Faith and steel have always been the friends of Averland, and faith and steel were what they called upon to face the coming hordes. The Border Princes were a garden of corpses, all but abandoned before the marauding hordes of Orcs. A tiny garrison still held out in Munzig, the greatest city in those lands, but all knew that it could not last long.

However, through the sacrifice of many men, the Orc forces had split! Two armies besieged Munzig, while two more cleaned up the remaining Averlanders left behind their lines. Count Marius chose to sieze this chance. Assembling a mighty host, he rushed south alongside Lord Alptraum, exhausting their men, but traveling further and faster than any army had in history. Soon, they appeared below the gates of Munzig in the dead of night, ambushing the Orcs encamped there. As with all battles of its kind, the Orcs fought hard, the Black Orcs doubly so. Despite the element of surprise and outnumbering the foe two to one, thousands of men were still slain. Still, the Orcs were eventually routed, leaving their groggy eyed companions to their doom.

The second Orc army had slept the night away, unaware of the slaughter occurring next to them. When the awoke to find their companions driven off and two great armies descending on them, all discipline left them. They fled, but as scouts struck their southern flank they turned their flight north into the Empire. Count Marius smirked and ordered his men to let them pass.

As the Orc column fled north, they passed deep into the county of Averland. They ran , not heeding their surroundings, until in a rocky ravine they found their path blocked by stern men. Here a rain of arrows fell upon them, slaughtering most of their company. The Black Orcs pushed their way to the front, cutting through the barricade, but only a few hundred survived to break through.

Finally, the Orcs reached the end of their flight. They had reached the bridge over the Aver, but with the foes close behind! Across the stream they could see the desolation wrought by their brethren, and their hearts lifted! As they struggled into the stream they wondered why their path had not been blocked. Instead, at the center of the stream, they found a single alter to Sigmar, blocking their way. Laughing, they charged out into the stream to meet it. Their allies on the other bank did the same.

The moment both armies were in the stream, a shout went up from the western bank. Barrages of muskets and cannons hit the Orcs, and armored halberdiers and greatswords waded into the shallows to cut down the greenskins. The slaughter was complete. Thousands of Orcs and goblins lay slain in the river, while the men of Averland paid a light price. However, when the battle was done, the guardians of the war alter found that they could not move it back to friendly lines. Their friends called on them to come back and leave it, but instead they stood in the middle of the stream, praying to Sigmar as the arrows fell upon them until all were slain.

Passed the save to Mergor! I will post pictures tomorrow aswell.
From now on, all Empire factions can recruit special mercenary armies and some heroic characters, if they have the money to spend for it. There are many to choose from, but you can only hire one per turn. If you wish to do so prepare atleast one diplomat or more (in case consol doesn't want to accept a character name) and message me about it.

First of all here is the list of available mercenaries and heroes. I also give more information about the heroes and what they bring, cost, if you wish to buy one and ask me.

    Mercenaries:
    Leopold Di Lucci
    Roderigo Delmonte
    Ricco Ragged
    Hernan Cortez
    Fernando Pirazzo
    Voland
    Luca Braganza
    Bronzino
    Ramon Black
    Maximilian Damark
    Bartholomeus van Clumpf
    Richter Kruger
    Golfag Lydoed
    Eric Ragnar
    Morgan Bernhard
    Jurgen Muntz
    Sir John Tirvald
    Vespero

    Heroes:
    Valten
    Luthor Huss
    Jihann van Hal
    Thyrus Gorman

There is another two heroic ones, but the game refuses to give them proper name, but I will tell what they bring. One of them is an Ulric Priest the other is Bretonnian Knights.

Secondly I want to expand the rule about giving settlements to allies. When we started the hotseat I set it, that you can only give 1 territory to your allies, however we are now in a prolonged phase, which require an amendment, given the Empire victories in Ostland. The update to the rule would be, that from now on, you can only give 1 territory to your allies, however you can give back all of the starting territories of a faction to that faction, if you wish. For example given Ostland situation, with the new amendmen, If Reikland conquers all the settlements back, he can give all of the starting territories back to the Ostland faction, but only those territories.

