Default More Artillery Pieces in a Unit

This is for all you members that want more artillery pieces in a single unit but don't know how to. Until the unpacker comes, you'll have to use the mod switch to make changes to the export_descr_unit.txt file.

    1) Access your export_descr_unit.txt and search for the desired artillery unit.

    2) Once your there, look for soldier and change the second number to the right to the desired amount of artillery pieces you want.

    - example:
    Code:
    type NE Trebuchet
    dictionary NE_Trebuchet ; Trebuchet
    category siege
    class            missile
    voice_type Heavy
    banner faction main_missile
    banner holy crusade
    soldier NE_Trebuchet_Crew, 16, 6, 1
    engine trebuchet
    attributes sea_faring, hardy, can_withdraw, artillery
    formation 1.5, 1.5, 3, 3, 3, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 6, 3, no, 0, 0, melee, artillery_mechanical, piercing, knife, 25, 1.8
    ;stat_pri_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 55, 3, trebuchet, 285, 200, siege_missile, artillery_mechanical, blunt, none, 25, 1
    ;stat_sec_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_sec_attr ap, bp, area, launching
    stat_ter 12, 3, cow_carcass, 215, 3, siege_missile, artillery_mechanical, blunt, none, 25, 1
    ;stat_ter_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_ter_attr ap, bp, launching,
    stat_pri_armour 4, 4, 0, leather
    ;stat_armour_ex 4, 0, 0, 0, 4, 0, 0, leather
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 1
    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 9, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 430, 250, 90, 70, 430, 4, 100
    armour_ug_levels 1
    armour_ug_models NE_Trebuchet_Crew
ownership england, scotland, hre, france, denmark, portugal, spain, venice, milan, sicily, papal_states
    era 1 northern_european, southern_european
    ;unit_info 6, 0, 8
Looking at the example, I now have 6 Trebuchets in one unit.

    3) Save the file and your done.

godfrey I can see that you are an expert, I am creating a new artillery model similar than rocket launcher but I am a problem with the amunnition, I have done than its fire 96 rockets than 36 in vanilla, I edit the amunnition in descr_unit but it doesn't works. You know how I can edit?

i believe your asking of a way how it can shoot more rockets in one load? or how much ammunition the thing has in total?

Trajan good sir, shouldn't one also increase the recruit and upkeep costs commensurate with the increase in arty pieces?

That's up to each person. It's usually best anyways to be sure that the costs are nice and high but reasonable to prevent the AI from spamming artillery weapons.

This is useful cheers! I wonder, is there a way to make the spare crew spread out behind the cannon's etc. So they are not stood in a square in the centre, but more of a rectangle formation.
I changed the default number of ranks from 3 to 2 and nothing at all changed when I tried a custom battle...
Any idea's how this might work?

I am not sure what the proper entry is, but my guess is that you will have to replace "square" in the formation line as well.

You would need to use --io.file_first to see any changes made to export_descr_unit.txt if it is from one of the original campaigns.

Sounds easy...but I´m getting quite desperate...can any of You please tell me what am I doing wrong?

    1. "unpack_all.bat" located in tools/unpack
    2. "export_descr_unit.txt" -> one simple change of number in eastern trebuchet paragraph as shown
    above
    3. ctrl+s and close
    4. deleting "data\descr_geography_new.txt" and "data\descr_geography_new.db"
    5. creating a fresh, new and clean "whatever.bat" file in instalation directory with a single line in it: medieval2.exe --io.file_first
    6. starting game with "whatever.bat" file, everything runs smooth except the fact, that there are no changes at all

I tried to de-code unpacker´s readme, but it offers no way out of this. Deepest thanks for any response

If you are using mod "X" and want to change the artillery in that mod, you have of course to change the EDU of mod X, not that of the original game.

I tried it, I changed the artillery pieces from 2 to 6, but in custom battle only 3 pieces fire, the rest remains silent.
Anybody has any idea how to fix this?
