AE: Battle Balancing and BAI.
are pikemen actually using formation attack in AE?
Because I can imagine that both Pikemen and Hoplites would visually benefit from it

Why do royal swordbearers not have any armour?
Were they some sort of Hypaspists? And this was their "spec-ops" equipment?
Would be cool if I could read some of your source material on the ptolemies

The Machairophoroi/Sword Bearers weren't really a military unit. They were bodyguards and perhaps a police force. The 'royal' ones were part of the Ptolemaic personal guard. They also seemed to have been involved in the cultic activities in the temples.
Though the Ptolemaic faction roster is honestly kind of complicated. For instance, the only visual we have of a likely peltast troop and a number of other thureos type troops are pictured unarmored in the 2nd century. These were troops in garrison. But the Ptolemies also didn't really campaign much in that time, so its tough to say what state their military was in. Even before Raphia, there was a seemingly mad rush to arm the men by state to include lino's suggesting that even the military settlers didn't have much.
The number one source I used for the Ptolemies was Army and Society in Ptolemaic Egypt (which is really my personal preference - it's an actual historical work and very detailed as far as run downs of ancient militaries are concerned), then the two works Seleucid and Ptolemaic Reformed Armies 168-145 BC. Other random articles I find thrown in.
Yeah good sources!
Don't know where to post this since it's moved but Here is a awesome battle on the custom map i made.
