Also, is Steam really required? I tried there but it wasn't working. Is there a non-Steam version of GEM?

I thought I got it installed but I felt that no matter what parameter I tweaked, nothing changed significantly...Then I told a friend to install it and he told me...hey in the white first screen when you run the game, it shows me some chinese letters...and I don't have those chinese ones!!! so wtffffff

Any luck running GEM 1.0.8.1 with Window 8.1

It seems to work on my 8.1 (no patch 17 beta installed).

Turn on Compatibility Mode on the configurator, save the configuration and then activate GEM and close it. That works for me.

You will see the change in graphics, if its installed correctly!

And its like your friend already told you: there're those Asian looking red letters on the loading screen. If they aren't there it's not working properly.
Follow the installation instructions carefully (OP!!!) and it will work!

Yes, it does work for Windows 8.1, I've been using it for like 6 months. It does NOT work on Windows 10, however.

- Use in-game AA if UI-By-Pass enabled

right ive just updated to windows 10, if i had any idea that gem wouldn't work, i would've never done so !

Please lucifer can you check it out and see if you can make gem work on windows 10. I literally can't play without it !

For Rome II Total War I recommend to use the Steam Workshop version to get the BM & CM changes.
For other applications (including Attila) download the GEMFXv1.0.9 stand-alone version from the OP.
