The irascible and bad tempered , Helmut Feuerbach ,Elector-Count Helmut Feuerbach, Grand Duke of Talabecland, Beloved of Taal, Margrave of the East March, observed what remained of the fort, which had previously contained the forces of Dietrich Engel . The scorched and battered remains of the fort , with the still the bodies of his men , scattered around its smoking remains of the position, which had been inhabited by the advance attack forces of the green skinned foe. A foe , which celebrated its victories with its short , scattered parody of the human tongue.
A messenger had arrived from the League of Ostermark , from Prince Matthius himself , to report that most of Ostermark's strength had been smashed from the Orcs, who had been moving on there waaaaaaaaargh. A previous message had been sent from Helmut himself requesting coordination, with perhaps a attack on the extended orcish artillery which even now , lie in the fort , which Dietrich had constructed [expecting a attack from rebels to the south and overwhelmed from orcs from the east] but then a withdrawnal to the west.
The messenger from the prince , requested any talabaclanian troops for a last effort to drive back the orcs , taking away there artillery with assaults, and a counterattack to the east. Such effort from both the prince and helmut would exhaust there strength , leaving them vulnerable to any counterattacks from any remaining orcish troops , but such was the risk at this time , with the eastern front effectively broken, that it had to be done, even at the least to buy time. Ultimately the eastern front was broken , and a new army from talabecland , would take some time to field, and on its own would not be sufficient to turn back the orcish hordes. Letters were sent out to Hochland and Ostland for aid, for any spare strength , which could perhaps turn to the tide, to right the front , to regain the initiative . Although Stirland , was closer , they had problems of there own , as undead forces , had blocked the one and only bridge, which forces could use to help the desperate League of Ostermark.
"Fak! By the warts on Sigmar's arse! Ready the men to march! ........Talabecland goes to war! A pouch of Gold to the first man , to bring down one of those orcish scum! Maaar-ch !", roared the Count of Talabecland , but privately he feared for the future of the empire of the eastern front , if there was little aid sent.
-amendment-
The spy halted the column of Talabecland column long before it reached the fort, and his words spoke of the shear numbers of the orkish foe, which prevented any such entry. A new plan was called into effect , as the Talabecland column changed face and moved back into its native territory , at best to prepare for a counterattack...at worse to make a stand for Talabecland itself...
"Retreat!....Retreat !" , shouted the cries of officers, as the column turned westwards in its haste to withdraw to the safety of there nation..
Franz and Erwin Jager had grown up in the town of Akendorf, nestled in the hills of the Border Princes. When they were old enough, both left to join the free companies, eventually settling down in Averheim and starting families. When the news of the Orc armies overrunning the Border Princes arrived, both rushed to enlist, joining a brigade of Crossbowmen in Count Marius Leitdorf's army.
One night, their regiment was summoned by the Count himself. Together with a tiny fraction of the army, they marched east towards their old hometown of Akendorf. When they arrived, the gates were open, and they quickly stormed the city, killing countless Greenskins in their path.
(The other agent entered last turn. I can dig up the screenshot if necessary.)
When the battle was finally decided, Count Marius summoned the troops.
"Our scouts have reported that two great Orc armies are approaching us at speed. We shall be departing immediately. However, our scouts also believe that their siege equipment will not arrive for some time. Therefore, one or two brave men may, perhaps, hold off the Orcish hordes long enough for us to prepare a counter attack. I need one or two men for this job. Is anyone willing?"
Franz and Erwin looked at each other and stepped forward. The town where they were raised was as good a place to die as any.
Count Marius looked them over. "Good men. I proclaim you both, the Third Legion of Averheim! Your sacrifice shall be remembered, and your banner hung up in the Hall of Heroes!"
With that, the army swiftly marched out of town, back the way they had come. The two shady-looking figures who had opened the gates also disappeared off into the hills. Finally, Franz and Erwin were the only men left in the deserted down. Franz looked over to his brother.
Besieged 3 settlements from Ostermark, took one empty from Stirland (previously Ostermark settlement) and took a stirland fort, with overwhelming forces, as the defenders were less than 100 troops.
