Speaker Nominations

Please nominate who you would like to invite as a speaker for the Symposium. There won't be any hard and fast rules about who we can nominate or who is accepted, I think we can reach a communal decision on nominees. If you are unsure, I ask that you PM myself and another committee member or two before you actually nominate the person... fighting against a nominee is not a situation I want anyone to be in, but we should be relatively lenient at this stage as well.

I've been out of the community for a while, so my list of nominees will be quite short, but I'm sure you all can pick up the slack.

I also ask that we don't say "RTR" or "EB," but name specifically people from the mod ("Caius" or "khelvan").

Mugging current committee member - Publius, who has, I think, had experience in a range of different teams.

Publius, I like your list except for putting me in (you're not allowed a revenge vote ). As I've neither been in big team OR lead project I don't think I'm suitable as a speaker - though I'd be interested in the more general participation later, if the attendances are relatively open.

I'm voting for somewhere around point 5 ish. I think we need to have informally, (as individuals rather than committee if that distinction can be made) canvassed for some possible speakers - so we know we're likely to get enough support on that front - before we present decision in Prothalamos. Assuming that doesn't get shot down we can then proceed with the more formal invites

Was thinking that afterwards we probably should go to all the hosted mods or other major mods we know of to pick up any other speakers and in interests of inclusion - though time is getting to be bit of issue to do it that way.

If the approach we are about to make is meant to cover everybody (except those the invitees themselves may suggest as additions) then we probably do need to start listing leaders of hosted / major mods we've so far missed - and 'parcelling' them up into groups so we can work out which of us are approaching which of them.

Unfortunately I don't think any of us do - however 'connected' you are you tend only to know a few mod teams well. I'll go and make a start on attempt at listing for RTW hosted mods - preferably would someone else volunteer to look at BI ones. And every one review list so far to see if we've missed any major but non-hosted ones.

We'd need to work out what to do about newer mods such as M2TW ones as well, are teams that new counted as major mod teams? It's hard to tell what experience really exists there yet - but its shame to leave that area out of something that could also be mod community building exercise.

A few months is not long enough to gain the requisite experience, IMO, but if there are experienced RTW modders who now mod M2TW, no sense leaving them out.

OK would everyone else also go look through M2 hosted sections and play spot the mod leader you recognise then, so that they can get added to list too, individually we aren't likely to spot everyone....

Going down RTW hosted here, btw I'm not bothering to work out who leader officially is if reps. are already nominated we can cover that by generalised invite letter slightly to allow them to suggest more appropriate/ additional speaker;

Casus Belli = difficult as Italian mod and official leaders, Modred & Riczu74 don't look active here, not being prejudiced against non TWC just not sure how to contact, active members include Topus Magnus, Sirius 21, Italian Stud and [Sextus] - suggest passing invite / general message through one of those.

again there's quite a few where it's hard to tell who leader is so we need to cover that in invite somehow.

I am more or less sure about these, first bullet personally the other by reputation. The others I cannot speak for.

Agraes has led the Arthurian team for well over a year now I believe, and was on the team when it was merely a concept being researched. He's carried it to its present release, and both Border Reiver and Swabian have played a significant part on the team as well over past months.

Repman's barebones mod is on version eight I think - it's a small team (he might be the only developer, I don't know) but surely if Lusted is allowed for TE and LTC Repman should be for BB and DLV

there are some in there I would argue for on grounds of what I think I know of their experience generally, and I would certainly vouch for some of those over some others you've not picked out as dubious from the requested list of leaders - as we said we weren't going to argue on nominees on publicly viewable forum though - I don't want to go into specifics here (though Publius just covered my feelings on leaving Arthurian reps out, it is after all one of the few successfully released total conversion mods)

anyway I suspect if nominee doesn't actually have requisite experience, they are unlikely to put themselves forward as initial speaker for a topic, and if they do so and can't provide a suitable outline for the topic couldn't they be rejected at that stage.
