resolution, so the problem with Gb should not be an issue. In any case I cannot even start recording, since the editor is not being launched.

No, you don't need to unpack the game. The camera folder will be created with the first cam file that is saved in the edit mode.

If you have not created and saved any camera paths in the edit mode, you will NOT be able to use the render mode in any way. You can ONLY record where you have *.cam files created beforehand. If the edit mode does not work in the first place, you need at first get it running before moving to the render mode. In the edit.cfg you do NOT need the line
camera = C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\cameras\[CAMERA_NAME].cam
You will only need it in the render.cfg once you have created the *.cam file in the edit mode.

I hope this makes it clear.

About getting your crashed "CineEd" windows running, I can only guess wildly. You should try all over again with a clean version of the cine-ed.cfg files (from the first post of this thread) and watch the tutorial videos there step-by-step, too. Maybe there is some part you have missed there.

Good luck,

Could you please reupload those files using another host? I'd really like to start experimenting with the cinematic editor, but if the files can't be found anywhere else...

If any one could help me (who has got the Cinematic Editor working with steam) I would be really happy. So please if you have got it to work please reply or send me a message.

Thanks a lot!

I have some problems with screen capturing. "Capture_tga" folder doesn't appear after rendering.

Hi. Is it possible to hide the time and fps from showing up in the screen while using cine-ed?
No, but why would you like to hide it? It's only for arranging the camera movements and stuff. If you render it afterwards, you will have a smooth video in whatever big resolution you want it to be - without any text appearing on screen:)

Do you see the game actually rendering the video, frame by frame? You might have have a problem with the render.cfg settings if it doesn't show the battlefield when rendering or doesn't load the map at all ;)

Thanks for clarifying that. :yes: I would had wanted to remove the text so that I could take screenshots directly with printscreen without them. I just can't get the hang of using the cameras, Fraps records the numbers too. I guess I will have to just try to figure the editor out... :hmm:

Damn you Steam!! Making it impossible for me to use this.. Grrrrr!

I'm pretty sure that there is no spelling mistakes in the .cfg files, yet Third Age: Total War 3.2 (used mod) is only loading in a window then closing abruptly. I am completely certain that I have Medieval II Total War's 1.4 patch. I do have a Windows Vista however, and the previous posts in this thread made it fully clear that Vista is problematic, without actually explaining quite how that is fixed. I moved the replays I want into C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age_3\replayf, for the sake of them not being in the hidden folder; replays. Can anybody explain exactly what I am doing wrong?
