Failed to initialize audio system

I installed TW Medieval 2 demo on steam and when I opened it it gave me this responce: "Medieval 2: Total War fialed to initialise audio system. Audio card is not supported or audio drivers are out of date or not installed. Game will continue with audio disabled." Then the game runs normally but without audio and also I can't get to audio settings. It is in different color then other settings. When I exit the game I see pop up saying "Medieval II suffered a fatal error and will now exit." Anybody know the problem or solution?

I already tried: veryfying integrity of game files, updating audio drivers, reinstalling audio drivers, runing game with all possible compability modes, runing game as administrator, disabling other audio devices, updating directx and reinstalling demo.
I am using windows 10 if it helps.

Tried yours and darstars and none of them fixed the issue. Also for some reason when I exit the game there are 2 pop ups saying "Medieval II suffered a fatal error and will now exit." .

Afraid not. Wasn't even aware that a demo is available.

buy the actual game and see if that helps.

I bough the game and it didn't work BUT ...
I tried checking integrity of files, copying files to miles and windows troubleshooting audio (because for some reason windows said that there is a problem) and none of that worked.

Then I tried pluging headset to the computer and it magicly started working. I also tried using headset in demo and that worked too.

I still don't know what is the problem but it can be evaded by using headset.

Yeah, that headset solution had me puzzled too when it was mentioned the first time. Could be something to do with the software that mutes the speakers when the headphone is plugged in.
