Thread: Unable to install mod

    Default Unable to install mod

I am unable to install RTRVII via steam. I followed all the instructions, but in launching BI it gives the error:

    Script Error In
    RTRVII/data/descry_building_battle/dbb_walls_remlap.text, at
    line 193, column 18.

    Item 'rem_barb_WALL_STRAIGHT_Small_Damage'
    not defined in descry_items.txt

    Thanks!

Is RTR a mod foldered mod?

If it is then delete the RTR folder and verify game cache in Steam. Problem solved.

Won't deleting the folder delete RTR? I read RTR needed to be launched through the BI launcher.

You have to delete the RTR folder, otherwise you cannot uninstall RTR.

Or if that doesn't work then reinstall RTW.

Ok, to be completely honest, I have little to know idea what I am doing with this. My dad just sprung it on me to install Total Realism for him,
and I don't know much about modding.
. He has the steam version
and the directions said to launch it through the BI launcher after I dropped the folder in the main directory.

I see. Well, that post seems outdated to me at least most of it, except for what I linked to.

2 and 3 can be skipped as both are needless since most people today are using RTW Gold (retail or Steam).

It seems you need to install the RTR VII Gold patch. Also, make sure you have installed RTW outside of the UAC-protected C:\Program Files(x86) folder.

I apologize, but your directions are a little beyond me. He has the Rome Total War Complete edition throgh steam.

Then my instructions will work since I've both the retail and Steam version.

    1. Uninstall RTW and remove every trace of RTR e.g RTR-folders, RTR-files, RTR-scripts etc if necessary
    2. Reinstall RTW outside of the UAC-protected C:\Program Files(x86) folder (I know you can install RTW outside of the Steam folder as I've done that myself)
    3. Launch RTW just to see it is working
    4. Install RTR and the RTR VII Gold patch if necessary

Thank you for helping me through all this, but how do you install a steam game outside of a steam directory?

Just ignore the default Steam path and select a different installation path e.g C:\Games\RTW.