Ostland was re-emerged as a province of the Empire when the Emperor gave back the cities and settlements destroyed in the great chaos war on the border , but the devastation was near complete , with ostland's settlements lying broken and shattered, population destroyed or scattered or emerging from hidden places where they hoped to survive the storm of chaos. But the people of Ostland were indeed formidable in their efforts to survive in no matter what kind of tragedy bent and near broke their will.

Tax's were increased to the maximum making life in the northern border, even more unbearable, but Valmir proceeded in enforcing draconian laws , and tax raising knowing that a massive infrastructure plan would be the best effort he could bring to the struggle the empire would making for the future, as archery schools , field systems , and church's were commissioned , and those ostland workers that contributed to the state , would be given food , drink and a place to stay. Such benefits would encourage many ostland citizens to help rebuild their own areas , speeding up the re-construction.

The army thou,..... the army that was another matter, and Valmir , advised the emperor that the Ostland army had ceased to exist, and he did'nt think even a single ostland army group could contribute to the empire's efforts for the foreseeable future. It would take perhaps even another ten years perhaps before the men and women of Ostland could perhaps make even a single battlegroup , such was the depopulation . The emperor perhaps worrying about the Ostlander's security had promised a mercenary battlegroup bought from the Emperors own coppers, but such a army group was so far, caught up the massive delays on the road networks around the capital's , as the rest of the emperors roads, were filled with soldiers and supplies wagons moving hither and wither , moving to counter the massive ork invasion , delaying the arrival of such a army group to the men of ostland .

Talabecland now, that was another story , as the surge of ork armies moved across the lands, burning crops , sacking whatever cities they could reach , and pushing the Talabecland population further north, and west as they fled in terror, from the orks mighty push into the centre of the empire. Now the empire at least had a chance , Count Sigismuid though to himself as he stood outside the last settlement held by Chaos ,in the previous hochland town of Herzig which had now been surrounded by the last of the Talabecland army , and reinforced with forces from Reikland and Middlened which keeping all those chaos forces bottled up.

Back in the home counties of Talabecland , things were less , favourable , with all of the Counts settlements falling except for the Capital city , Talabheim itself, which now found itself undersiege , the last bastion of Talac men's lands around and the emperor pronounced that a far distant land had been given to Talabecland's heir to at least secure his lineage, as the rest of Talabeclands were sure to be taken.

But for now , Count Sigmuid joined the siegetower, with the rest of his men , as it was pushed towards the walls of Herzig , with the chaos warriors screaming obscenities against the men of Talabecland . The reserve troops of Talabecland and Reikland ran deflection on other sides of the town , pinning down some chaos forces on the walls , whilst a small company of Middenheim sent forward crossbowmen, who dug in pavise shields into the ground , where their crossbow company began a running skirmish with chaos warriors on the northern wall [away from the main assault, some making it into a scoring game, where the one with the highest kills would win the flagon of wine for tonight and those with poor skill receiving a enemy missile for their pains.

The siegetowers rumbled forward... the towers reaching the walls and the, ramps falling unto the battlements , showering the area in crowd of dirt and dust, as chaos marauders leapt forward eager and courageous in their hate for the empire troops , but the score of chaos warriors , all toppled to the floor or off the walls as the massive crossbow volleys of bolts that hit them from close range, from within the siegetower itself , from a preplanned move by the men of Talabecland .

A sergeant yelled a charge , and the swordsmen of Talabecland ran forward [knocking some of the crossbowmen to the floor] as they reached the walls , and the fierce hand to hand began , to the shouts of men . The Count himself appeared on the top tier of the tower, and began to encourage the next wave of swordsmen forward , but his words were overwhelmed with the calls of the fighting , and the screams of the dying.

