    Helmut Feuerbach of Talabecland tested the wind , that blew across the plains near Mordheim , alarmed to see that the orkish scum had built a crude approximation of a wooden fort, made-up of wagons , old cats, and several parts of what appeared to be wooden dwellings into a hotchpotch of a defence.

    "What the fekk is that?", yelled Count in his annoyance, at being blocked by such a ramshackle heap of trash with orks , who continued to throw down insults at the Count Elect of Talabecland and his personal army.



    "Line-up the men!", cried the count from his horse, "Let us cleanse this -hole of this greenish scum!", as his warhorse sat still, despite smelling the foul stench of ork in the air as some of the orks burst into song.

    The troops of the 1st army of Talabecland , which mainly consisted of empire spearmen and swordsmen deployed into columns, and started the attack with 2 battalions of spearmen charging at what appeared to be the orkish defences. Hours went by as the empire crossbowmen supported the attack from the main lines of the talabecland forces, as the attack went slowly , dragging one ork after another from the walls, or throwing them back inside.

    The orkish warchief , a ork significantly larger than the rest , held his own on the rough parapet of obstacles which was the orks defences, raising his giant bloody axe high and called out to the 'umans leader.

    " 'Umie chief,... lets fight!.....If i's win , ya allows us ta stay put!", bellowed out Skullmuncha, waving his axe provocatively towards the count, who was clearly marked at the front of the empire army with his bright coloured banners behind him.

    "Fekk that!" , shouted Count Helmut, "Crossbows ! Skewer the bastard!"

    The twanged sound of multiple crossbows firing echo'd in the days light, firing at the giant war chief position. Some bolts struck in the wooden defences, but more than a couple found their mark. The orkish war chief raised himself above the barricades and roared his rage at the cowardly 'uman leader, before being dragged to the ground by some smaller orks.

    "Iz gonna kill 'dat 'umie scum!" , said the Warchief Skullmuncha, knocking away all the smaller orks that had pulled him down to the ground.

    "Err boss..... 'der iz a bit uv a problem" , said one of the smaller orks pointing at the warchiefs head. The warchief lifted his hands , and felt above his head , to find the feathers at the end of a bolt, which had hit him squarely in the forehead, punching through into his cranial matter.

    "Sod it!" , cried Skullmuncha before falling over dead, to the dismay of the all the nearby orks.

    A few minute later , troops from horseback, threw grappling hooks into the front of the orkish defences , and the other end was attached to a team of horses , who dragged the poorly constructed defences apart , before the rest of the talabecland army charged in , to engage the last of the orkish defenders in fierce hand to hand combat.



    Thirty minutes later, the battle was over , and the orks had been eliminated from there defences, hacked to pieces by the sword, of punctured from the spear. Helmut swung his horse around and observed the city of Mordheim nearby on the river, and the smells from the orkish controlled city wafted over the troops , causing not a few to retch out there breakfast, into various positions around the orkish defences. Count Helmut was unimpressed and told those that had thrown up , to make this fortification, worthy of troops of the empire , and hold the position, remarking that they may want to start with washing away, their own vomit , from there new garrison position.



    The army of Talabecland headed northwards to siege the city ahead of them, troops departing, grinned at the troops who were to remain , as the army-group moved to relieve the City of Mordheim , from its orkish overlords . His scribe rode, behind him , rapidly writing brief messages to the nearby leaders of the empire , to sent reinforcements if they could , so that Mordheim , could be returned to its true owners, the League of Ostermark.

    In the colder lands to the north , the lands of Ostland were under the threat of Chaos and to combat that threat , Talabecland had sent forth its own Arch-Lectors and priests to combat the message of Chaos . One such Arch-lector had moved northwards deep into northern Ostland , and others had just reached there southern shores , as the first reinforcements of the priests of Sigmar , were determined to send the powers of chaos , a new and truer message.

    Count Wolfram Hertwig, Chancellor of the League of Ostermark, Prince of Bechafen , saw his remaining army sneak around the town of Borkum , keeping noise to a minimum , the first instance the orks had, that humans were nearby was when a massive arrowstorm hit the settlement from all sides , downing many of the greenskin warriors who were taken unaware . The orkish garrison of Borkum , was light , in just a tribe of forest orks archers , who took cover, whilst the Ostermarker's pushed there rams forward swifty breaking though the outer defences and swaming into the town.

