    Hello

I recently did this and it worked out really well.

Here's the steps you should follow:

    1) Download Vercingetorix's pak extractor (xidx)

    2) Place the following files in your data/sounds folder:

    xidx.exe
    xidxShell.bat
    extract_sounds.bat
    pack_example_music_idx.bat

    3) Run extract_sounds.bat

    4) Replace the music in the extracted data/sounds/music folder (Copy and use the same names of the songs you're replacing, and make sure they are mp3's)

    5) Run pack_example_music_idx.bat

    6) You should now have 2 files called my_music. Rename these 'music' and then replace the originals in your sounds folder (remember to keep backups).

    Your music should now work

    Good luck.

does that method work with rome bi vanilla as well?

Or you can add your own music this simple way:

    1. create a folder in Data/Sounds called music, so it looks:
    Data/Sounds/music

    2. put the MP3s of your music there (make sure there are no spaces in the file names)

    3. find descr_sounds_music.txt in Data folder, back it up and put your new MP3 file names there (should be obvious where they go).

    4. delete events.dat and events.idx from Sounds folder.

There you go, your music should now play in the game.

This is a bit of a bump of a very old thread, but does anyone know how to get this working for vanillia Barbarian Invasion? The usual method of deleting events.dat and events.idx from your Sounds folder doesn't work for BI as everytime you attempt to use custom music the game will crash with a "Cannot load Sound Folder" warning.

I've tried numerous other ways to try and fix this, but yet while I can get custom music into mods and vanillia RTW, I cannot get it to work for vanillia BI. Anyone know a solution?

if you delete completely the events.dat file from BI it'll try and read the RTW one which is probably what is giving you the problem

instead of deleting it make yourself a completely empty 0kb text file with notepad and rename that to
    events.dat

put that empty folder in your BI/data/sounds instead of the real one.

I already did that, it didn't work. I even tried moving all the files within the vanillia RTW sounds directory to the one in BI, that didn't work either.

Does the desc_music.txt have to refer directly to the BI sound folder (as in in that text every file has data/sounds/music)? So for example, would I need to change every direction within the text to bi/data/sounds/music?

if you're putting new named stuff in, I think references should be

    folder BI/data/sounds/music

or for example for alex modfolder inside the alexander folder, it works on path
    folder alexander/mod_folder/data/sounds/music
e.g. it needs path from RTW folder level down...

old stuff that is in RTW anyway should still work as
    folder data/sounds/music

I finally fixed the issue. As it turns out somehow the desc_music.txt was causing the issue so I overwrote it with one from vanillia BI and re-did the list and it finally worked.

I appreciate the assistance, this little thing was driving me nuts.
