New game announced - Total War: WARHAMMER

I am not familiar with Starcraft 2 but as I understand it for Warhammer CA will be adding to the map so for the first game you will have your 4 factions contained within part of the old world that they normally live in.

For the second game new factions will be added and that part of the campaign map that was locked will be unlocked and for the final game all of the campaign map will be unlocked.


Note that I am using the word unlocked deliberately because it does not sound like adding an expansion but unlocking something that is finished or almost finished perhaps CA could clarify what they mean.

Sounds to me like a very poor excuse for their dlc policy.

4 factions? What a crock! For this reason alone am def out of buying Warhammer at launch.

It makes sense to limit the amount of factions at the start, making all the factions in a new game would be a massively bloated and huge undertaking most likely resulting in disaster, best to learn to crawl before you can walk I say and get it right...

I don't see it as "elitist" or "entitlement"; lots of us are majorly pissed off at CA's habit of cutting content to sell to us at a later date. Their games since Medieval II, in my opinion, have seen a steady rate of decline in quality and replayability (bar Shogun II, which wasn't half bad). He's just more vocal than some of us - fair play to him.

Moreover, given the recent trend CA has exhibited I am as skeptical as Totalheadache is in regards to this release.

Who said I want to settle for mediocrity? We all just want the game to be the best it can be when released, Wanting all the factions and too much to start with could result in a disaster on the empire totalwar or rome2 totalwar scale, this is a completely new IP for them so im saying im happy to settle for 5 factions to begin with in a trilogy of games if it means we get a solid release, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and calling another's drivel just because it does not agree with yours is the definition of drivel. Im going by whats in the trailer im not going to run around shouting my head off for more factions when I would imagine those factors have already been decided in a game trailer that states coming soon...

I cant think of a single warhammer computer game that has included all the factions on release so why should totalwar warhammer be any different and the company accused of withholding content a few days after a cinematic trailer.

Remember were all on the same team here fans of the totalwar series, I assume that's what you are given your membership here on these boards? Im getting tired of seeing people attack others the moment they try to say anything positive about the series. OFC I would like to see all the factions available from day 1, who wouldent? but lets be realistic here we all know how that would end up we have seen it before and this will be the largest undertaking CA have taken to date with a totalwar game with many new factors involved, magic and flyinh monsters to name but a few. I simply want the game to be solid on release and if that means waiting on the next game or a fully developed dlc to get another faction then so be it.

Was Medieval 2 Kingdoms expansion cut content? Was Barbarian Invasion cut content? Was CiG, Hannibal, FotS, or RotS cut content? Or do you think that they make the base game without any plan or anticipation of expansions further down the line?

Nice way to cherry pick my words lad. I said "habit of cutting content"; i.e. referring to PAST releases, i.e. Atilla/Rome II, both of which HAVE cut content to release at a later date (i.e. Celts pack, Blood & Gore, Greek City States Pack, Viking Forefathers etc). I could go on.

There appears to be no base game I have asked CA to clarify but at the moment this is my reading of the situation ....

It would appear that for Warhammer you can buy any of the parts separately and play that part there is in effect no base game however since each part adds to the overall size of the campaign map and the number of factions and if you have them all you can play on one large campaign map with all the factions there is ultimately only one game but its being sold in 3 parts.

That's ok Trasibulos.. Ca have stated they have a separate team continuing the historical series, and I assume they have a limited timescale for the warhammer ip and I would assume they wont put all their eggs in that one basket, so you just don't have to play this game, just like you don't have to play alien isolation or totalwar arena and it will not effect your historical experience of the series one bit, infact if warhammer totalwar is a success its surely a good thing for the historical series too as lessons will be learned in whatever engine they are using and ofc CA will be making more money guaranteeing the future of the totalwar brand.

CA is cursed with some of the worst fanbase in the history of gaming. I am excited for this release and hope they do a bang up job worthy of the IP. I see the DLC conspiracy theorists are hard at work, trying to make everything seem like a money grab. Next thing you know they'll b saying TW: WH was cut content from Attila since it was developed at the same time. Carry on.

"Your" Total War? I doubt you paid for this already expecting it to b a 100% historical game. If you're talking about the other TW series games you own - double check I think they're still there and haven't had a wizards DLC yet.

/runs off to collect money ready to toss them after CA for Warhammer Total War and hopefully DLC's for CHAOS races.

The problem with all the dlc is CA has continually half assed there dlc, reskins of existing units are not additional content nor is paying to unlock races that are already in the game. I could be wrong they could legitimately produce real additional content this time around but the trend in the industry as a whole, looking at you Destiny, and CA/ Sega's, whomever you want to blaim, is not a promising sign.

It is a new group of games, so a new group of oportunities to decide to buy it or not. I think now it is too early to decide. Having new oportunities to decide is a good thing by itself.
