Gaeceitherne

Gaeceitherne are Irish light Infantry made up of freemen armed with a javelin and small handweapon. Relying on agility rather than armour these light skirmishers hurl their javelin at their foes, whilst keeping out of combat with more heavily armoured opponents. Many Gaeceitherne seek an escape from poverty by fighting as mercenaries.

Cliathairi

These professional soldiers are often employed by landholders as an affordable defense against brigands. When called upon by chieftans or kings during times of war, these soldiers are one of the few units in the Irish army trained in the effective use of the long spear.

Viking Mercenary
Spear - Light - Spear+Shields
Having been raided by the Vikings many times, the Irish have learned that often the best defence against Vikings are Vikings themselves. Viking Mercenaries are Viking raiders turned mercenary, that wield their favoured combination of spear and shield, and wearing armour varying in quality from lightly padding to heavy mail.

Ceitherne
Infantry - Light - Axe+Shields
Ceitherne, meaning "warband", make up the bulk of the infantry in Irish armies. Readily recruited from towns and villages, these Gaelic soliders work well when deployed in tandem with the heavier Galloglaigh. Their preferred equipment is most often whatever they can lay their hands on, typically an axe and shield, and for a fortunate few, padded armour.

Gaelic Warriors represent those of the nobility who prefer to fight on foot. Armoured in chainmail and wielding a sword and shield, these skilled warriors provide an irish general a unit with good attacking skill.

Tuamornaghta
Infantry - Heavy - Two handed axe
Tuamornaghta (Gallowglasses) are fierce warriors originally from the western seaboard of Scotland who fled to Ireland and found employment there. Originally paid in beef and later land for service to Ireland's Kings, these fierce warriors are formidable fighters armed with large two-handed axes and wearing light armour.

Arras Noble
Infantry - Heavy - Sword+Shields
These are the clan leaders and their kinsfolk from all over Ireland. Although their mail armour and helmets are better than the common folk can aspire to, their equipment is scarcely comparable to that of the nobility from the more prosperous lands of England. Nevertheless, their fighting spirit and vicious longswords mean that they command respect on the battlefield.

Arras Bodyguard
Infantry - Heavy - Sword+Shields
Arras are bodyguard of noble Gaelic heritage, and are afforded great respect in Irish society. As would be expected, these units arrive on the battlefield well trained and equally well equipped. Favouring the sword and shield, they will defend their general with their lives.

Marcshulaidh
Cavalry - Light - Javelin/Axe+Shields
These Irish freemen are prepared to work for the master who can pay them best. They show great horsemanship riding without stirrups or saddle and can throw javelins with deadly precision. While fast and agile, these light cavalry avoid close quarters fighting due to their lack of armour.
