I went ahead and traded my GTX 770s for a single GTX 970, a straight swap. Didn't improve performance much, but that's expected. Don't have to deal with SLI finicky-ness for a while.

so no SLI built anymore Spartan?
What about the problem you had better performance after 2nd benchmark run etc. this is gone now?
by today I bought a Zotac AMP! Extreme Core 970 GTX, that has a nominal better performance than the Asus, I am excited to see them compared, i will downclock my CPU to 4.3, we have a more similar base. My RAM is CL9 though.
I hope it will arrive by Saturday.

Correct, sold the GTX 770s combo to a gentleman in New Jersey for $320 USD shipped. I picked up the Asus GTX 970 Strix off Amazon for $305 USD shipped, since it was a "damaged box" unit. The card arrived safe and sound, and overclocks like a champ. Performance has been consistent in ATW; I no longer have to run a benchmark/session twice to get expected performance.
Congrats on the Zotac AMP! I was looking closely at that model as well, but the Asus Strix won me over on price alone. Welcome to the GTX 970 club brother!

Yes, the Strixx is nice. It's great that it completely switches off the fans while temperature is below 60 degree. The newer MSI cards do the same but it's more expensive than the ASUS card here and I also like the fan noise characteristics of the ASUS better (there was a test with fan noise recordings).
And surprisingly, both of my Strixx OC to 1550Mhz consistently (max boost speed as read out with Afterburner) which is great since they should always be clocked the same for SLI.
It's primarily surprising because OC speed depends much more on silicon lottery rather than the specific GPU model. Same is true for CPUs too. Essentially only the GPU and motherboard makers want us to believe that their superior power design and secret xyz stuff makes their products much better for overclocking. In the case of GPUs at least a good cooler can make a difference.
There was a nice test showing the maximum overlock from 13 GTX960 cards. As shown in the graph, the results are all over the place. Most telling, the lowest and the highest overclock were achieved with the same card model:

Let's talk about the choice I made in the HW suggestion thread and keep this to the benchmarks.

After more SLI testing, it seems that the 'Particle Effects' can cause the SLI utilization to bug out. Since having them set to max performance I haven't noticed any desynch between the 2 graphics cards.
Also, after moving from 7970 crossfire to 970 SLI, I noticed that crossfire configuration was lacking a lot of fire (particle effects) even on the campaign map. But crossfire scaling was working fine.
Atm:
Crossfire: perfect scaling, no desync between cards but no proper fire (particle) effects
SLI: with higher particle effects, possible desync between SLI cards
There is a new Nvidia driver out just now, is this better?

Latest NVIDIA drivers (350.05 beta and GTA V 350.12) didn't change anything regarding the SLI getting out of sync. In the 1st benchmark run after starting Attila, SLI utilization breaks down exactly at the same point (about 5-8 seconds into the benchmark with extreme settings). When I run the benchmark the 2nd time, SLI works perfectly for the whole benchmark run. My guess is that it is an engine problem rather than a driver problem. When I switch off SSAO, ambient, lower particles to max performance this problem doesn't occur, at least not in the benchmark.
My sistem: cpu i5-2500K @OC 4,5 Ghz
gpu Zotac Gtx 760 AMP Edition! 2Gb
Ram 8GB 1333 MHz
if if i change my Gpu with radeon r9 290 or r9 290x, i'll obtain a significative FPS improve?
P.S. Sorry i've posted in wrong section!

CAMPIONI del MONDO!!!!!
Theoretically about 20%-30% at 'max quality' preset. But at the moment, the fire/smoke effects are bugged on AMD hardware and often seem to cause severe performance issues (besides not being rendered correctly or not at all).
Therefore, I would at least wait till this issue is fixed for the AMD cards.
Also, if u like a quiet PC, getting a GTX970 might be the better choice since it consumes much less power (= less heat = quieter).
I forgive the offtopic post, as it would belong to the hardware recommendation thread. Your computer has good reserves and I would suggest a GTX 970 very much definitely over any existing and affordable AMD card. Have a look at the results with my very similar system with a Zotac AMP! Extreme Core Edition. It rocks even newer computers / CPUs.
and this is not even limited to Attila as you can refer here:
http://hwbot.org/search/submissions/...mar&cpuId=2277
I have 22.2 avg fps in Attila maxed out! @1080p and yet very playable 32 fps avg in extreme quality preset at the same resolution.
and this was even before I started to OC the 970 manually. I will redo the benchmarks soon just to see how good the scalation is.
Thanks for the feedback on the driver Barb. It seems that Spartan went the right way and get rid of his SLI. I am not a fan of that technology either... to many issues and drawbacks for the performance your get. I cannot even imagine people that place 4 cards in one computer. That feels so OPowerd wasted.

Actually, SLI/CF can be great. You should just know what u get into. It's correct that SLI/CF have more problems with performance and bugs. But if u have a little patience and u can wait until those issues are ironed by game/driver updates for a specific game, then it's fantastic for about 80% of the games. Price/performance is very good (if it works). 2x970 are often faster than a Titan x but cost much less. Any micro stutters from SLI can often be tamed with a framerate limiter which I use always anyway.
SLI in Attila is a little buggy but now I am playing Rome 2 in downsampled 5K (5120x2880) resolution and it looks fabulous. Without 2x970s in SLI I actually couldn't play the game at all because I hate pixelation and flimmering which comes with all the aliasing in Rome 2. And downsampling is the only real alternative because Rome 2 doesn't have any MSAA.
Some sample images from Rome 2 in 5K:

cool pics and good quality, with mods though . Sad that this benchmarking project died so fast.

Unfortunately, sales of Attila are not the greatest as u know. All Attila forums here (and the official ones) are pretty quiet.
And since Witcher 3 came out just when NVIDIA had fixed the SLI support for Attila, I haven't really played much Attila yet. Still I will try to get some performance numbers in.
Thanks mate! The more the better so I can fill out the sections and have a good comparison to other rigs.

War is Hell, and I'm the Devil!
I would love to see they have tested a lower res as people rarely have the used one and 2x MSAA is not highest settings tbh, especially MSAA is costly. I had 23 fps avg (GTX 970) with really maxed out settings in 1080p. Pretty ashaming. Also these results of "next gen" GPUs are not really fun to see. Thanks for bringing this up, Fanest.