    The population of the town long , under the oppressive rule of the orks , likewise sallied out from there houses,with various handmade weapons and utensils. Men and Women of Borkum attacked the orks not giving them time , to form a defensive position , and many a ork was felled with pitchfork , cleaver or even the odd frying pan welded by the fierce ostermark'n women and the streets ran with green blood as the forest orks were exterminated at little cost , of a few civilians and soldiers who lay dead , after there own territory had been recaptured. Despite the recent victory , Count Wolfram's troops remained a little despondent saying such thing "Ours for now , but what lies around the corner , I wonder?" and "Karma has a way of biting you on the arse, mark my words!" , but the Count Elect was little worried by such words , knowing that the peoples of his lands , were always a little despondent on the surface, but secretly they delighted at the good news , of the counterattack of mankind against the foul pestilence of the east.





    After the victory , the count , allowed the men , some small limited celebrations , and festivities in the town , although he told his officers to watch over them carefully, lest his men get too drunk in more than there victory. Looking at the Map of Ostermark , he saw his own men had now captured Borkum , and he knew that Talabecland was both sieging Mordheim and pushing eastwards toward Kiel , and that the orks that had invaded Stirland had been repelled , but his agents reported a significant ork warband grouped to the east of Heffengen , which looked to be the last remaining threat, the orks could muster at this time. Such a force with its own artillery, would have to be neutralised at earliest opportunity , if he was to make the push ever eastwards to regain his rightful territory.

    The armies of Stirland marched to war. Still flush from their victory at Drakenhof field, Lord Dietrich de Bartige led a small force to crush the remaining Vampire counts still lurking in the countryside, while Count Theodric drove east, pressing the bridge on the Stir River, in support of the Talabeclander siege of Mordheim.

    Another army was sent to aid in the siege but, before it could arrive, disaster struck. The League of Ostermark had also marched to reclaim their old homeland, but on the bridge leading to the city of Mordheim their wagon train became bogged down. A donkey broke it's leg in the center of the bridge and all traffic to and fro was stopped. When the Stirland general shot the beast to clear the way, a scuffle broke out between the two allies. While Talabecland besieged the city alone, both Ostermark and Stirland were stuck on the bridge, hoping disaster would not strike...

    Meanwhile in Averland...

    A great Orc host had finally crushed the last remaining forces of the Border Princes, occupied Munzig, and taken Blackfire Pass. It seemed that Averland, the very heartland of the Empire, would be the next to fall. Unwilling to accept battle on the Enemy's terms, Count Marius Leitdorf chose to take the initiative. In a panicked rush he had cobbled together two and a half great armies, made up of raw recruits, untested noblemen pressed into service, veterans of the Siege of Grenzdat, and expeditionary troops hastily brought home from Stirland. Gathering his marshals together, Count Marius decreed that he would not rest until the Orcs had been driven back from Blackfire Pass and the defenses re-manned. A simple operation, it was meant to take a single night. Little did he know that the bloodiest battle of the war was now on the horizon. The Five Days Battle was about to begin...

    The First Day

    At Dawn, on the ninth day of the Festival of Raynald, the forces of Stirland Struck the Orcs guarding Blackfire Pass. Most of the Orc army had withdrawn to Munzig, so a smaller raiding force was used. Infiltrating the passes around the captured strongholds, a small force of mortars and greatswords led by Lord Arnold the Arrogant managed to surprise the Orc defenders and put them to flight.

    The main Averland armies soon joined them at the pass, and prepared to make camp. It was then that a small band of renegades who had been present at the Massacre at Munzig approached the Count. They told him that the Orc forces present were of roughly equivalent to his own armies, and that they had arranged themselves into three forces. Two were led by experienced and deadly Orc generals: Bigsleepa and Slookilla. The third, however, was a motley band of inexperienced warboyz, barely half an army in truth, and they were drinking and fighting one-another in an unfortified camp. Count Marius knew it was a gamble, but he decided to trust the informants. That day his troops marched south, going through the night and leaving behind much of the artillery. The armies of Averland circled north, moving silently through the woods north of the unguarded Orc camp. By dawn, the armies were in position and ready to strike.





    The Second Day

    At dawn, while the Orcs were still groggy and disorganized, the forced of Averland attacked. Count Marius advanced his army in Tercio formation, like the Estalian armies he studied as a boy. Rank upon rank of halberds and rifles marched forwards, slaying any Orc in their path. From the north his son, Gunther, led a second army, while the inexperienced young Rupprecht Bernhard led a third. Together, they closed in on the orc camp from all sides, driving back the Greenskins. While the Orcs did possess some degree of low cunning, they were also not ones to shrink from a fight. Bigsleepa and Slookilla both rallied their Waaaghs and abandoned the walls of Munzig to fight the humies on open ground. Thus began the greatest slaughter ever recorded in the history of Averland. Rank upon rank of state troops and boyz were slaughtered, and rank upon rank moved up to take their places. It was battle without tactics or strategy, instead it was simply slaughter.

