Thread: How to make citywall eligible for demolition?

Default How to make citywall eligible for demolition?

I don't like how I cannot demolish buildings like citywall, farm upgrades and palace. How do I mod the files to make these buildings eligible for demolition? I particularly like to demolish walls and farms when using scorched earth tactic against the AI.

i dont think its hardcoded to make new buildings indestructible just old original indestructible buildings destructible.

If the original walls/farms were indestructible, isn't it possible to make these buildings unbuildable and then recreate new ones that are not hardcoded?

I also think it is completely stupid that walls are indestructable. It was a common practice in the ancient times, to punish a conquered city by destroying its walls. That is how Spartans punished Athens after the Peloponesian War. And Alexander punished Thebes with the destruction of walls after he conquered the city.

However I have never played a RTW mod where the walls would be destroyable. They can only be damaged, but then evereyone rebuilds them in 1 turn, so it's not a big deal.

Well i would have thought that because things like walls appear on the campaign map when you build them that you wouldnt be able to demolish them without some wierd problems going on.

Ports also appear on the campaign map and they are destroyable.

well...you should not seek the logic behind this..there are some hardcoded building types that can not be destroyed one they are build,,,
core culture building, core goverment building, walls, farms, roads and mines...
it is like it is and it is not possible to change this without decompling the exe and change the source code which would be a copyright infringement...
so the best would be that you dont bother yourself with this further

Not just the walls, he razed most (if not all) of the city to the ground.

Yes, but in RTW he wouldn't be able to destroy not only walls, but also the governmental building. And roads

Besides, unless you're in the habit of giving conquered cities back to their owners (which I'm not), destroying walls only hurts you.

You can't imagine how disappointed Philip V was when he figured out RTW wouldn't let him destroy Sparta's core buildings in my current Macedonia campaign.

Some buildings cannot be destroyed because of game mechanics and how buildings are displayed on the battle map in a city. Walls, farms, and Palaces are all written into the settlement plans of the game as 'indestructible'. You can make buildings indestructible in EDB.txt by having 'hinterland_(whatever building)' as the header, but this is different than the settlement plan and files that dictate which buildings absolutely cannot be destroyed. Why 'farms' are included in this I don't know...it was just written that way.
So technically, this is hard coded in the sense that you'd have to do a lot of file editing and testing\experimenting to see if you could even succeed in making these buildings destructible. My guess is not.
