Update on the works, the same model that I used for the highland archers I also intend to use for the Irish dartmen (kerns).
The first two lods are complete and this is a good time for a screenie...
The darts are short javelins with fletchings and the secondary weapon is a hatchet wiht a variety of six.
I hope you approve...
where such a weapon ever been used, darts?there looks some wisdom in this as with the darts you can better hit the target, and with the famoes scots i forgot sean connery completed,he is one of mine greatest all time actor, and he is wearing a lot the kilt.
Both Scots and Irish models look great. Thank you for sharing them.
Yes, the weapon of choice for Gaelic light infantry from the 12th century and until the introduction of firearms was the dart and they were very proficient in the use of it.
Thank you for your kind words, though I am always sort of hoping for somewhat more "official" acknowledgement.
I have news:
I have reworked the shields for my 12th Century Foot Men-at-Arms adding more variety
and I have completed the English shields, also they all come as macemen as well as swordsmen.
The screenshots below are of the English.
You may download them from the original post and also view panoramic presentations of the shields and maces as soon as I finish updating it.
Hey, you wanted feedback buddy and here it is! Everything I've seen in this thread is second to none! The amount of variety you put into all your work is the kind of thing I try to strive towards in my own Rome 2 modding work as you've seen before. I will try to incorporate your latest new shield designs in my Rome 2 work. It very much ties into the era of Total War Medieval Kingdoms i.e 1200 AD. I would love to use the helmet assets as well, but you've put so much variety in every piece of the unit it's a little tricky to work it out! I can't wait to see your work for later medieval soldiers and those highland units too!
About the highlanders, so far I posted screenshots of the blue kilts (Scotland) and green ones (melee mercs) of their basic model (unarmoured).
The following are screenshots of rebel highland archers wearing some crude padding/leather for protection (the ug1 model).
The link for the download is in the first post of this thread.
I will post pics of the other units later...

Mailed Knights are good but there is something on the chest mail texture or mesh that bugs me, it looks like either they do a lot of bench press or have manboobs
maybe it can be fixed with a small change in the lighting of the mail so it appears less polygonal.
Knights don't have manboobs and they don't do bench presses. They work out by pushing their horses up.
Don't you recognise who's among them?
Take a better look...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
You can also see this guy in the faces presentation in the first post.
On a more serious note I did intend to make them look more muscular than the average troop, you can see that in their arms as well.
xD lol ok
Nope, no idea who's this
Still I do believe the chest looks weird even for a beefed up muscular knight, not so much when standing still but in the pics showing them in action its oddity stands out.
I know this would probably mess the uvmapping but the chest area could use a couple more of polygons then...and maybe 1 of the vertex bound to the arm bones so it gets some distortion when moving arms.
thanks they look great will install them in mine game
edit;i would rep you but i can not
Amamzing units, I always wanted to have accurate 11th and 12th century knights in some mod (something what CA failed to bring us). However, some colors seems to bright to my taste.
Paleologos i have downloaded the frankish knights but it seems the english textures for them are not in it,am i looking wrong?
if so wich texture is for the english?
thanks for great work
There was a description of the file's contents you seem to have missed. I'm reposting it here below:
" 01. A lod0 model for 12th century heavily mailed West European (Catholic Faction) swordsmen,
02. A lod0 model for 12th century heavily mailed West European (Catholic Faction) macemen,
03. Three sets of skins for figures, French, German and Red-&-Gold for the mercenaries and the English and four sets of skins fot the attachments (Red-&-Black for the mercs), plus normal maps (of course!).
04. Four corresponding sets of unit sprites.
05. Four corresponding sets of unit cards."
The English only have a shield's skin of their own, Red-&-Gold seems to suit them just as well as it suits the mercs.
I also intend to use Red-&-Gold for the Spanish factions but all factions will have shields of their own.