    Ultimately though, the Orcs were getting the worse of it. Penned in on two sides with the walls of Munzig to their backs, they were unable to maneuver as the handguns and mortars of Averland began to take their toll. By the end of the second day the battle was still indecisive, with the weaker of the orc armies put to flight, but the other two still in the field. Fighting went on into the night, but neither side could gain the upper hand. Neither man nor orc slept that night, as the sound of mortars and steel striking steel rang out for miles around.




    The Third Day

    Count Marius was beginning to worry about his troops exhaustion as dawn rose on the third day. Already his men were practically dead on their feet, but a great cry of jubilation rose up as the men looked out at the sight that greeted them. In the night the Orcs had seemed numberless, but by dawn it was clear that they were a spent force, with barely a third of their former strength left to them. The mortars and handguns of Averland had done their work! In a great rage, the two Orc generals, Slookilla and Bigsleepa led a charge on the Averland mortar batteries. Wading through countless regiments of State Troops, they finally reached the guns, crushing the barrels and disemboweling the gunners. One brave engineer named Edmund Schenkopp remained at his post. As Bigsleepa charged his cannon, Schenkopp fired a huge ball of solid iron directly into the Orc's head. Enraged at the death of his Waagh-buddy, Slookilla moved in to punish the insolent humy, but was interrupted by Count Marius himself who had finally arrived. The Count charged forward, riding down the Warboss, and then turned to finish the beast off. Before he could, two dozen Averlanders lept on the Orc, stabbing him with haberd, sword, and knife. After the battle, Slookilla was so cut to pieces that no-one could be sure which corpse belonged to him. With the death of their leaders, the Orcs withdrew to Munzig, to wait out the siege.




    The Fourth Day

    The Orcs were beaten, but the Averland army was utterly exhausted from three days of non-stop fighting. The few cannons that remained to them were out of ammunition, and the men could barely stand. The armies were settling in for a siege when the rest of the artillery train, which they had earlier left behind, finally arrived at the walls. Edmund Schenkopp, the Hero of the Battery, was assigned to lead the fresh troops as they pummeled the walls of Munzig. Edmund then led a fresh battalion of Halberds, formerly assigned to guard a War Alter of Sigmar, into the breach and drove the remaining orcs from the city.




    The Fifth Day

    Orcs are never ones to shrink from a fight. Unwilling to admit to being beaten by puny man-boyz, the few hundred remaining Orcs rallied south of Munzig for one last fight. For a time it looked like they may turn back and flee, but Lord Bernhard rode forward and taunted them, challenging them to a fight. They accepted. Charging the defenders, they were cut down by volley after volley of handgun and cannon fire.

    By the time the fighting was over, of the more than 7,000 orcs that had threatened the Empire, a mere 100 were able to escape back east, telling to tell their brethren takes of death and woe. The Five Days Battle was the bloodiest ever recorded in the History of Averland. Of the 5800 men under the Elector Count's banner who gave battle, over 2 thousand lay dead in the mud beneath the walls of Munzig. Still, it was a great victory nonetheless. The orcs in the south were driven back leaving the three armies around the Black Water as one of the last great bastions of Orc strength in the West. A week of feasting and celebration was ordered in Averheim, and throughout Count Marius' domains. Once again the Empire was saved!

    Meanwhile in the lands or Erengrad more chaos forces are pushing despite the first victories of the empire. Seems the tide of chaos armies are never ending. The undisturbed Tzeentch sorcerers finished their foul ritual and summoned a warp gate into the material world. An army of chaos demons marched through the gate, ready to lay waste to the lands of the humans. Dissappearance of Sigmar priest also increasing as the forces of chaos make their works unchecked.

    The Edicts of The Emperor



    1.
    As chaos and greenskin forces are threatening mankind itself, the Emperor commands that every elector in the Empire must send 3/4 their current army to fight our enemies, and must raise an additional stack with the money the Emperor will provide.


    2.
    The following nations within the Empire must send their armies to fight the Chaos:
    - The Grand Principality of Reikland
    - The Grand Duchies of Middenheim and Middenland
    - The Grand Principality of Ostland
    - The Grand Barony of Hochland
    The Grand Barony of Nordland

    The Emperor himself will help with his military and is the designated leader of the fight.


    3.
    The following nations within the Empire must send their armies to fight the Greenskins:

    - The Grand County of Wissenland
    - The Grand County of Averland
    - The Grand County of Stirland
    - The Grand Duchy of Talabecland
    - The League of Ostermark

    The Emperor will help with further financial aid, 20000 imperial gold shall be given to the designated leader, the Elector Count of Talabecland.



    4.
    From this day forward, it shall be written the book of laws in the Empire that when taking back lost settlements, they must be returned to their original owner. Furthermore, if an Elector Count asks, the settlement must not be sacked.


    The Laws are sacred.
    Disobeying them will have serious consequences.
