    Default Chimps observed using weapons

Here is some interesting news ,chimps in Senegal have been observed hunting other primates with spears.

    Discussion
Do you think that chimps using tools on their own and in this case aggressive weapons is more evidence that evolution occurs and that humans are and chimps share a common ancestor?

Not really. Many animals are known to use tools to some extent, like some varieties of birds (e.g., ravens, as I recall). I'm not too surprised by this, since I knew primates did sometimes use tools, but it's definitely interesting.

I find that the idea of some chips sharping their spears with their teeth very eerie if only we could peer into their thought process and understand how they go from stick to spear and then teach it to others.

Oh well...all who refuse to aid the chimpanzees are doomed. So, I'll be helping attack and enslave the puny Humans of...what country do you all come from again?

hehe chimpanzees are crazy little fools.

The most fascinating thing I ever saw about chimpanzees was a documentary about how they wage war. A bunch of chimpanzees would go out on a war party and sneak over to the enemy territory. They waited for one enemy chimpanzee to isolate himself from his community and then ambushed him. They jumped on him, broke his ribs, bit his arm and finally killed him. It was very violent and graphic to watch (the camera team had followed the war party), but when they were beating that lone chimpanzee you could see an almost human-like behaviour. It was the look in their eyes and they way they were so excited about it... very freaky

    edit:

hey anyone remember the opening of 2001: a space odyssey with the primates and the black stone?

I saw something like that (might have been the same documentary)

It was really freaky how they hunt monkeys, it seems as if they plan it out.

As if... what is it with mankind and believing it is the only sentient species with the ability to plan? They make tools, they probably do make plans, and they probably can think ahead. Give 'em a few millenia undisturbed and they'll be having an Enlightenment!

But it's an interesting find Cassy.I have heard such a case after a long time since the rising of three savage men who were exactly like monkeys(or better say, chimpanzees) and made their own tools and weapons to carry on with their forest life...

Hey,aren't we forgetting something? We homo sapiens were once, more or less, definitely or at least like Chimpanzees .

It'll be interesting to see; we've changed the conditions they are in, but have we changed them that much...

I'd love for another intelligent species to arise, I just wish they did it sooner. Imagine how much cooler it'd have been if instead of Rome conquering the Carthaginians, but instead, the Croc Empire! Maybe there were other non human intelligent species on Earth that we wiped out long ago, that have since become myth, I can't wait til we get to space to fight those damn Drengins...

If another intelligent species arises, I'd be forced to mass-distribute the Ender Saga... just so we don't commit xenocide!

Why can't we? If we don't they will! Maybe that's what the Mayans were getting at with that 2012 thing, the year the chimps attack and wrest control from us! Prepare for the war if you don't want to be monkey food!

If we don't... will they? Isn't the real reason for most war miscommunication, and wouldn't that be the cause of war hear, failure of interspecies communication meaning interspecies fear meaning xenocide...

dont worry so long as their sticks dont get bigger than ours we'll be perfectly safe, otherwise looks like mankinds is going to have repeat a reoccuring theme in our heritage (depending if you believe it) time to make more speicies extinct, grab you pitchforks and light the torches communal hunt!

I've also observed raid, foray, and gank socialogy in chimps.
In separate but equally disturbing news, Bonobos engage in communal orgy behavior.

Well my hopes for a new intelligent species arising are zilch, at least for my lifetime. Nothing of that sort has happened in recorded history (6000 years) so in my opinion its not likely to happen in the next 100 years.