"Oh Sod it ! " , cried the Count Elect , hurling himself into the morass into the wall fight , finding himself forced against a rough fur clad maraunder with a bald head , and wielding a fierce blade with spikes on its blade which he swung , whilst standing perhaps a few hands taller than the normal men of the empire , carved from the harsh living conditions in the cold wastes to the north. One Talacbecland trooper to his left , blocked the horrible weapon with his halberd head, whilst the Count Elect swung his glowing RuneBlade, slicing a deep cut into his bare chest , forcing him backwards in fear and pain , but the empire crowd on the wall , surged forward , trampling the chaos warrrior of Chaos under the press of bodies , and his cries of pain , were silenced forever .

Both sides threw everything they had into the fight for the walls, until the warriors of Chaos could'nt afford to hold the walls, and they fell , back calling in other warriors that were holding other areas of the wall ,to fall back to the town square for a final stand. Count Sigismuid could've opened the gates and allowed the other warriors of the empire in , to help with this fight , but his blood was up , as he was looking for something to take his anger out on , with the destruction of his lands, and so he made this personal.

Recruiting as many halberdiers and missile troops as he could, he surrounded the square , with deep lines of halberd troops blocking all the routes away from the city, with missile troops behind them to thin out any attack which was more than a few ranks deep if they tried to break through. Once the encirclement was complete , the the crossbowmen and archers of Talabecland saturated the town square with bolt and arrow for a full half hour , till nothing living, was moving within the chaos barricades within the centre of square, and that was when the halberd companies moved forward , stabbing anything that moved , taking no risks against such a foe. There might be some chaos converted followers perhaps below the town within the sewerage system or hiding in crypts or cellars but that was a problem for another day , for now , it seems the last scourge of Chaos's attack had been blunted, with another problem of some magnitude being the orks still remaining.

Sigismuid looked at the town, which had been torn apart in the struggle, as smoke and fire , raged across streets and roof tops , the smoke drifting off into the distance , with the walls blacken and smudged red, with the decomposing bodies of both sides , littering the battlefield , and was grimly satisfied at the sight , but knew the dangers that lay ahead of himself and his people , and wandered what the emperor and his allies would do , to stop the green plague from progressing any further into the empire....

Later on the Talac river , the two battered fleets of talabecland , met the orkish hulk , and in two separate hard fought battles, brought their cannons to bare, first battering the orkish vessel into fleeing and then finally making a critical hit , holing it just around the waterline , causing it to start sinking , as many of the orkish sailors abandoned their vessel ..only to find the talabecland ships getting close enough to pinpoint those , flailing around in the river , and making shortwork of them , with carefully chosen shots .

Eric Vaynmut was a experienced remover of those that stood against the state of Stirland and the empire , well traveled in his own way , his skin well tanned from his long travels across the empire. It was a mere pittance for him , to receive the call to remove some Chaos believers who were preaching to the people around Herzig . Leaving his guard dog , at the back of the building , to where the preacher was preaching across the square, he climbed swiftly , his light frame and leather armour enabling a climb , catching windows , and gutters he reached the dark tiled roof . His feet , slipped slightly on the slippy surface, but his hands caught purchase on the side fascia , helping his feet finally search and find a foothold before , slowly lifting himself inch by inch above the crest of the roof .

The frantic tone of the preacher across the square was heard to rapt approval of the crowd that listened to his foul words, but the Eric had little time , for such filth , prefering to check his masterwork assassin's pistol, made , from the mastercraftsmen in Hochland , checked it was ready , and aimed it at the droning and frantic gabbled preaching .

The shot rang out with a crack , and Eric swiftly secured his pistol , sliding down so that only his head , was above the crest of the roof , checking his aim was true , and saw the preacher was down , a bullethole in his forehead, as his followers moved forward checking him out and beginning to look for someone to blame for his death.

Knowing his time , in this area , was done , he allowed his frame to slide down the rest of the way , until he reached the gutter , and with a quick glance to confirm his landing place jumped down onto a large compost heap which absorbed his fall , but he failed to see was that the compost heap had been recently seeded with fresh horse dung , which as he hit the heap , began to slide down over his body and hat as his crumpled form sank into the heap .

