Ok so being playing loads of RS 1.6a, medieval KGCM by dave scarface and TATW by the legendary KK.

This might be a total noob observation but one thing that RS is lacking is big army support....

OK. first before everyone jumps on the settings/graphics/performance pony read first.

On medieval(vanilla/other mods) with units set huge and unit graphics on highest i always get the polite prebattle message concerning pc performance yakkity schmakkity.....which i have come to accept and live with.....:thumbsdow

Then after loading Dave's KGCM and tatw 1.4, i did some careful observations and noticed that all of a sudden i was allowed reinforcements and battles that normally would be impossible, anything over 5000 troops used to be a dream!

I dont know whether it was improved coding in Med2 etc or Dave and KK found a way to bypass the min. specs. fail safes.
But whatever it was it works a treat and although on some really huge battles my fps drop a little its well worth it as troops die the battles speed up and resolve much better than thrashing an army, gaining experience and then having all the troops wiped out before the fresh troops arrive......

I would love to see this 'improvement' for RS2, as the units are absolutely gorgeous and the battles need to be bigger (in my humble and greedy opinion).

Maybe something worth investigating.....

Just go into preferences and change UNLIMITED TROOPS ON BATTLEFIELD to True

hmm works for me to an extent. The games ui is affected, but not the actual game as of yet, I'm fiddling with settings. I'm also using the older dx8 version and not dx9, maybe that's the thing that's making it work to a degree? ANyway, here's a link to the dx8 version, tested on RTW gold (BI) 1.6.

I hope that helps a bit. I got the green writing+black screen but I alt-tabbed (might be 3d vision discover interfering though) out of the game and then I could see the menus with HDR applied.

EDIT: Bloom works in-game. SSAO+ambient occlusion, etc, I cant really see. Reflections don't work on water, I guess that the ini just (only just lol) needs modifying to work with RTW's settings. For example there is a setting for bloom in the day and bloom at night, which might not work for RTW, as day and night might have a different name from GTA vc. Just a guess anyway.

I have set my preferences for Unlimited Men on the Battlefield to True. But my reinforcing armies are always late to the fight. They never ever show up at the start for a pitched battle.

after last night my eyeballs are literally bleeding from the eye candy.

my roman imperator campaign was becoming unplayable due to that false setting with armies comin late etc etc... now...WOW

reinforcements come on time..
@arcsquad: i dunno if its just a placebo affect but i think its randomly generated as to how troops arrive. also a mistake i always made was if you quick save or save just before the battle remember to tick the ai box for your reinforcements as it always unticks after saving....
many a time my lads have been butchered with their mates looking on:( i know the frustration....

Just WOW at pics you posted tone... I know I've said I didn't like the campaign map, but slowly but surely I'm starting to like it very much :cool:

True. Shame about the UI too. Did you try in-game?
If so:

1: How does HDR interact with 2.0, as it's much brighter compared to 1.6?
2: Was there a black screen on launch?
3: Did you have to alt-tab out then maximise again to get the menu to show up?
4: Is santa real? (ok, you don't need to answer that one.)
And.. Do you want to experiment with HDR or is it too hard to make enbseries work properly with RTW?
 
For myself, and probably Tone as well, we're so busy trying to get this done there is little time to work on it. And, TBH, you'll find that RS2 looks sooooo much better than RS1.6 that you may say, "Who needs it?" Seriously, there is no comparison. And, there is the issue of compatibility. But it may be worth experimentation after we release this monster. :)
 
ok thanks for the clarification, and besides, it was just a plaything that I stumbled upon. :) Well with a little tweaking it'll give me a temporary eyecandy fix. :D
 
I have been trying to solve the problem for RSII already... Problem is, I haven't even got as far as you did, Rsslcs. Oh, yes, the black screen appears - but it doesn't go away, even if I alt+tab a hundred times. The weird thing is, it doesn't cover the whole screen, I can see a millimetre - if not less - at the sides (left and top, I think). I tried with vanilla and RS2, to no avail.

Also, I found something else: I got the best results with the enb converter - it let's a dx8 based game (like RTW - though it's supposed to be dx9) use a dx9 enb series file, giving us more options, I believe. By best results I mean a loading screen that never loads but has the bloom effect. But at least it's not black...
Rsslcs, could you please try this (with 1.6, for example) and see what results you get? I suggest you use window mode (...." -ne after the command line of the shortcut), so that if it freezes, you don't have to reboot. (see attachment)

Dvk is right - all this isn't that important, but it would help a lot in closing the gap between ETW and RSII. (The one between M2TW is long gone)
 
With Win7, I have noticed that the task manager+other options screen when you press ctrl+alt+del on win7 overriddes everything so I don't need to restart. But alt+tabbing has always worked. And the Enb+converter does that to me too, it's the first one I tried, as it had a converter to DX9. The enb I use is the first I think. 0.0000000001 or something. :tongue: For Vice City. It's in one of the posts in the previous page. :) If you want my .ini, it's in the spoiler which is also on the previous page. Just copy+paste that into enbseries.ini.

I also think that some effects don't work (like water reflection or SSAO for example) because the files modified in vice city are not the same as in RTW. The RTW water, I assume, is texture-based, but in Vice City, it is animated.. stuff. :laughter:

We should make a submod or smth to make this work, it could be really cool as it can be applied to ANY rtw mod, as it only adds new files.

No luck with ENB. Bloom works fantastic. So well that I'm blind now. Luckily, I can touch type. Ayway, I can confirm that only bloom works, no amount of fiddling changes that. The UI is also affected by bloom. Unless someone can edit ENB's code to recognise RTW's different way of working, there's not much hope, seen that I'm not a programmer. I do Vb code at playschool level and I know what boolean is. That's it. :laughter:
 
Yep, same here - bloom and darkening works well. But nothing else. Oh, yes, reflection works too - only at night, and it reflects your whole screen giving you the strangest view you can get...

The problem with the UI can be solved by darkening the UI files, I guess, and those who would like to use ENB can swap between lighter and darker versions.
 
Good idea. I'll try reflections at night, I haven't done night battles yet. This can at least become a bloom mod, I guess.

EDIT: Nope. I just get bloom at night too. And it doesn't darken, but brightens the battlefield. Can I have your ini settings please?
