I suspected as much, but wasn't sure if it's just my sys. When they fix that, all will be much better.
Those bastards! I feel like they killed Kenny, not using the other core and all!

So that's what Cuda is? I just didn't read up into it since almost no games use it. Either way they have said they are making a Multi-core patch.

Read this if you want LOL moments
    http://software.intel.com/sites/bill...-total-war.php
Empire: Total War's engine has been redesigned to make the most efficient use of new multi-threaded, multi-core CPUs, such as the Intel® Core™ i7 processor family. Even though Empire's development paid focused attention to path-finding, the battle, and campaign logic - which can be very CPU-intensive, Empire's engine is designed such that the bandwidth between the CPU and the GPU doesn't limit performance; the CPU only sends data to the GPU through dynamic vertex and index buffers, perhaps a few megabytes a frame, which is quite reasonable for current architectures.
then this that proves it's not true also mentions multi-core patch.

Soon afterwards the task manager disclosed that the engine of Empire: Total War only used two CPU cores, the second of which was even underemployed.
We are still checking if the multi-core capability of the Empire engine (AI, rendering and physics are supposed to run in different threads) depends on the operating system or the used processor. However our German colleagues of Gamestar were assured that "mid-year an update will be released that optimizes Empire for multi-core processors”

Strange this one. I have had every possible CTD you can think of but for some reason I have never had a problem with slow AI turns. I seriously doubt I have had a turn take longer than 60 seconds if that long. This is with campaigns as deep as 1774. That was my record and that CTD was permanent with saves corrupted.

Do not have a super computer but I do have a new relatively clean one. dual core 3.16, gtx 260 video card, 4 gig ddr2 ram, run of the mill 7200 rpm HD, vista 64.

Least of my worries to be honest. I can wait weeks between AI turns as I get bored of the game anyway.

Reading down through these posts I thank God that I've never played more than ten minutes of this game.

the AI turns are longish, but I assume it's because they're calculating alot of things, just the end product is broken. I.e. the AI calculates it's move then fails attempting to act it out, this is one thing I expect to be fixed in this patch coming "shortly" whatever that means. once the AI is doing what it's meant to be doing I think people will forget about this minute or two turn time, as the AI's actions will mean it's a worthwhile wait... the reason we notice it so much now is because it doesnt look like it's doing anything at the moment so we're like "wtf, why is this taking so long".

Yes I too think that slow AI is underrepresented and that there needs to be more attention for it..