His leathers slightly stained , he stood brushing off straw and other material he did'nt wish to look to carefully at , he whistled calling his guarddog to him which ran forward , its tongue dropping wildly at its panting , but it began to whine at the new smells emanating from his master with a whimper. Eric grinned at the dog calling it to heel and began to stride away into the backstreets as the chaos followers began to fight amongst themselfs , as they all were eager to blame each other to advance their own positions within the cult , as the middle-aged assassin began to whistle a tune , as he faded into the shadows .

Sorry for the delay. Working out Merc stuff.

As they have so many times in recent years, the Armies of Averland once more march to war. Today, however, they march to victory!

The Orcs were confident in their siege of Mungzig. The city was surrounded and likely to fall in a matter of days. The siege lines were manned by the dreaded Black Orcs, each worth a dozen Empire soldiers, and the garrison was soon to starve. Still, to ensure that no Imperial reinforcements arrived, barricades were set up in Blackfire Pass.

The Orcs manning these were surprised, therefore, to see the glimmering armor of thousands of men of Averland standing before their walls. What the greenskins had not counted on was a man named Jan Pittersdorf. A middling commander who had, so far, spent the war manning the northern forts on the Aver river, Pittersdorf was a harsh and seasoned drillmaster. Marching his men further than anyone could have thought possible, his army reached the pass on the twelfth day of the month, where a grateful Count Marius took command.

Other forces arrived soon after, but were dismayed to see their cannons being sent north! Questions were asked, to which the Count merely replied that the cannons "had business" to the north. The men were restless, but finally, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, more cannons arrived. The barricades were quickly torn down with focused fire, and the forces of Averland streamed though. No Orcs survived.

With the pass secured, the armies of Averland rushed south to relieve the city of Mungzig. A vital line of defense against the Orcs and a wealthy city in itself, Mungzig had changed hands many times over the course of the conflict, with the mud beneath it's walls drenched in blood many times over. This was Count Marius's third battle beneath the walls of Mungzig, and once more it was a victory, though the cost was high. As the Count's Heavy Halberdiers marched across the field, cutting down Orcs, the Black Orcs charged forward to meet them. Casualties were high on both sides, and while Averland took the victory, the celebrations were tinged with sorrow.

The Knights of Origio were a proud order, and Count Marius' request for their aid was properly humble. Offering to pay their (considerable) expenses using gold gifted by the Prince of Altdorf, the Knights were won over by the Count's honeyed words, and the urgency of the times. Taking their ships north and down the River Reik, the knights landed at Averheim with a great army of footmen. Expecting a lordly welcome, they were shocked and offended to find a city devoid of Lord and host. Instead, a curt counselor informed them that they were to march east and help repulse an Orc attack on the crossing near Hornau.

Upon their arrival, the Knights found the armies of Averland and Wissenland hard put and on the verge of defeat. Tens of thousands of Orcs had thrown themselves against the crossing and been repulsed. However, the defenders were now on their last legs, having lost most of their numbers. Fortunately, the Orcs were in an even worse position, and with the help of the fresh Knights they were quickly put to flight.

After the battle, Michel Cortrez asked that the Knights join him in crossing the river and reclaiming the lands beyond it. However, the proud knights had not taken kindly to their gruff treatment, and refused to march. They'd had a long journey and would rest now.

Cursing them, Cortrez took his army across the river alone. Instead of a great re-conquest, the goal became that of a raiding mission, to kill as many Orcs as possible and delay their next attack. Out of the southern woods, cannons appeared as if by magic. These were the same cannons sent by Count Marius, to ensure that every stronghold now besieged could be taken before the Orcs counter-attacked. With the new cannonfire, the remaining Orcs were wiped out beyond the river, and the crossing was secured.

Finally, with the crossing taken, a raid was begun into Hornau. The city that had suffered so much from this war would suffer once more, as Averlanders blasted down the walls and brutally sacked whatever treasure they could find. Finally, with the fighting done, the vast bulk of Cortrez's men pulled back over the river, taking up defensive positions in the fortress they had so recently manned. There they were met by reinforcements to bolster the crossing and ensure that no greenskins could again threaten the County of Averland.

    Orcs up!
