Step up brothers and sisters and testify how Roma Surrectum has changed your life or just any old stories of interest relating to how RS has effected you or those around you, good or bad. No essays or short stories of over a 1000 words. Save those for college or your therapist.

I'll start off with one. Yes, I have more than one, but they're much more disturbing than the one below.

--I was playing Roma Surrectum 2 many moons ago. It was about 2:30AM and my lady friend of six months, who I was living in sin with at the time, woke up and drowsily strolled over to my desk where I was waging serious RS total war I'm here to tell you.

Couldn't stop(playing the game). Just one more turn over and over, already nine hours straight non stop. I had to be up at 6AM. In my defense, I had been neglecting RS for months because of "her".

She watched what I was doing for about a minute, patted me on the shoulder and said in a sad, but sympathetic voice, "Oh babe, you got problems."
"Damn right," I replied. "My Macedonian homeland is under attack on three sides. The Romans, Greeks and Dacians are conspiring together. You bastards, just wait, payback is going to be a b------itch. She asked if I knew what time it was, I answered, "Payback time."

A few minutes later or was it 30 minutes, not sure, I noticed she had returned to bed sound asleep. Two weeks later we broke up. She jokingly said, "I can't compete with your hobby."

Trying to play mister cool, I replied, "Roma Surrectum total war is not a hobby my dear, it's a way of life." She rolled her eyes and said goodbye.

Yes, there is more to this story, but let's keep it short shall we.

    Oh boy!
I remember sooooo many late nights during the creation of RS2. They just seemed to go on and on and every time it looked like we were nearing completion, it turned out there was something else to consider or needed fixing. My wife and children had a rough deal for those 3 years and I'm still making it up to them!
My favourite moments were creating the beech and birch woodland that first time and of course the Roman legions and other final units - free Greeks, bastarnae, etc.
I learnt a lot of skills... 3D modelling, graphic design and spreadsheet functions... And I'm now using some of those in my job.

My goodness where do I start.

    Story 1:
I was playing as Rome during the Republic ERA. I was in the process of a full scale invasion of the Iberia homelands. My legions were getting destroyed as the Carthaginians were never retreating in their battles. Mind you I had about 10 full stacks fighting so this was the bulk of my entire standing army where after a few turns the Macedonians came knocking at my most eastern provinces and started to destroy everything. I had to split my army in half now fight a two front war. I LOST Iberia in the process but was able to keep my eastern provinces.

    Story 2:
This particular battle was one of the most bloody battles I ever had and will never forget it. Since I alter some of the settings of the game to actually make this possible ::COUGH COUGH:: It was 3 full stacks of experienced Gauls vs. a single Praetorian legion.(NO LAG at all) I was using them to escort the faction leader to the front lines to have a little campaign of his own. Since they were attacking me I got the best defense I could get and use the terrain to my advantage. I setup on a hill and let them come to me. I use hammer and anvil tactics to destroy the gauls. Half the legion was destroyed but they were able to protect the faction leader and WIN. It was about 11,000 kills I got. It was simply AMAZING...

Be proud tone, the RS mod has given great enjoyment to many fans and your labors for the Roma Surrectum mod bestow modders like you and dvk a kind of immortality. A mod that will outlive us all. Even when advanced PCs can no longer run RS2, they'll be a horde of 'cult like' fans owning old PCs just to be able to play the real "Rome 2".

Graphics advance, AI's eventually will be perfected, PC hardware and software will improve, more and more PC games will come, but who thinks we'll ever, at least in our life time, see another game/mod of the ancient period that captivates people to the point of addiction year after year, like RS2.

You can put RS2 away for a time, but when that itch for ancient conquest needs scratching, when the sword beckons and your mighty warhorse rears with fire in his eyes awaiting you to mount and ride forth, then by Hades, guess where you go, "Roma Surrectum 2."

Can I get an Amen people?

    I...can't.... hear.... you!

I will always have hope, but as R2 has shown and film clips such as seen in Exodus trailers confirm, it also takes a 'will' and a desire to try and experience/simulate actual battles and, things like, logistic elements. Most people who game, ie the market, however want quick and simple and instant action.

It's not just the technology that limits.......

RTW just happened to be the right platform that could be modded so much - for then a Team, such as I found, can have the will to produce something so brilliant. And to that - Amen
"RTW/RS VH campaign difficulty is bugged out (CA bug that never got fixed) and thus easier than Hard so play on that instead" - apple

RSII 2.5/2.6 Tester and pesky irritant to the Team. Mucho praise for long suffering dvk'.

Once the last few CD versions are gone and there's only the Steam one which cannot run RS2, then we will

Well, you could torrent the non-steam version of it and buy the steam one, owning it makes it okay to torrent it .

I may have given the impression that I hail great graphics as a vital component to game design. NO.

I believe we have enough proof over the years to show great graphics are more of a cover for bad game design and lack of playing depth. Good AI takes time and skill to implement. Requiring extensive play testing of the AI which adds months to a game's release.

Therefore, game companies, to get the game to market quickly, give you fancy graphics to distract from the poor AI/game design.
If CA took RS2, which they have the rights to do,(as I understand it) and just improved (assuming they're still capable) the AI where needed and improve ram memory use, they'd have a mega seller on their hands. Okay, I know, I'm dreaming now. But the thought does put a smile on my face.

my story: when i was a console gamer ,i always watched rome1 vids on youtube because of the program time commanders.(always liked the history of the roman empire and history in total)

but then i saw a video with rome1 mod called roma surrectum and i thought WTF is that for an amazing work,it looked like a new game and i thought is was one.
did some googling for rome2,but that was not around that time.it was a mod made by people who did it in their spare time(did not know that was even possible when i was console gamer)so thank you gods for the modding community

so 6/7years ago i bought me a cheap desktop to play rome1 and roma surrectum.and oh boy that changed everything, did not wan't to go to the discotheek anymore on the weekends(from drugs lover to RS2 lover),lost my girl because i played to mutch, maybe even lost some friends because of the same reason.but hey i had a good time
did try alot of other mods like eb,rtr,SPQR,hegemony but always retreated back to RS

still playing roma surrectum at least couple days in a month.i decided to let the ps4 slip and instead did buy me a good gaming desktop.so basicly thank you DVKand the RS team to convert me into PC gaming.

    Amen, tungri_centurio.

I was thinking;(stand back) if it were a sin to spend too much time playing Rome1 modded games(RS2 overwhelmingly), then I'm headed for hell with gasoline underwear.

I do have long dry spells where I can battle little, like now. You know, life can get in the way at times, demanding your attention. Oh, and the women are the worst. Talk about selfish and totally unsympathetic to your condition. You know what I mean? They expect you to spend most of your free time with them, but what can you do?

Talking to you younger fellas. If you find a woman who's a gamer or just understands your needs (RS2), then you have found your soul mate, never let her go. Even if she can't cook or rock you in the sack. Although, back in my younger days they only had to lay there, preferably not sleeping or at least not snoring. Come to think of it, I haven't changed much in that department.

Luckily, the gaming dry spells do come to an end and I more than make up for lack of gaming when the rainy seasons arrive. And look, I see dark clouds on the horizon. At least for a while, goodbye sleep and sex. Who needs those things anyway, right guys? Right? Yes, I hear ya, maybe not year round. (pusses)

Hopefully, I don't forget to eat, but what the hell, I need to lose a few or more pounds anyway. Yes, soon all will be well in the world.
